I meant to watch it last night, but I completely forgot. I watched the five-part "micro series" during Toonami's Giant Robot Week a couple years ago, and predicted then it was a water-testing for a full series.

However, I didn't/don't have very high hopes for the new series, what with the way Toonami has gone downhill.

The concept of the mecha competition seems to have shifted from pure battles to racing with a combat element. I guess they decided to take the "Grand Prix" part more seriously.

I have a feeling we should hope this show succeeds... a precedent for a mass-appeal American-shifted anime will be highly advantageous for us I believe.

Maybe... We already have enough "American anime" if you ask me though. This show does look like it has potential, and I also enjoy Big O after giving it like 2 years to grow on me. But I simply can't stand shows like Teen Titans or Avatar the Air Bender. (I understand a lot of people do like these shows, including people I know. I hope I don't offend any of you.)

I don't mind Teen Titans so much, but Avatar is simply trying to hard to be faux-anime.

Teen Titans doesn't really claim to be actual anime, it just has a good deal of anime-ish styling.

I must confess I've never heard of Avatar the Air Bender.

Although I'm impressed that Toonami has enough clout to produce its own anime, I'm not happy to see even more so-called "American anime". An oxymoron, in my eyes.

Avatar is a lame (IMO) show on Nickelodeon that tries to copy Naruto`s style. I know one person that likes it, and he`s one of those kids who can`t admit that he is wrong.

This show is entertaining and boring at the same time? why is it boring? Because it isn`t KABANG KABOOM Save the World! Sometimes boring makes a show better.

For example, me and my friend were major Anti-Yu-Gi-Oh guys. We hated the whole Shaow Realm Concept and how you have to beat someone in a card duel to save the world. Just pull out a gun and shoot them...sheesh. The, Yu-Gi-Oh GX came out and me and my friend were interested. Why? Because the Card-Dueling was used as game and not a way to save the world. Then the Shaow Realm was mentioned and the series just became dumb so we stopped watching it.

This show would overall get a 7/10 in my book. For an american-made anime-styled show about nothing but a sport, it is great. One thing, Liz sounds like Naruto.

Check the North American cast list at ANN and see who does Liz then click on
the link to her filmography, you never know.
What I think is great about this, other than they got Kari Walhgren,Wendee Lee,
Michelle Ruff AND Steven Jay Blum all together is the fact that the company that does the actual animation is the same as Ghost In The Shell so the animation
is naturally great!

And don't forget that they have Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) doing a voice in Immortal Grand Prix.

Well they had to be to focus on the main storyline which was of course what happens off the race track.I mean it be a bit boring if all they had were
mechas racing and no plot line.

Yeah but also they are a racing team too so i think they could spend a bit more time of racing. It is focused on the sport so it should at least not have a slim 5 min race.

Managed to catch most of tonight's...er, last night's episode.

Though I was initially somewhat annoyed by the switch from stratight-up battling to racing, I must admit the "Immortal Grand Prix" depicted in the show is a pretty interesting concept, much more original than plain ol' "robots beating/shooting the crap out of each other." Sort of NASCAR, the Tour de France and roller derby all rolled into one. And the animation is certainly very pretty.

Unfortunately, from what I could tell in this one episode, there's not much substance to back up the intriguing concept and eye candy. The race-winning tactic our hero basically amounted to "Stop sucking and actually manage to hit him." (Brilliant!) And that crisis with the team losing it's sponsorship could have been milked for another episode at least rather than neatly resolved in time for the end of this installment. Overall, IGPX seems to be about what I expected from a made-for-Toonami series: A show designed for a younger audience expected to have a short attention span and want to be entertained without the investment of a great deal of thought; in short, a show with the depth of a koi pond. The original "micro-series" from a few years ago had a hint of a slightly darker, more dramatic tone, but I guess this is a reflection of Toonami then versus Toonami now.

For all that, I'll still watch a couple more episodes for the attractive race scenes and hope for the off chance things will get more complex.

Honestly, I didn't think it was that great. The visuals were excellent and it had stellar voice acting, but....the characters are pretty uninteresting as is the theme. I'm not to fond of racing shows. The character interaction wasn't that good either, except between Liz and Takashi. The latest episode was just plain bad, in my opinion. It jumped straight into the race and had little character interaction. I found it very dull all the way through.

I think it is the best new series that CN has developed since Teen Titans.
Yesterday's was especially good as they had to face the possibility of disbanding
the team after their first victory.
The question is why CN bothers with crap like Boondocks and Robot Chicken when
it could develop more quality shows like IGPX is beyond me.
And yes I realize the other two are AS shows but still under the general rubic
of Cartoon Network.
More quality anime like IGPX and less crappy comedy like the above named would
IMO make CN a much improved network.

My only problem is, I with it stayed with the story that the first IGPX show had.

I bet you this show will be a hit in Japan, since they started showing it a sooner over there, then here.

I liked it. The music was pretty cool, and so was the voice-acting. We are recording! If only they took it slower, maybe, and developed out the dif. characters. We'll see. How many eps. is this s'pp'sed to have?

I consider it an American-Made cartoon with the same style of art that anime uses.

Good show, but if it just covers the Grand Prix then it aprently won`t be the longest show.

I think the main reason why Amy was so lonely was because she was this super
genius who graduated college at age 7.Normal people tend to be a bit nervous
around those with high IQs like Amy has,I mean it is a bit intimitating. The other
part of the storyline where Takashi and Cunningham meet and have their
talk/confrontation was interesting.Cunningham clearly was trying to psych him
out with all the good sportsmanship talk.
