It doesn't seem likely, as they started with the (edit) second book in the series. (my bad, keep getting the number three stuck in my head)

I agree, LWW should be read first, just like Lewis wrote them.

True Lewis wrote LWW first, and i agree that if you only read one that should be the one you read, but i read in a biography on him he preferred the chronological order (Jack: A Life of C.S. Lewis by George Sayer). I have read them multiple times and i think for a first timer they should definitely start with LWW, but after that i think chronological order (they are chronicles after all) is best. Anyway, there is another forum on this cite to discuss the books.

Also, they said in Newsweek Magazine that if LWW made $200 million they would immediately start with Prince Caspian. I'm really looking forward to the movie and i hope it does extremely well so they will make another one.

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

Oh, it'll top $200M alright...

Postby KojiroMusashi » Thu Nov 17, 2005 11:43 pm

I three can't wait for this movie. It'll rock the pants off anyone, regardless if they've read the book(s) or not. And as far as how much it'll make, well, it doesn't exactly have a strictly Christian fanbase, so it'll top $200M easy. Mayhaps not as much as the LOTR trilogy, but one never knows...
Also, I look forward to it because, as far as mainstream Christian entertainment goes, this is TOPS!

I'll share a brief story with you. A good friend of mine, who is Wiccan and enjoys philosophical and theological discussions with me, is a rabid fan of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles. She doesn't believe in God at all, or Satan, and engages me in these topics more out of a love of intelligent conversation, rather than a true curiosity of spiritual matters. But, she knows these books way better than I do, and confided in me that she was quite worried that they would ruin the series with this movie (polar bears instead of reindeer, and she wasn't really jazzed about Aslan being CG, but oh well).

This girl, and many other non-Christians, are worried Hollywood will ruin a CHRISTIAN book when they make it into a movie, and they adore the books...this is powerful stuff guys. Maybe we haven't really thought about it, but we should be praying extra hard that this movie impacts the lives of those who watch it, and prompt them to search for Christ.

And yes, to say again, I can't wait to see it!

Aslan had to be GC, you couldn't get a real lion to do all he needs to in the movie. Polar bears pull the White Witch's war chariot in battle, she has reindeers pulling her sleigh like in the book. People really should research a little before judging by commenting. Douglas Gresham has assured us that he has prayed feverently for the movie, that its a good movie and impacts people's lives. He's a very strong Christian.

Um, hope I wasn't misunderstood...

Postby KojiroMusashi » Fri Nov 18, 2005 1:58 am

Just to clarify, in case I wasn't really clear...I wasn't trying to insinuate that the movie is going to be bad, or inaccurate, or just a Hollywood clone. I was simply trying to emphasize how much everyone's looking forward to this movie, even those who would never set foot in a Christian bookstore. And I don't buy the "Aslan needs to be CG" bit....they can do many things with real animals now, and the few scenes where it wouldn't be possible to use one, they could use a CG like a stunt double. Just think it'd make for a much more realistic bit, that's all.

And I think it's all well and good for Douglas Gresham to pray for the movie, but I was kind of suggesting that it should maybe make its way onto OUR prayer lists, since prayer is powerful, and seems to become exponentially more so when many people pray. So, consider adding the success and impact of this rendition of Lewis' classic to your daily prayer list, and who knows what God might do!

(P.S. Did Jadis really have polar bears pulling her sled in battle, or is that an addition to the movie? Can't recall how the book went, it's been years since I read LWW...)

No, the battle is very very short in the book. In the movie her war CHARIOT is pulled by polar bears, not her sledge. And yes, I agree it would be a good idea to pray about it.

They could pretty much use the same kid actors for most of the series if the rest are filmed, just like they use the same kid actors for the Harry Potter series.
The only ones that they would need different actors for would be:
*The Horse And His Boy,the Pevensies are clearly in their early 20s or late teens
here, that is WHEN they are shown as they barely have a couple cameos in the
book.
*The Magician's Nephew, preview focuses on Diggory and Polly.
*The Silver Chair and The Last Battle, focuses on Eustace and Jill.
I wonder if in The Last Battle they would film an actual train crash since C.S.Lewis
hints at the end that they're all brought to Narnia after there's a crash in OUR world.
Which means that they're pretty much dead in our world.
