Openings and Endings

Postby Myoti » Fri Nov 11, 2005 6:37 pm

Not sure if a thread exists on this or not, so...

Of any anime series, what are your personal favorite openings and endings (for those that have multiple ones).

For One Piece, I'd have to say the fifth one, "Kokoro no Chizu", is definetly the best in terms of both animation and music choice (I can't get enough of the song!). If you haven't heard it, you must! Now!

For endings, it's a tie between the fifth ("Yoake Mae") and eleventh ("A-Z").

Also, as I have recently begun watching Outlaw Star, I must say the opening for it great (at least the music is). The endings are alright, but kinda slow (for me).

So how 'bout you?

For openings, I would say Grip (Inuyasha) tied with Cloud Age Symphony (Last Exile).

Endings, I would say Shinjitsu no Uta (Inuyasha) tied with Over the Sky (Last Exile).

But if we are talking about insert songs, Akatuski no Kurama (Gundam SEED) is the best, out of all of them. :thumb:

"Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth, you will again bring me up." Psalm 71:20

There was one of these threads before, but its so far in the back that another would be fine to do.

Now this is going to take a bit on my list. I may not list all of the songs in one post.

Opening Songs:

Be My Angel- Angelic Layer

Y'Know- Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040

Catch You Catch Me 1 OP, Tobira wo Akete 2 OP and PURACHINA 3 OP from Card Captor Sakura

Pure Blue- Chance Pop Session

Yakusoku wa Iranai- (aka: I Don't Need Promises) Vision of Escaflowne

READY STEADY GO ( 2 OP) and Rewrite (4 OP) -Full Metal Alchemist

Inner Universe- Ghost in the Shell: SAC

Rise- Ghost in the shell: SAC 2GIG

Itsuka Sori ni Todoite- Gundam 0080

10 Years after- 08th MS Team ( think this is the Opening song for it, I can't remember)

The Winner- Gundam 0083 (as much as I don't like Gundam 0083, the song Winner is a really cool opening song)

Rhythm Emotion- 2rd op for Gundam Wing

Tenshi no Yubikiri- His and Her Circumstances

Cloud Age Symphony- Last Exile

KOPPERIA no Hitsugi- Noir

Give a Reason- Slayers Next OP

Kiseki no Umi- Record of Lodoss War (TV Series)

Theme of R.O.D- Read or Die (OVA) (this songs has a James Bond feel to it)

Shell- Witch Hunter Robin

Stray- Wolf's Rain

Now my fingers hurt for typing all that!

I will do the ending themes later.

Shangri-La ... Opening of Soukyuu no Fafner
Separation .... Ending of Soukyuu no Fafner

When I start a new series, I usually watch all 25 or howevermany episodes in a couple of days... so normally after seeing an opening and ending 2 or 3 times I skip over it through the rest. Not these 2! I watched the opening and ending of Soukyuu no Fafner (Fafner in the Blue) all 25 times!! They are so marvelous all by themselves, but they also set the tone for the show beautifully. Toward the end of the series when things start getting bad (well, it's a rather heavy series... things have been going badly since about ep. 2!) the end theme is performed with fewer and fewer instruments and in a more sombre tone until it is slow and acapella for the last episode. Beautiful.

OPs:
-Fruits Basket OP...the english version wasn't so bad. :|
-Windy Tales OP, absolutely gorgeous :3
-Paradise Kiss OP, it's so modern :33

EDs:
- Haruka 8 ED, just something about that song.
-Paradise Kiss ED, just because it was done by a very very well known rock group and it's in English! <3
- Black Cat ED, not so much the song, but the animations were so adorable!

There's also this beautiful song called Ningyo Hime from Chobits, but I'm not sure whether if it's an ED or OP.

Well, I don't have very many to reference from, but I really fell in love with Witch Hunter Robin's opening. It's so moody and angsty, with the goth stylings and cool animation, and Shell is in pretty heavy rotation on my MP3 player.

Yeah, there are tons of good opening sequences in anime that I enjoy. In fact, most of them are designed to leave a good first impression on a series.

But if I had to choose, I would say the Last Exile OP and the Gatekeepers 21 OP. The music for the latter syncs quite well with the animation, making it enjoyable to watch. For an ending, I'd choose "Panic!" from Kodocha.

Best Openings: Tactics (Secret World), Loveless (Tsuki no Curse), Saiyuki (For Real), Gravitation (Super Drive), most of the Naruto openings.

Best Endings: Get Backers (Changin', 4th ending), Matantei Loki Ragnarok (Believe in Heaven), Kyou Kara Maou (Suteki na Shiawase)

That's the whole reason I downloaded a Paradise Kiss ep: just to watch the ending! I mean, c'mon Franz Ferdinand in anime?! That is just, great! Some things ARE best when globalized^^

Either than that comment, I have way WAY too many op/ends to list. (Yeah Wingzero22, I can prob even top your unfinished list :p) It's just that visuals + music = ^^ for me! I'm a visual person and adding music just adds a certain somethign to it.

Ichibyou no (1st Season) - Get Backers(dunno if you know this anime)
1/3 (j-pop) - Closing for Rurouni Kenshin (last season i think)
Driver's High (1st Season) - GTO(Great Teacher Onizuka) - also the last ending for the last episode. *nicE*
