The "Copperfield" Card Trick

Postby bigsleepj » Thu Nov 10, 2005 11:43 pm

I just received an e-mail with a PowerPoint Presentation file attached - and in it is a "card trick" with Illusionist David Copperfield's picture attached. It shows you six cards. You just have to think about which one you choose (no clicking), and it will eliminate your card without you doing anything. Everytime. For some reason. Different card is gone and always the one I'm thinking off.

Now I refuse to believe that it is magic - so how do they do it?

Ah, I feel so ashamed that I could miss something so absolutely obvious. :red:

I've seen this before. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/magic/trick3.html right?

every card is replaced by a "similar" one. none of the original cards remain. No trick, just a bit of a mind game

Hmmmm - mindgame - that's a good way of putting it. It's like a chain-letter, it seems.

Keep in mind that this thread was placed in General, so keep posts generally worthwhile.

Yes, I've seen this before. Interesting idea, but it typically doesn't work for long. The first time I did as it asked (looked at only one image), but the second time I looked at all the images.

I saw this a while back in a different incarnation and was conned utterly by it, so don't feel too bad. There are tricksy people out there that like to take advantage of us foo-els.

I managed to dupe that trick once but it made my internet crash, forcing me to restart my computer.

After several (frustrating) times of trying to fluke it, I dragged my mouse (with the left button held dowmn) all over the screen, causing it to lag. When it was finally finished "guessing" the card I chose was still there...but then my interent closed on me and I couldn't start it up.

Evil trick. :thumbsdow

You'll have to become more clever if you are going to take over the world.

That post says a great deal to both of you involved. I, at least, find it highly interesting.

I've showed that trick to people before, and they did it like 8+ times without being able to figure it out. I finally had to explain it to them. lol

I like those kinds of games/tricks.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you were going to talk about some of those card tricks David Blaine does. (I just realized Blane != Copperfield :p) like that one where he flips through a whole deck and predicts your card. That one is funny when the people around you can't figure it out, and they think if they all pick the card to themselves that it's sure to fail... But then they are surprised when they all pick the same card. LOL
