We will always have "escapism" as long as we have imaginations and free will. Without those, there would be no "escapism", and we would be no different than animals. God did not want us to be like animals, he created us in His image, so we will never have to worry about that. Our soul is our consciousness, free will, and imagination.

While TV and video games do not destroy one's imagination, I would say that reading involves one's imagination more than the other two. Because the first two are audio-visual, there is one standard way of viewing it. While reading, one must conceptualize scenes according to the information given and everyone does not see these scenes in the same way (some even disregard the description and make up their own). Perhaps this is why people always say the book was better: they nuance their mental picture of a story according to their preferences.

Without imagination, I would be a rather melancholy human being.

Well, what I am talking about is not in the context of an obsessive fixation. It's whatever goes into a "crush," such as safely admiring from a distance. Things like devoting yourself to writing fan-fiction or fanart of the character, for example.

Those happen. They don't concern me in others, so unless it is worsening your life I wouldn't recommend worrying about it.

I definitely agree with you on this point (though at times the book really is better).
