What are your top animes?

Postby Kura Ookami » Tue Nov 01, 2005 6:33 am

What are your top ten animes or top five if you cant think of ten. I'm curious about whether there's any animes that most people here like. If you want add a little description of the animes. That is all. ^_^

I'm in no condition to be writing summaries, but here are the ten that I can think of:

Rurouni Kenshin above everything, You're Under Arrest, Texhnolyze, Samurai 7, Cowboy Bebop, Chobits, GetBackers, Vandread (yeah, despite what people said in the other thread), Gundam Wing, MS Zeta Gundam

I like anime with great character development. I tend to forgive problems with story and animation, if the anime manages to have characters I get to really like. Second major criteria is a good story. Then, as you could see, I have quite a thing for sci-fi. There are lots more that I liked, but those are the ones I liked the best.

Now, I do grant that things like Naruto and YuYu Hakusho and Inuyasha do have great characters and an okay story. But tournament type anime and monsters and the undead don't fare well with me. I also like watching romantic comedies and slice-of-life shows.

3. Fullmetal Alchemists
4.Fruits Basket.
5. Azumanga Daioh.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Full Metal Alchemist, InuYasha, sCRYed, Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing.

I feel like I'm forgetting one, but its escaping me at the moment. They're not in any particular order, I kind of like them equally, but I do love some a little more than others.

1. Robotech The Macross Saga. It's been my favorite anime since I first saw it and it still is. Despite its dated animation, as stated above, I also look for likeable characters in anime and this is where the series is flawless.

2.Martian Successor Nadesico. As with Robotech, it has a cast of likeable characters. It's also one of the few anime that really make me laugh. With its cool mecha and slick oldschool references and spoofs, it's hard not to like something about this series, especially if you're a mecha fan.

3. G Gundam. It may be corny, but it's still really fun to watch. It has likeable characters and plenty of giant robot action. Fun show.

Well, these are the ones that really come to mind at the moment.

I forget to mention Macross 2, the movie. Its storyline isn't all that deep, and while it may not be as good as the original series, but I still like it.
Synopsis: 80 years have since the events in the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross. up until now, U.N. Spacey has had little difficulty repelling renegade Zentreadi attacks by use of the minmay defense System, however, when a new enemy shows up, with its own music to control the zentreadi, the Earth is once again in peril. Filled with killer robot fights and hot anime girls. :thumb:

A few of my other favorites:
*Geneshaft:In the 22nd century people are genetically engineered to
fit a role within society.Mika Seido is a White,a genetic throw back
and because of this has a large brick on her shoulders. Now the fate of
the ship Bilkis and the whole of humanity rests on her skills in piloting the
experimental mecha called Shaft.

*Gatekeepers 21:It's a new century and the Invaders who threatened Earth during the original Gatekeepers have adopted a new tactic. Now any human
who exhibits total lack of human emotion is in danger of becoming a new
Invader and the only people standing in their way are what remains of
AEGIS especially two high school girls named Ayane and the ditzy Miu.

The Soultaker:Kyosuke Date wakes up to a nightmare after his mother
has stabbed him to death, only to discover that the real nightmare is
beginning as he searches for the truth behind his identity and for his
missing sister Runa with the aid of Shiro and the mutant nurse Komugi.

Ravemaster:50 years have passed since the Rave Stones were scattered now a new Ravemaster named Haru as arisen to collect all the Rave Stones
and prevent disaster.Accompaning him are the amnesiac Elie,a young
Silversmith named Musica and a strange looking dog named Plue.

Dragonball GT:After Emperor Pilaf accidentally wishes Goku to
chidl size again Goku,Pan and Trunks are sent on a mission to collect the
Black Star Dragonballs that have now scattered through the cosmos.
The problem is they have only a year to do so or else the Earth and eveyrone on it is doomed. :thumb:

Oh man, this is hard... I haven't seen as many as most people here. Let's see what I can think up...

1. Trigun
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Outlaw Star
4. FLCL
5. Noir

That's what I could think of anyway. I usually only get to watch anime series' on tv, but there are some exceptions. I've just gotten into fansubs, and I slowly collect DVD's, so my list is most likely to change sometime. But for now, that's it.
