I firmly believe everyone who hates Halloween probably got sick on too many candies and wants to ruin everyone else's fun.

Eh, though I celebrate Halloween, and aren't particularly fond of the ones who don't, I wouldn't go that far. For most, it's simply a matter of personal convictions, though I don't deny that there are SOME people like that. ;)

I'm one of the cynical bitter people who doesn't enjoy it. ^^ I do like the horor movies that are on, though.

hmmm....my choice isn't up there....
now...as with all Holidays....this one wasn't just made up by the greeting card companies or the candy companies as a capitolistic scheme. There is belief behind it.....

I personally do not think that it is evil, but I also respect the opinion of other Christians who think that it is. The tone of that comment is somwhat rude, especially since we know that there are probably people here on CAA who are against Halloween.

I don't think the trickertreaters and I hand out candy. However, the holiday is connected to something evil historically. And I don't think it's very nice to say people who don't like Holloween just got sick or something from to much candy. Everyone has the right to their beliefs. Personally since my aunt got out of witchcraft and told me somethings. Holloween doesn't feel as fun anymore to me. It makes me feel a bit uneasy.

I don't think it's evil. It's become a kids' day-- a day to dress up like your favorite character and go bug people for candy.

No, those who believe Halloween is a Satanic holiday are convicted. Some people might not be convicted, but I am.

Honestly, this thread is doomed.

I read in the paper yesterday that the Russian community in Spokane are highly
anti-Halloween they don't celebrate it so as a result the schools in the Spokane
District have to be cautious now when it comes to Halloween. So far they seem
to do it by dividing the classes between those who celebrate Halloween and for the others they have Harvest Time celebrations.
As far as it goes I always love to celebrate Halloween.Good excuse to dress crazy
and let your inner child out.
FYI:If you do any research Halloween is based on the old Celtic festival of Samhain
(I believe it's Samhain). But I don't know if all those rumors about the Druids
sacrificing people are true or not, personally I don't think they are.

Let's keep this light, folks -- the "Hallowe'en is satanic" business has been around the block time and time again. Otherwise, as HoS put it, this thread is doomed.

I just think it's a bad idea to create this thread at the same time the "what are you dressing up as" thread is active.

I am kinda on a double standard.

On one hand yes, it DID originate from an old celtic pagan tradition carried into America. The tradition was to wear some masks so dead spirits couldnt figure out who you were and haunt you and such.

Actually, Halloween is NOT a satanic holiday.... paganism does not equal satanism. It derived from an old pagan tradition Heck most real satanists don't even believen in satan, rather believe in living to your worldy pleasures. But you ask a wiccan "do you worship Satan" and they say "no". But we know that such things like Wicca and Satanism go against the Christian belief, and are devilish. However it is more of an indirect worship of Satan.

On the other hand, kids dress up (COSPLAY!!!!) get candy and have fun...

so the question is: Does this "halloween" still follow paganistic tradition well? Who knows. Not really...

then again Christmas and Easter had some pagan roots (with a Christian meaning). So why do we share presents with each other? The sharing of presents isn't a Christian thing....

Halloween is all in fun - compare the percent of kids who go out and get candy to the percent of creeps who kill cats and sacrifice them. The paganistic meaning just isn't there as much as it was during medieval times, and I don't see any reason why we have to immediately equate the day with something bad now.

And even though it WAS a paganistic holiday...well...so was Christmas and Easter. *shrugs*

Where I live, the little kids aren't allowed to dress up in their costumes in school, or have anything to do with Halloween in class because of one family that didn't want their kid around the stuff. They ruined it for all the others.
When I was their age, we had a parade and everything.

I think that Halloween is a kid's holiday, just a time for them to dress up and have fun. They aren't even thinking about the religious side of things really.

If we're going to say that Halloween is evil because of its pagan roots, we have to throw out Christmas too, since it was a wiccan holiday originally, if I'm not mistaken.

Overall, it is what you make it, IMHO. When I was 6, my parents went against the general grain of our church and went trick-or-treating as princesses. How is that satanic, I ask?
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I don't much care. Something that revolves around death so much can't be much good. Though it's pretty much lost it's pagan roots. Well, it's like a pagan holiday that the RCC put together out of other pagan holidays or something. Now matter how you think of it, it's still a pagan holiday. Celebrate Ramadan or something without the religious side of it. I dunno. Buy that logic it seems you could celebrate anything.

But then, I don't really give a hang because we don't celebrate it.

I think the reason Halloween gets the bad rep was it happens to fall on the day of the pagan Samhein. Problem is there are 365 days in a year and many different religious/occult bodies that have religious days observed so it seems likely that some of them will overlap. It doesn't mean Christians "stole" them as many anti-Christians assert. Neither does it mean that some Christians "secretly" celebrate evil rites because they do something that falls on the same day as a pagan holiday. That's my $.02 anyway

It depends. I used to go get candy and have good clean fun at my church on halloween. However, witchcraft is pretty common in my town, and there's a whole lot of demonic things that can happen around here. Also, there are those evil kids who egg houses around here... I do my best to defend the place with what I got.

I don't believe Halloween is a safe thing to celebrate. Its not that big here in Australia, but its still celebrated a bit. I don't have a problem with lollies and dressing up in costume, just the fact that its celebrating a pagan holiday, even if it is more commercial than demonic nowdays. But I still think it gives Satan more of a foothold. Some seemingly innocent things aren't all that innocent.

Oi. Careful what you wish for. A few years ago we had a group of kids that egged our back porch and kicked our fence in. I think it was because one of my friends threw a piece of styrophome at them and yelled...O.O...come to think of it...that very well may be why.

Anyway, the best part of halloween is the scary movies. haha. that's the only part I enjoy.
