What is Love?

Postby jessie88 » Sun Oct 23, 2005 8:33 pm

someone I know wrote this....

What is LOVE?

Is love sweet phrases & holding hands?
Is it staring into that special someone's eyes wishing the moment would never end?
Is it something that plays itself out in moments of passion?

Sure, these are things that we share with the person we "love", but is there more to love than this? What about when things aren't all moonlight & sweet phrases? What happens when the "newness" wears off....that's when the real love kicks in or you find out quickly that it was never really love to begin with.

So then...what is LOVE?

Love is picking up his clothes off the floor for the zillion-trillionth time (when the laundry basket is 4 ft away).

Love is waking up in the middle of the night to sooth a crying baby, so she can sleep....for a few minutes at least!

Love is saying you're sorry, without being prompted and really meaning it.

Love is holding her when she cries...even if she says she doesn't know why she's crying....but especially if you're the cause.

Love is remembering that he likes pumpkin pie, so you bake him one from scratch, every Thanksgiving...even though you hate pumpkin pie.

What is LOVE?

Love is seeing the best in her...even when she is behaving the worst.

Love is calling him at work just to let you know your thinking of him.

Love is still telling her how sexy she & how much she turns you on...even after 10...20...30 years (or maybe after she's gained 10...20...30 lbs).

Love is knowing that no matter how much he gets on your last nerve, you could never live without him.

Love is making the decision that walking out is not an option...
but that working it out is.

Love is praying for him when he least deserves it.

Love is asking the Father to help you see his/her point of view and to help you to be a gift to them.

What is LOVE?

Love is going with him to the doctor and hearing the words "I'm sorry...there's nothing else I can do" and feeling as though a part of you is dying too.

Love is helping him put on his socks because he can't do it alone anymore.

Love is holding his hand while he's being treated & believing that he will live and not die to proclaim the glory of the Lord...

Love is not an idle word...it's a word that requires action. Love requires work and a commitment...even when things aren't fun anymore.

Love is what makes you smile when you're trying so hard to be angry.

Love is what brings you hope that things will get better.

Love is what makes you look at that face...that now has a few lines & is framed by some gray hair...but still seeing the same sweet face that you first saw years before.

Love is a gift.

"And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE"

Regardless of where it came from, it was still very beautifull. Thank you for posting it. And God bless you.

I think love is when you care for somone unconditionally and want to be with them always...
it is when you want their own happiness over your own...

That thread covered a very smiliar idea. You might be interested in reading through it and seeing if you find anything interesting.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

That is a nice selection. At first I started reading it and I was like, "Oh no, this is going to be all sappy and about how love is a great feeling you get from a person," so I was glad to read on and see that wasn't the case. :P
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Love is being willing to go to the pharmacy at 11:00 p.m. to pick up tampons because your wife has the flu and it's getting to be that time of the month.

Well if you think about it I was trying to think of something that would be
the most embarrasing thing that a guy would ever do to show his love
for a woman and that was the one thing that I could think of. :angel:

As I said it was the most embarrasing thing I could come up with that a man would do to show he really loved a woman.Personally if it was me I would look to see if
there was a female worker on hand and have her look around for the product.
Then again I don't know what would be as equally embarrasing for a woman to do to show that she loved a man...any suggestions?

Go to a ballgame with her man, who happens to be a fanatic for the visiting team, painted face, big finger and all......and NOT hide underneath the bleachers.

There is a newspaper cartoon called "Love Is....."
It uses a little woman and man for different things about love. Even thou they appear a little naked they don't try to use them in a bad way.
Some I seen are Love Is ......
Helping a neighbor in trouble. (Shows a neighbor's house on fire and helping fight the fire.)
Not snoring during her TV shows.
When you catch the right man.

Love is caring more for someone else than yourself. Love is the two greatest commandments. Love God, love people.

When I think of loving God I think of my cat curling up in my lap and purring as she sleeps.I think that basically is what it means to love God,to just curl up in his heavenly lap and rest in his peace.

Love is coming outside when I'm talking on the phone to a friend who's breaking off a 10 year friendship and waiting for me to finish.
Love is coming up behind me and putting his arms around my shoulders as I talk to her and try not to cry.
Love is waiting patiently until the conversation is over and then walking back inside with me quietly.
Love is realizing that you really are friends as well as boyfriend and girlfriend and that on the days when the sparks fade and when you're scared and when things get on your nerves you'll both still be there.

Love is when they want what is best for you, even if it makes you angry at them, even when you cut them off because you don't want it, and they don't give in, and dont give up on you, and still love you from a distance.
Love is when they defend you against others regardless of what it costs them.
Love is deciding you take priority above everyone else except God and family.
Love is not letting you get away with mind games.
Love is challenging you when you feel spent and that you have no more to give and you have everyone else giving you easy answers and comfort, but deep down you know that you are capeable of more, and most everyone else is letting you get by with not much effort.
Love is challenging you to live honestly, by faith, and not fear.

Why are so many philosophical threads popping up for my inner philosopher?

I've always felt that the word "love" was meaningless. The true essence and synonym for that word is "sacrifice". Which is more true an emotional expression to what we feel?

I will "love" you forever!
I will "sacrifice" for you forever!

EDIT: By the way, I'm just blabbering about, so please don't mind me.
