Things You Find Funny/Ironic

Postby Debitt » Sun Oct 16, 2005 7:40 pm

What are some things y'all find odd or ironic?

Me, well, I was thinking today: If everyone's so concerned about internet privacy, then why do so many people use their real names (often their full or last names) as e-mail addresses?

(sorry if this is better in Goof-Off, I was having a hard time deciding)

Jumbo Shrimp

^^

Seriously though, rebel without a cause is a term that comes to mind. To rebel is to go against something you feel is unjust. So, if there is nothing you feel is unjust, how do you rebel? Don't get that.

I find it ironic that irony is misused so much.

For example:

starfire wrote:Jumbo Shrimp

That's not irony. That's an oxymoron.

(Don't mean to pick on you , starfire, just being pedantic.)

Another example:
termyt wrote:I find it ironic that irony is misused so much.

The misuse of irony is not ironic. It is, however, ironic that I misused irony in sighting that I dislike the misuse of irony.

Really violent films/anime that have a strong anti-violence message.

Sure, they're trying to show "the negative aspects", but it really seems kinda hypocritical. Maybe not showing the graphic parts would make more sense...?

Monkeys. Because we're 'supposed' to think monkeys are smart and like our relatives or something, but they throw poo and pick bugs off each other and then eat the bugs.

So monkeys are ironic. Um, sorta.
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

:lol: That's freakin' awesome.

Ironic: People make a big stink about being individuals, but at the end of the day the vast majority of them would rather conform than stand up and be different.

If you study physics, you find that the classic, "Superman catches Lois right before she hits the ground" routine would actually kill her due deceleration g-forces.

Also why do people spend 50k on overglorified trucks (Hummers, SUV's, etc) when they could buy a quicker, more agile, more fuel-efficient car (BMW, Corvette, Mercedes, etc.)?

Better yet, why do car companies complain that sports cars don't sell when they never advertise them?

Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs? Now THAT'S irony!

The words ironic, irony, and ironically are sometimes used of events and circumstances that might better be described as simply “coincidentalâ€

What I find funny and ironic. That many scientist or hindu scholars give more Credit to Christianity than 16 year old neo-darwinists and people of other religions who don't know too much of their faith

I find the darwin awards, and stupid videos funny. I find mimes funny. I find it funny that someone can say... "evolution is real and proven". When scientists havent even proven it.

ps to be continued when i think of more.

One of the things I find highly ironic is that most of my female friends at the
CAA are young enough to be my daugthers if I were married. :jump:
Then again it's a bit ironic that I just said that considering that I don't look
like I'm in my 40s. :angel:

I think it's interesting when some of the kids I know wear completely bizarre things and say "I do it because I don't care what people think of me." But the truth is, they wear it BECAUSE they care what people think. They want people to think they're weird, or they want people to be scared of them. I've always thought that was ironic.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

When I was in high school and through college I thought cartoons were just for
little kiddies and would never have watched an anime if you paid me $50.
Now that I am in my 40s I not only enjoy anime but would pay over $50 for
a DVD of one of my favorite titles.
Ironic,aint it?

I find it ironic that there are those who try to limit religious expression in the name of freedom.
(note to mods: Not trying to get a political debate going, just noting the irony of it)

Why is it called cargo when it goes by plane and shipping when it goes by car?

If 7-11 is open 24 hours, why do they have locks on the doors?

And why is it called 7-11? You'd think they'd be open from 7AM to 11PM.

I find it ironic that they won't let you teach "religion" in schools but they actively teach atheism witch according to the American government's definition of religions atheism is one.

I find it ironic when I'm walking through a mall and I see a kid dressed to the nines in punk, then they shout at random people, "What are YOU lookin' at?!" OK, if you dress to purposefully stick out, isn't it only natural that people are going to notice you? They dress up so that people will notice how different they are, then they get mad when people notice. Crazy kids.

EDIT: Oh yeah, here's another thing I've noticed. Have you ever seen girls who are dressed totally inappropriately get mad when they notice someone checking them out? I have. Like I seen girls get all huffy and be like, "Can you believe that guy?!" I just want to walk over and say, "It's like this honey. If you don't want people looking at your body, don't expose so much of it." It's just another thing I find a little ironic, and somewhat closely connected to the first thing I mentioned. If you dress so that people will notice you, people will notice you. Either don't get mad when it happens or quit doing it.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
