makeup? (guys and girls)

Talk about anything in here.

makeup? (guys and girls)

Postby ChristianKitsune » Mon Oct 17, 2005 11:18 am

OK! I have question...recently I have gotten into the whole "Makeup thing.." I USED to think the very idea was...ehhhhh.. stupid? but I dunno..now I kinda like wearing it...

so I have aquesiton for the girls..and one for the guys..

Girls: Do you wear makeup? (like it? hate it?) if so..how much? Do you ever think too much is too much?

Guys: Do you think that girls look better with makeup, or do you not care about the outside and more about the personality...

Juuuuust curious.. ^_^

I'm rather indifferent about myself, I just wear foundation as a cover up. Maybe if I'm really dressing up I'll put eyeshadow on. And maybe two or three times a year I'll wear mascara and eyeliner. And yes, too much can be too much.

I went for 'I love makeup!' Only because I do like wearing it, even though I don't wear very much all that often. Usualy it's only a bit of foundation, but I do like putting on lipstick, a bit of mascara etc. when I feel like looking nice. I think makeup is good, but it can be overdone - and if you're running late in the mornings (like me: I missed the bus today!) you can probably put the time to better use. :thumb:

EDIT: Hmm... you know, for some reason I just had a mental picture of my avatar wearing mascara and lipstick.... @_@

no doubt Creature! ^_^

I guess for me, wearing make up gives me more confidence... usually on days I don't wear makeup, I feel lousy...

I love makeup. I think it is fun, sometimes when I'm bored I just experiment with makeup as something. I think part of this has to do with the fact that I want to be a cosmotologist, that sort of thing just appeals to me. Doing hair too. But I DEFINITELY think that there is such a thing as too much, and even a little of the wrong colors looks like too much.

EDIT: I didn't see your last post before I posted this, CR. I just wanted to say I definitely agree. I think a girl should use makeup to make her more confident and so that she herself enjoys her beauty more. Even if it's just a little it sometimes makes us feel better about ourselves.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Hmm. I chose "indifferent", for while I enjoy buying makeup ("I love makeup!) I don't feel in any way obliged to wear it ("I wear it, but hate it"). If I ever go without it I don't spaz out or anything.

But I must have chapstick. Chap~stiiiiiick

I think that make-up can make girls appear prettier but I have more respect for girls who don't wear it often. I think that it can be good but if you get a dependance on it it's just as bad as being addicted to say ciggarets or something. It's good in moderation but if you feel like you NEED makeup to feel better than there's something wrong. And this doesn't only go for girls...Guys and hair gel can be just as bad or worse.

I dunno, i'm not really a makup-liking kind of guy, but i'm pretty much indifferent...personality matters most.

Oh you think hair gel is bad... you should have seen some of my last christmas's pics. i spiked my hair with some number 10 hair gel and dyed it red and green...i looked really freaky. (bt i'm not that weird normally... it was just my family anyway)

I like make-up. I wear foundation, powder, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara. Sometimes I skip the blush and eyeshadow and I make sure whatever I pick out goes along with the "natural" look. I'm also very picky about what kind I use.

I wear it when I go places but around my house I always look like a bum. It does make me a little more confident but there was a time when a guy ticked me off by saying that the only reason girls wear make-up is because they have low self-esteem. After that I went for four months without wearing any just so there was no misunderstanding about my self-image.
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

"I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise so that people will not love God for want of heaven or fear of hell, but because He is God."

I like to buy it, but I'm not good at putting it on so I usually buy it and it just sits in a box. Forever. o_o

In highschool I wore a lot of black eyeliner and bright eyeshadows like pink, blue, or red. That was during my punk rock phase XD Nowadays I very rarely wear a little eyeliner and maybe a neutral eyeshadow.

I HATE lipstick and lipliner. I can never put it on right and there are very few colors that look good on me. So I usually just put on a little plain lip gloss, if anything at all.

I also don't like foundation :\ Sometimes I use a little powder but...eh. Honestly I don't need either one.

Oh and one more thing: pretty boys are made even prettier with just a smidgeon of eyeliner. *o*

:lol: Indeed!

I myself am entirely indifferent, but leaning towards being anti make-up. I think it's perfectly fine if used in moderation (read: boys with eyeliner. XD) but so many girls at my school overuse it to the point of it being absolutely disgusting. And I don't like to wear make-up 'cause I have allergies and it makes me itch. >.<;

hah! I never wear makeup around the house... on weekends I am just blah.. I only wear make up when I got out to places..

I guess...my self-esteem could be considered a bit on the low side...not dangerously low..but I get self consious pretty easily... but at my school the guys are like, REALLY shallow... and the girls are dangerously thin... I am talking these girls wear like size 2 jeans...TINY! Soo..I suppose that with me, I feel like I HAVE to wear makeup...because I am not that tiny. But I use a little eyeliner, mascara and neutral eye shadow...

I like to draw designs with the eyeshadow...(kinda like the crazy guy from final Fantasy VIII BWHAHAH (though I don't do it often..)

Makeup can be over done. Very overdone. I prefer when women err on the side of not wearing it. Actually, being in the theater, I end up wearing more makeup than my girlfriend.

I voted "I love make up" because I do.

However, I wear it to look natural. I just enhance my natural features. For example, about a month ago, one of the guys who works next door to the shop I work at came in a few minutes before I officially opened, and he goes "?! You're putting on make-up? What's the special occassion?" I responded "Uh...I always wear make up" and he goes " O_O You do? Really? Maybe some eye shadow and lip gloss...but it looks so natural!" So yes, I love make up. I don't see anything wrong with it if you buy some good quality make up (read-non greasy and paint like...just something light) and only ehance/play up what you have. Covering is what I don't care for.

And I DO wear black eyeliner. I also get a lot of compliments on my eyes, so take that however way you please.

And yes, boys with eyeliner = :D

Hmm...a girl should start a poll on boys with eyeliner - yes or no.

Well...I voted love it, but that's not really true. I don't "love" makeup. But I like it. When I first started wearing it a few years ago, I wore WAY too much. Prolly looked like a clown. :lol:

I think it's good for a girl to have a few products she really likes and leave it at that. I always wear my favorite mascara and deep red lipstick, but leave it at that. Once in a while a little eyeshadow is okay. But the whole purpose of makeup is so that it compliments your natural looks, not recreates them. I think that's where it goes overboard.

I like make-up to a certain degree. I've started to put on light make-up on a regular basis eversince I started my internship. I reluctantly wear mascara and lipstick though. Smudging by these products is annoying.

The problem with make-up is most of us don't know how to wear make-up minimally yet effectively (including myself). I'm not bothered by guys who wear make-up if they know how to use it properly....I'm just troubled by horrible makeup jobs as a whole.

I think a lot of men "dislike" makeup, because the women they know don't where it right. A woman who's wearing makeup correctly will look like she's not wearing it at all. Her lashes will look darker without looking clumpy. Her cheeks will look more rosey without seemly clownish, and her eyes will pop against eye shadow, rather than the eyes shadow sticking our like a black eye.

There's a great difference between what, I think, many people associate with makeup (racoon style eye liner) and what make-up has the potential to be.

In the words of my 20 year old male cousin "I used to say that I thought girls should never wear make up. Then I figured out how many of the ones I thought were pretty already did. . ."
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I wear makeup on the weekends, and on my days off, but not to work. I only use minimal stuff though, to enhance my features. A little foundation, mascara, lipgloss and maybe some blush if I'm looking pale, that's it. I try to make it look like I'm not wearing makeup.

i choose i love make up, since i do. but i dont wear a lot. ever. to school i'll just wash my face, no foundation, and tinted lip balm (not gloss). or black/brown/dark blue eyeliner. no blush. no concealer. and half the time nothing at all. the only time ive painted up my lips and eyes at the same time was for a wedding and still i didnt wear much. the girls at my school who never show up w/ out lip liner, eyeliner, lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, etc. scare me greatly. sometimes i want to just peel it all off and see what they really look like under their mask. it just makes them look to me like they have no confidence in themselves and need to hide behind it. use make up to play up what you have and keep it natural-looking.

and no, i dont mind guys who wear a bit of eyeliner. as long as they wear it in a manly way (but that seems like a bit of an oxymoron doesn't it? manly eyeliner)

I care more about a girl's personality than them wearing makeup or not. That said some girl's look better with a hint of makeup, while others look much better with 'natural' looks.

Being at college, especially having lived in an all girls dorm, I've seen some garish makeup jobs. I'm all for makeup if you can use it right, even on guys *shrug.* But if your eyeliner, black eyeliner, is at least 1/8" wide or more for normal makeup, not a fashion style... please, an intervention is necessary. I'm still not convinced...

As everyone has already said, it can be overdone. I guess if it looks natural it is okay. I guess I'm more indifferent than anything.

I am a gal that does not like wearing make-up... the only time I have worn it was at my yr 12 formal. However, my mum has booked me in for a make-up lesson for my birthday. Since I might be getting a job soon, I'm not complaining. You probably need to wear a bit for work right?
