Famous Dinner Guests

Postby bigsleepj » Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:55 am

This is not a game, but just a poll of sorts. So don't try to get as many posts as possible.

Here's how it works: Name five (5) famous people (living or dead) who you'd like to have over for dinner at the same night.

This may include:
• Historical characters (Napoleon)
• Famous artists, authors, actors, directors (or whatever you see as arts)
• Interesting Oddballs ( like Emperor Norton I, self-proclaimed Emperor of the United States of America and Protector of Mexico )
Thus basically whomever you find interesting

May not include:
• Fictional Characters
• Other members of the CAA (I say this because it might cause some trouble amongst on-line friends if a friend is excluded - rather not put you into temptation)

And here's my choices.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton: Ah yes, why not? One of my favourite authors of all time. I have several questions regarding "The Man who was Thursday".

CS Lewis: I have great respect for him as an author and theologian and he'd enjoy Chesterton's company.

Neil Gaiman: Why not? I'd like to talk about his fiction and his comic-book writing and he'd certainly would want to talk to Chesterton and Lewis.

Johnny Cash: Why not? I'm a big fan. I'm stuck in Folsom prison and time keeps draggin' on...

Buster Keaton: Who is the greatest silent movie comedian of all time? Buster Keaton, that's who!!!! I'm a Great admirer! :)

Opera Winfrey: >^^< I really admire her and I'd think we could talk about lots of stuff! And of course my Mom would be there, 'cause she likes Opera too. >^.^<

>^^<;; Lol.. I know.. You people must think I'm wierd now..

Ellen: >^^< I like watching her show and she is soo funny and sweet.

>0_o< Just having dinner with two famous people would make me so nervous so I'm not gonna say anymore.
I live to love and love to live! >^.^<

(I'm assuming we can't include Jesus)

I would choose Paul, John, David, Timothy and a translator... cause I can't speak Greek or Hebrew  I would want to ask them questions about their life, and esp about their relationship with Jesus / God.

Assumption wrong. Some people might bark at it, but you could have included Him if you want to (a friend of mine once was in a church play that had Christ as a dinner guest come to think of it). So you could have - I doubt the Moderators would really complain.

Sir W.S. Gilbert- He is just my type of guy.
Sir Arthur Sullivan- You can't have Gilbert over without Sullivan.
Jimmy Stewart- Because he is awsome.
Richard Nixon- Why not?
Alexander the Great- I wouldn't feel good about my decision unless I invited at least one great conqueror.

I think I would spend the most time with Gilbert, because of his dry british humor. Alexander might cause some problems since I dont think that any of my other guests could speek greek. I would probably leave Jimmy Stewart in charge of making sure he didnt get out of hand. I am sure that Sullivan and Nixon would be capable of makeing conversation amung themselves, so they wouldnt cause any problems. I would serve several types of meat, just because that is my personal favourite type of food. I would also serve soup, because I know that Nixon felt very self concious about eating soup (he was affraid of getting it on his tie.) I would probably pop a Rodgers and Hammerstein into the VCR after dinner to see what Gilbert and Sulivan thought of it. After that we would all play a game of Taboo. I would make sure that Alexander the Great was not on my team.

C.S Lewis - He is an awesome author and great apologist too. He has also provided huge inspiration for my writings and imaginings

Herge - The creator of Tintin, need I say more? As a cartoonist he has really inspired me more than can be imagined

Frank Peretti - He is a fantastic author and has inspired me in my faith and my writings

Job - A great man of God. Would be interesting to talk to him about his faith journey

Richard Taylor - One of the founders of Weta Workshop. Would be awesome to talk to him about creature creation, prop making and other stuff surrounding the LotR movie

They had something like this in the first Book of Lists where they asked
various celebrities whom they would invite for dinner.
My list which will go over the five guest limit just because I feel
rebellious and also think limiting it to five makes it hard:

1.George Washington:We can talk genealogy and find out how we
connect. Also must ask about that silly cherry tree story.

2.Thomas Jefferson:The most brilliant man to be elected President.
Need to ask about that Sally Hemings rumor and also what he thinks
about the party he founded today.

3.Andrew Jackson:The only President to manage to keep the debt
down.

4.Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis:Seat them at the same table so as to be able to hear them debate the Civil War.

5.Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt:Wonder just how alike those two distant cousins were.Must keep Teddy from dominating the conversation though.

Nonpolitical guests:

1.The entire AMP from Silent Mobius:Remember to keep Yuki and Lum
Cheng separate or they'll tear each other's hair out.

2.Kagome and Inuyasha:She'll have the seat of honor.

3.Flay Allster,Lacus Clyne and Captain Murrue Ramius:Can we invite ghosts?

4.Millie,Meryl and Vash:Must remember the donuts and pudding!

5.Mark Twain:He can write the whole shebang up! :thumb:

Yeah, I saw something about him. He seemed like a really interesting character. Everyone liked him!
