Book about being smart as an asian

When you're homeschooled, I find that people place stereotypes on you as well. If I meet someone who asks me where I go to school, they assume one of two things.
1. That I'm a pasty kid who never has social interaction and believes that all democrats should be taken out onto the street and shot because of failure to worship the shrine of president Reagan. (^^)
2. That I dropped out of school and the whole "homeschooling" thing is just a coverup.
You would be surprised to learn how many people still hold this viewpoint.

So, I can understand why an Asian person would take offense to that book. When people make presuppositions of you, they tend to stick with them. Not get to know you as an individual. I know some of my friends who are Chinese get really annoyed when this happens. But I don't know if I would say the authors meant any harm by it. *shrugs*

Yeah, I was homeschooled too. But I didn't have to deal with so many negative stereotypes. (Maybe because of the area I live in or something. x3)

When I was 12-ish, and told some of my friends about being homeschooled, their usual response was, "I wish my mom would teach me at home, but she said she won't." xD

(I'm not saying that's a regular response, but I was fortunate to have it instead of "ew yer weird.")

Somebody might have said this already but just because you get good grades, that doesn't mean you're going to be successful. It doesn't necessarily mean you're exceptionally intelligent. All you have to do to get good grades is have a good memory and be willing to sit and do homework for hours every night.

Personally, I think stressing a kid to get perfect grades is kind of a waste. I mean, yeah, don't just let them flunk out, but don't take their childhood away from them either. And I've seen a lot of people burn out before they ever get to college. There are so many other good things in life besides being "perfect".

My oldest sister has been homeschooling her kids.

Actually one of the most laid back people I knew in Bible School was
Chinese,so much for that!

I too don't like the stereotype. =) I'm Asian and I'm as dumb as a brick. Whoever wrote that book needs a serious reality check

I think part of the stereotype has to do with the fact that if you read about the history of China to get ahead in government a person had to take a lot of rather
competitive exams.The more important the job the harder the exams became.
I believe it had to do with Confucius' attempt to reform the government.
