Coffee Drinkers

Talk about anything in here.

I don't think Coffee's gross, but since "somebody" phrased the only "No, I don't drink coffee"answer that way, that's the one I had to choose.

Make lots of coffee, like the smell, but can't stand the taste. Of course, I don't like Coke, (Diet or Regular), Seafood or Tomatos, But that's just proves how odd I am.

Give me a nice cup of Irish Breakfast tea, (regular's ok too). My brother & I even invented our own "Caffeine Cocktail", (Mountain Dew & Tropicana Orangide). Orange Mountain Dew inspired it, but ours tastes better.

I'll drink coffee, but usually only with a lot of flavor/milk/sugar added. I'm a serious sucker for iced milk coffee or a good frappucino. <3

I drink small amounts of coffee with large amounts of sweeteners (Chocolate syrup when I can get my hands on it.)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

OK. Looks like I've got a LOT to say about this one. But I have to go get another cup before I can respond... OK I'm back.

hitoriki wrote:I wake up naturally i.e. the shower.
Note to self: Indoor plumbing (invented after coffee) is now more "natural" than a bean which grows in the wild. Odd.

scribs wrote:I avoid coffee because I do not want to become addicted to it like so many others I know. These people are not capable of having a good morning if they have not had their coffee. They are dependant on it in a way that I do not envy. That is why I do not drink coffee.
To clarify a few points, coffee is one of the MOST addicting drugs on the planet. HOWEVER, after two days of not having coffee (despite how long you've made it a daily habit), your brain is no longer dependant. That's how fast you can unwire it. I don't worry too much about the addiction part of it.

alice wrote: In the newly developing american coffee shop culture this is refered to as a "why bother." As in, "Hey Fred, I need a grande Iced Why Bother mocha, stat!"

mave wrote:Although I responded "only specialty" coffee, I do drink regular coffee. I just happen to prefer stuff like all types of frappucinos, cappucinos, and mochas (assuming that's what you guys meant by 'specialty').
Likely an aribica vs robusta note, but I'll get to that later.

meboek wrote:I love the smell of coffee, but regular coffee is too bitter for me. I need something to augment the flavor a little.
Odd. That's WHY I like it. I like bitter coffee, but hate sour coffee. (Back to aribica vs robusta, I guess).

shooby wrote: Well, I *do* think coffee is filthy. It's a repulsive beverage.

Seriously, I can't stand the stuff.
This coming from the man who relied on "the stuff" to keep him awake the first year of residency?

FRWL wrote:I'll drink any coffee.
I'd augment that slightly and paraphrase it as Henry Ford would have. "I'll drink any coffee as long as it's black." See my exception below.

peguni wrote:Coffee is just not my cup of tea. I like the smell, but even the souped up sweet coffees are just not appealing. They just leave a taste I don't like. I like coffee beans though! XD
Funny... My Grandfather used to put a pinch of coffee between his lip and gum. He never was into chew (afaik) but he didn't like to drink coffee either. Not sure why this brings up that memory.

sailordove wrote:Give me a nice cup of Irish Breakfast tea, (regular's ok too). My brother & I even invented our own "Caffeine Cocktail", (Mountain Dew & Tropicana Orangide). Orange Mountain Dew inspired it, but ours tastes better.
Shooby can attest to this one. A friend of ours (cb) puts OJ in his COFFEE. It's one of the more nasty things I've ever seen, but he seems to love it.

Now then. I'm a fan of coffee in most any form. I prefer the higher quality of the aribica beans (more flavor per ounce, bitter rather than sour), but I'll take robusta if it's all that's available. I've touched on this three times to try and educate those of you who wonder why one brand of coffee can be more expensive than another. This is the primary reason (the other major reason being "marketing.")

The only coffee I'm not sure I'll ever try is Luwak coffee. This is coffee made from beans (aribica, I think) that are eaten by a Luwak (hence the name) and are, shall we say, fermented as they pass undigested through the animal. They are then gathered ("What do you do for a living, Bob?" "Shut up, Frank - it pays the bills.") and cleaned, after which they are roasted and ground like any other coffee. You can pay up to $300.00/lb for the stuff. Compare that to the 3 lb bag of aribica beans I got at costco for $10.50, or roughly 30 cents / lb (1/1000 the cost!).

I'd better stop. This thread is murder on my wrists.

I've got a spare 22 inch color monitor if you want to come get it. It's three ring componant of some sort, and syncs on red (I think), but it's yours if you can get it running. Oh yeah. I think it's 45 hz, too. I comes with an HP 9000 server, if you are interested (course, that's a 300....)

When my dad stopped drinking coffee, he had withdrawal symptoms for longer than that. He suffered a lot, and has never gone back to drinking coffee.

That's how my dad is. He loves Dunkin Donuts coffee, but I can't handle it. I really love to take in the smell of the strong stuff, but that's as close as I'll get.

Perhaps it depends on one's consumption pattern (i.e. frequency, amount per serving size) and how one's body exclusively reacts with components in coffee. I have friends who cannot function without coffee while here I am, skipping in and out at personal whim with no problems at all. <.<;;;

I should have explained myself better. XD I don't actually consume a coffee bean, I just like to smell them, as weird as that sounds. XD It's better than smelling just liquid coffee, IMO.

I think I'm one of the few people that chose the "Coffee? Gross!" option and meant it. I've tried it and don't like it. I can only stand the smell in small intervals.

Yeah, at a time period my dad drank tea in the morning instead of coffee and it was going really well until he got some Irish Cream and then well...he went back to drinking coffee with one and a half packets of Splenda and a small amount of Irish Cream in it. I usually make coffee for him and my mom too come to think of it just to be nice, the only time I myself drink any coffee is when I go to the mall, and that's cold not hot, somehow the texture of warm coffee doesn't usually sound to appealing to me. Okay, I know, I know, I'm picky with this sort of thing but I guess you like what you like. ^^

If you read up about the history of coffee it's ironically thanks to the Turks that we as a society are so addicted to it.They brought coffee with them
when they invaded Europe in the 16th century. :)

I like every type of coffee I've tried so far (I ain't touching anything coffee flavored in the cooler though), but I am not a fanatic. An occasional cappacino, some flavored coffees, but usually good old fashioned joe, with a good dose of sugar added.

Yes. It was so disgusting (I intentionally got the burned black sludge they make on 5 East) and so concentrated it was like drinking battery acid. I'm sure the stomach cramps were only to be expected.

Now that I don't take as much call, I can just swill gallons of Dr Pepper like normal people.
