The KILLER Anime Fever

Someone explain this to me, please.

Why is it, in the majority of anime, when a character gets sick or has a fever, that character is always on the brink of death? And why is it that the cure for said fever can't be found in the local pharmacy or in local plant life? Last time I checked, unless you had punemonia (forgive spelling) or something like that, a fever isn't really going to kill ya! Someone please shed some light on this for me!

A fever is very rarely the disease, merely the diagnosis. Many different diseases cause you to have a fever.

Shooraijin is a doctor, so he can probably explain better than me. ^^;;

Yeah, but still...whenever an anime character gets a fever, they're immediately thrown into bed and from then on out if they move an inch, they run the risk of dying a slow death!

As the bastion of medical science that I am, I have no explanation.

I did like the Ranma 1/2 episode where Happosai almost died of a mysterious fever, though. I would have liked it better if he DID die.

It's just so annoying! I mean, I've had a fever once or twice, and my mom still had me get up to take the garbage out and clean up my room!

I dunno, I guess fevers seem like the best way to get across that a character is REALLy sick..... cause you can make their face really red, lol

Only once or twice?? You've lived a lucky/blessed life. XD
And remember, the killer anime fever is also often the plot of at least one episode in shoujo anime/manga. You know, one of them gets sick and the other one nurses them back to health? Cause that happens aalll the time XD

Blessed definately. The only thing I really catch is colds and bugs, MAYBE the flu once but that's about it. I love eating fruits and veggies, so I guess my immune system is pretty darn strong! But I digress...

Inuyasha did a whole episode when the title character nursed Kagome back to health in her era. It was a nice episode, but a little too...overdramatic. I mean, COME ON! Give the girl an asprin, a glass of juice, let her rest for a bit and she's fine! What don't kill ya, makes ya stronger...

But I guess the rules in anime is "What don't kill ya won't get ratings."
