Youth Pastor Question

Postby Anison Twilight » Wed Oct 05, 2005 7:41 pm

So I have a question. I wasn't really sure where would have been best to put this, so I'll put it here. Here's the deal: My youth group has a service on Wednesdays called L.I.F.E. (Life Is For Everyone) and we always sing six or seven songs but it's not the problem(it helps to set the scene though). There are quite a few conflicts between the youth services and the main service. The biggest thing is that the "Praise band" (Which is a guy on electric, a guy on acoustic, another on bass, another on drums, and lastly another on mandolin) is too loud when they play during our music service and the main service hears us quite well. Our church isn't that big. We're kinda in the middle of building a new church because we're busting at the seems. ANYWAY...So we started in the fellowship hall which is about ten feet from the Auditorium. Eventually we moved outside. I thought we were moving outside to the small space a little ways from the main property. Turns out we're in the middle of the parking lot right on the other side of the Auditorium. So I'm pretty sure that my youth pastor took being outside as being able to be as loud as he wanted to, even though we really aren't any farther away from the auditorium. So my mother informed me that she heard the music portion of our service quite well from the back of the auditorium (we were outside in the parking lot in front of the church). I've already tried talking to my youth pastor about the volume but he just doesn't listen. What am I supposed to do?

You're obviously the kind of person who cares enough about others to want to help them with their problems. I commend you on that. But if you've already respectfully addressed your youth pastor on this issue, and he didn't listen, there's really not much else you can do, is there?

I would be hesitant about saying anything else, simply because I wouldn't want to be in the middle of any friction between the regular church and the youth pastor. But that's just me.

There's always prayer. It may not seem like a huge thing, but it could just be the enemy's way of trying to cause strife between members of the church. I would pray that your pastor will be more willing to compromise and that all will be resolved smoothly if you haven't already.

Starfire: Thanks for the commendation. I'll definately be praying about it.

Mr SmartyPants: My youth pastor wouldn't go for the "change the night we have L.I.F.E." thing. He'd probably see it as unecessary inconvenience.

hmmm... quite a predicament..

maybe relocate to another building (farther away from where the other service is)

perhaps somebodies home? or the backyard of a person with a large backyard? maybe?

Tell him about the problem reasonably, and know you did what you could if he is stubborn.
