Being Introverted...

Talk about anything in here.

I would say for good reason. Here on CAA I can actively search for discussions that interest me and (largely) ignore those that do not. Furthermore, while in real life you are limited to those within speaking range, over the internet you can find people from across the world who may have interesting thing sto say on a given subject.

I used to be a REAL wall flower. In me, it was a weakness. I avoided people because I felt awkward.

The odd thing was that everyone would laugh when I said that I was shy or intoverted, but I know that people in my family knew it. My dad, to an extent, thought I was some sort of hermit in denial.

I'm really fighting against that tendency now, and I think I am making progress.

That said, I'm not really sure if my natural inclination is to be introverted or if I became an introvert to protect myself from situations I thought might be uncomfortable or painful.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Glad to know that there are quite a few people here who share similar experiences. Though like what's already been mentioned, the internet is probably a haven for introverted people. :)

I wonder if we introverts are attracted to anime more than extroverts are.
And if so I wonder if it has to do with the fact that we live more in the inner
fantasy world than extroverts.

I wouldn't say so...I have a number of etroverted anime fan friends...But you might be right about there being more fans that are introverts. I don't really know.

Exactly.

I'm an INTP. INTPs comprise less than 2% of society. People just have never met anyone like me, statistically speaking, so I'm weird to them.

Forgot about this. I'm a INTJ with a Mastermind idealist. It's like less than 1% of society (and is the same trait shared by both Hannibals, the real one and the one from "Silence of the Lambs" O_O ).

I do that on purpose now (or "act" extremely unexcited about everything) since I now what the reaction will be.

I think you put it so well, Fail_safe. Too often people see introversion as being "anti-social", or "shyness". I don't believe it is either one. I believe both can spring out of being an introvert, but don't necessarily have to and don't go hand-in-hand with it. I believe it's biological in nature as well as learned.

I consider myself very much an introvert, and this has actually led to some problems with my small group, where I feel pressured by the extrovert (in my opinion) leaders who are constantly trying to organize social events and seem to take offense if I choose to leave events early.

Personally, I just get overwhelmed in large group social situations, where there is constant pressure to interact or engage in small talk. I actually enjoy going to crowded sporting events by myself, because I can let loose but not have to interact with anyone unless I choose to. I feel very pressured and uncomfortable at parties where the push is for constant, fast-paced social interaction, and often I don't feel that extroverts (or average people) understand this.

I like to do things by myself. That shouldn't be considered weird. Going to a movie, or a restaraunt, or hiking by myself. Yet I sometimes get the feeling that others think it is weird. We live in a society that says it values independence, yet it seems to contradict this by accepting those who conform to the latest rend, pop culture, or are adept at witty conversation and socialization. Maybe that's inaccurate, but sometimes I feel that way.

And as an introvert, I do consider myself self-focused, but not selfish. I am often a generous person, I just tend to be extremely self-aware, so it is much easier and more natural for me to interpret the world through my own perceptions and experiences rather than seeing it through interactions with, or in many cases perspectives of, others.

And I don't feel that introverts are necessarily shy. I see shyness as a difficulty interacting socially though one wants to, whereas I see introversion as simply not desiring as much social interaction. Of course, one *can* be both introverted and shy, but I don't feel automatically are.

Anime is more or less a form of escapism, something that introverts need to relax and reflect upon. Anyone can enjoy anime, but I suppose introverts tend to 'breath in' the fictional world more than extroverts (since outside interactions interest them more).

I sometimes do think people get the wrong impression of me as well. Not engaging in 'fluent' conversations or wanting to be home most of the time let them know that I am somehow hostile or uncommited to them. They usually don't know that I enjoy life at my own pace. What's being exposed in the mass media and ads could hint that society is fast-paced and outgoing, which might explain why being an introvert is considered weird.

Call me crazy, but an introvert like myself would find going to the store or the mall to be more exciting than what an extrovert would think. Probably because it's not often that we visit these places for motivation. Again, introverts use up energy when they are away from being by themselves.

Since God made each and every one of us unique, it's certain that we can't have one (introvert\extrovert) without the other.

Funny,I'm also an INTJ but with a Counselor Idealist.I'm the same as
Gandhi and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Though if they did anime characters I bet Lacus would also be a Counselor
Idealist type INTJ.
