"Senior Skip Day"

Postby Linksquest » Mon Oct 03, 2005 7:07 pm

I don't know about other schools, but at our school the Seniors usually come up with two random days of the year when they all decide that they are going to "take a day off" or skip school. The days are always supposed to be secret, but the teachers always find out about it anyway.

I, personally, think it is very stupid. Yes, seniors are getting a day off, but then they will have work to make up the next time they go back to school, and will be more stressed than before as a consequence. I am a Senior now and today was a senior skip day. I went to school... and many, many teachers were giving out tests that they said Seniors who weren't there today couldnt make them up.

I laughed at the seniors who skipped today. XD

How about you guys? Do you guys have "Senior Skip Days" at your schools? What is your take on it?

That's pretty stupid.
"Hey guys! Let's randomly skip school today!"
Pfft! Why bother? And if they think they're getting it tough in high school, wait till they get to college and see how they'll like skipping a day there :/

I would probably be the one who doesn't skip...just because I think class is more fun with only a few people in it, and you get to laugh at the people who missed it.

They wouldnt allow us to skip. My school implemented alot of rules when I was senior which restricted many senior functions that was previously allowed. I think the deal was (our principle was able to persuade the board to accept this; my principle rocked) that if we didnt have a senior skip day, we wouldnt have to pay for our prom and graduation in full. But if we did have one, we would of had to pay for both in full which would mean we wouldnt of had such a memorable prom and graduation. During graduation, I was standing on the stage (we were at a huge auditorim-theator complex) where bands such as Audio Adrenaline, Newsboys, Relient K, Ac/DC, Pink Floyd, Sherly Crow, and so many more played at.

However, I had my own senior skip day. I wen tto the doctors to discuss somehting with him and beforehand, I persuaded my mother to let me skip. I basically did nothing but I skipped nevertheless. The only time I have done that.

Yeah, it was sort of an annual function at my high school. Some of my senior classmates organized (in secret) a BBQ get-together for those willing to skip class that day. Though the administrators still enforced attendance rules, about 30% of the seniors were willing to sacrifice one day of learning.

Such a shame I missed out on good food! [/sarcasm]

Senior Ditch Day? Yeah, a few of my classmates tried to get me to do it, but the administration said that they couldn't so I didn't go with them.

This organised randomly-take-a-day-off-school-for-no-reason thing is a foreign concept to me. Oh, except maybe the Big Day Out (music festival). But people just unorganisedly took days off individually at my school.

At my high school, most of my classes were all seniors anyway, and senior ditch day it always the Monday after prom, so none of my teachers were expecting any of us to be there anyway. Still, I was doing more than well enough in my classes that a little make up work wouldn't have been a problem. I hated high school enough that any excuse to miss it made me happy (darn immune system never letting me get sick (well, almost never.)

In Australia its called 'wagging school.' I've never done it but many kids at my highschool had. Bit stupid really. All the work you have to catch up on. And then you'd probably get in trouble with the school and your parents. More trouble than its worth.

My grade was so faithful to studying that even on days when school prom was to be held everyone came to school. It was actually the teachers who were complaining that they weren't skipping school, because maybe they wanted a break too.

I dislike skipping school, I mean, school's so fun :P Now that I'm in uni I know I should have appreciated it more, but oh well, to each's memory.

in HS we had one to. I didnt go to it because i thought it was dumb just to skip school to just skip it. When you could, say , go to the park after school and get yout home work done too. I think it just a reason to be rebellious. All the teachers knew about it anyways. SO most AP students sayed at school... plus i had cheerleading practice right after school.

My idea of a senior day nowadays is starting off at Hardees for the senior discount on a cup of coffee. Then it's off to the grocery store where seniors get 10% off their bill.

Homeschoolers get to skip whenever they want...LOL

No really, if i got my work done early (seldom as i was a procrastinator), i could have a free day! Usually our family worked to gether and tried to get all their work done for fridays early and then we could do somthing cool like visit little shops in the german-style city nearby or go to a cool museum or somthing...

(I am a homeschooler. That said...)

(I wouldn't even if I was in school. Because I'm too darn moral.)

(I don't get off early even if I finish two days worth of work, because we just work to a certain time, rather than by days. Plus I'm behind. But no matter.)

(But today I got off early, because I'm studying for the PSAT and I took a practice test (the first one I had ever done), and got an above average score. So my sister and I watched Last Exile. ^_^)

we have a senior skip day. the teachers all find out about it and plan un-makeup-able tests on those days in EVERY class. first of all, i'd never get away with it with parents like mine, plus there'd be so much work to make up. it wouldn't be worth it.

Wow ... now I feel like a bad person. I ditched school every single senior skip day we had. Due to the "informal" nature of most of the classes, it wasn't a big deal not to show up on non-skip days. Heck, Lightbringer and I spent half of our senior year drawing on the balcony and hiding Shatterheart and Spades from the headmaster.

We had a senior skip day, but it was actually official, had planned activities, and was coordinated by the senior class with the blessing of the principal's office. Not really the same thing.

There were other skip days that weren't official, but I never went to them. (Not having a car then was one problem, but in a small school, your absence would be very obvious too -- I figured it was better if I just did my work.)

Our senior skip day for this semester is coming up pretty quickly and I do plan on participating. I have a pretty heavy course load but all my teachers are the types that don't care enough about "discipline" to teach anything with only two people in the class. I could safely bet $50 that none of them will try it. I'd only have to worry about Latin. (Internet course.)
However, even if my teachers were that uptight, I would still skip. Between spending another day in 1st period AP biology, making raps out of the notes for our next test and staying out all night with my friends and sleeping through school the next day...there's no contest, even if I do have to work twice as hard to make-up for it. I'm one of those students that you see in the bathroom with her cell phone, calling the school to sign herself out for a "family emergency" then getting in her car and halfway down the road, calling the school again to sign a friend out. Not to give anyone any ideas or anything...
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."
