It was interesting to say the least. At first I thought that it was Gorilla Grodd that
they were fighting.

After seeing this episode, I had to ask myself if they'd changed directors or something. It was the first Teen Titans episode that I think I've ever disliked, mesides for the whole MotherMayEye thing. I agree with what Blitzkrieg said. I would like to add my opinion of why the show bombed, though.
They kind of painted themselves into a corner with BeastBoy's character. I mean, they made him such a goofball, that it's hard to just do an about face and expect people to follow along. The only successful way they could have done an emotional story with his character would be to have him be insecure. And to play up the whole "my goofy attitude is just a mask" thing. A few fanfics did that and it worked surprisingly well.
The way they did it was, he's putting on a comedy routine for the Titans, and then all of a sudden he's Mr.Depressed.
What was ironic was that it was the most boring story as well as the most dire situation. The fate of the world being at stake and all.
I really hope they do a Raven or Robin story arc next. Those are always good!

I didn't see the episode, but I do know how the story goes in the comics, which the TV show has loosely followed. My comment is that this story arc is going to cover several episodes this season. It shouldn't be all that surprising that the first one failed to answer your questions.

To be honest, BB's origins are among the most confusing and contrived in all of comic-dom. There's no intrigue like in Raven's story last season. I'm interested to see how they handle it.

If anyone could give me a nice, spoilerize synopsis of the episode, it would be appreciated.

Hm, I saw this episode, but I was really paying more attention to studying. I'll provide a summary, though it may not be the most accurate. By the way, is it really Doom Patrol? I thought they were saying Dude Patrol the entire time, which is very, very different.
We get introduced to the D*** Patrol (sorry, I just had to do that) and find out that Beast Boy was once a member and that they fight a villain called The Brain. However, they got sorely defeated and all of them were incapacitated. The Titans get involved and rescue the Patrol just after Brain creates a battery that is not explained.

In the battle that ensues, the Titans and the Patrol end up trapped in the fortress, which threatens to self destruct. At the same time, Brain is getting away with the battery. Beast Boy is the only person not trapped, spends a long time trying to decide what to do, and in the end disobeys Mentos' (leader of the Patrol) orders and saves them instead of stopping the Brain.

At that point it is strongly hinted that Beast Boy couldn't make such a decision before, and then revealed that what the Brain created is something that can power the Quantum Generator, the most powerful weapon in the universe.
More or less.

Yes, it really is the Doom Patrol in the original comics as well. DC is running out of names at an alarming speed.*sigh* And, dude patrol would be very different indeed. More fitting I think!

It appeared from the ep.that while with the Doom Patrol BB was still learning his
powers.
I think it be interesting to see Cyborg's origin to see how he became a cyborg in the first place.
The only one that we don't really need to know too much about is Robin, other than
which one he is.
It would be nice though if they had a guess appearance by Bats.It be nice to see
Robin and Batman actually work together.

I doubt they'll get too much into Cyborg's origin. I don't know much, but i do know it's dark. And even more disturbing than Raven's.

"Dude Patrol" ...that's what would would happen if Beast Boy was in charge.

Anyway, it's not so much the fact that the episode didn't go into detail that bugs me, it's the lack of any real emotional content. They just plowed headlong into the act of rescuing the Doom Patrol without giving us much reason to be worried about them or to feel bad for Beast Boy. The most obvious way this could have been acomplished (to me, at least) would have been to provide at least a bit more info on BB's days in the Patrol, so I picked that to whine about.

Those bad feeling aside, I must confes that I do still like seening more characters from the comics showing up (and what I've heard about this season suggests that there are a lot more to come). I just hppe the writing gets better.

By the way, "Elasti-Girl?" I seem to recal hearing that this character resulted in Pixar haing to jump through a bunch of legal hoops while making The Incredibles.

All I know about Cyborg is that he was once a top athelete before he was
cybornized.
As I said before Robin is the only one that we really don't have to go into too
much of his background since die hard fans of Batman are familiar with all of
the Robins.

Good for you, Starfire!

Thanks for the summary, UC. Much appreciated.

That seems reasonable to me given the premise of the episode. I'll reserve judgment until after a few more related episodes come out.

I hadn't heard that, but I definitely believe it's true. All comic character names are copyrighted. At least they didn't have to change it.

I have an idea, thanks to having read too many comic books in my life, of where they are going with this. This cartoon continues to entertain and intrigue me.

Well it is true in the '70s that very few girls were into comics.I think the change
has to do with the fact that they have more women in the comic book industry and companies like DC and Marvel have developed stronger female characters other
than their traditional standbys like Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman.

I missed the first part of Homecoming; but caught the second just now. I say that I like what I see so far; and I believe this could end up being the best season of them all.

But... the end of the episode... the Titans are going to have to fight
EVERY SINGLE VILLIAN THEY'VE EVER FOUGHT BEFORE!
Right down to the really obscure ones like
The Master of Games and Mother Mae Eye
.

It's definately going to be... interesting.

(Oh yes. Very. Interesting.)

(Quite honestly, the first half wasn't all that special. At least, I wasn't impressed. Whatever the leader of the Doom Patrol's name is, I didn't like him. He was better at the end, though.)

You mean Mento? Yeah, I couldn't really get myself to like him even at the end.

Well, with the second half of the episode actually seen, I feel a little safer in criticizing the story. Even in part two, There just wasn't any emotional weight to the story. It's not just that they didn't give us facts about Beast Boy's Doom Patrol days, but there was no sence of real family or even friendship established in a convincing way. Without that, the events of the second half simply weren't interesting (nevermind that Mento just seems irrational)

But that last minute... WHOA. I'm still geeking out about it! They could have just shown that scene and I'd be sold on the rest of the season, just so I could see how this turns out.

Oh, and hearing Beast Boy's real name and seeing the Titans' reaction... PRICELESS.

is that even possible?

*sigh* season 5, season 5. well, at least they have an entire new season to redeem themselves from Homecoming, right? im sorry to say it after all my years of titan watching, but it's missing its old spirit. but when they called Beast Boy by his real name it gave me some hope.

I have to agree with you, Blitz. The story left me a little flat. I wonder how far they are going to take BB's relationship to the Doom Patrol.
Elasti-girl is Beast Boy's mother.

I usually forget about Tera because she was frozen into rock and they haven't mentioned her for a while. ^^;;;

I've seen some of the writters making cryptic hints that Terra might come back. That or they're just torturing us.

Raven IS the best, though.
