anime you were REALLY into

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Sun Oct 02, 2005 3:42 pm

I'll explain...

Well, nowadays when I watch anime they're still good and all, but for most I just can't really get into them! People die in them, they end, and that's it! It's like a "Yay it's over. That was a good show" sort of thing. What do I mean by that? Don't exactly mean you were OBSESSED with the show (well in most cases, I guess), but...

-you wouldn't want to miss an exiting episode!
-you stayed interested through pretty much the entire thing!
-you really enjoyed the characters and if somethign happened like one died, that would REALLY upset you (and in some cases, cry) :(
-if a secret was revealed that you never expected, you would be TOTALLY shocked!
-the ending would come too soon with you going "WHAT?! I WANT MORE! IT CAN'T END NOW!" *throws random object at TV/comp screen* sorta thing...

Here's only a couple I can think of that I liked a show that much:

-Sailor Moon
With the Nephrite thing, I cried when I was little v_v Also being a long series and connecting with the characters, various other scenes in the 5 seasons were pretty recognizable

-Escaflowne TV
Felt like I could REALLY get into this show as well. I was VERY shocked with the secrets being revealed in it, and when certain characters I grew to like eventually, met their fate :/

-Digimon Adventure and 02
Wow... something about these 2 seasons were just... I was TOTALLY into it because the characters were almost as if I knew them, sort of thing. A while back I watched a Bokura no Wargame AMV that recaped major scenes of both season, and it was just so touching! Found another one to the song on the AMV site but... it wasn't NEARLY as good enough! This show was just... something else. Even though it was the dub that I watched it all the way through with! But with it ending, soon made fanfics, fanart, bought figurines and yeah... great!

-Pokemon and Pokemon the 1st Movie
SO into this show when it was out! Sung the theme song (did that to Sailor Moon too earlier too of course^^) and just couldn't wait to see what new adventures Ash would have! Also back in the day when the dub first came out I, I could really feel for that first movie. Characters in a show that I grew to love and the one scene with Mew and Mewtwo fighting... yeah... :/ Of course over time I DID lose interest in the show so it's not like I've seen every ep to-date :/

-Elfen Lied (kinda)
The whole plot of the show and everythign got me wrapped up in it... yeah there was extreme violence and it made it shocking... still didn't need all that fanservice to "lighten the mood though" -_-... but either than that it was one that I was really into because of the psychological storyline and everything.

...think out of all the anime I've seen (and even really enjoyed) these were the only ones I was REALLY into (if you understand my definition of that, of course).

Dragon Ball Z

Pokemon

Those two basically hit it off with me and anime. Therefore I was usually glued to the t.v. watching them.

Some others that I HAD to watch was Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo!, and Rurouni Kenshin (all on Toonami mind you). I am still into Kenshin and Tenchi. Gundam Wing is off and on...I prefer Evangelion when it comes to Mecha. I am starting to watch the uncut DBZ just for fun. Pokemon....eh...I'll pass.

Gundam Wing and Fushigi Yuugi.

Gundam Wing was interesting, but it really wore itself out after I watched the series through in its entirity 2 or 3 times. >_> And the fandom is...ahem, not terribly intelligent.

Fushigi Yuugi...it's good and it's hilarious, I'll admit, but I can't believe I was ever obsessed, because it's really not my type of series. XD; I really don't go for mushy shoujo love AT ALL. Yay for Tactics and its absence of cannon pairings!

Yeah, same, Sailor Moooon!!! XD I watched almost every episode aired in the US. It was great. I especially loved the Heart Crystal Catcher series thing. XD

But, homigosh, I was totally totally into Princess Tutu. Every episode made me happy and suspensful. Usually it's easy to read into what's going to happen next, but I seriously didn't know.

And right now, it's Haruka 8. I'm even watching the long long awaited episode 12 as I type. I could claw something with happiness right now. XDD

I can't say I was ever anywhere near as obsessed as the characteristics that have been described here, but there was a time when I was very into Dragonball Z. More or less I'd say I'm just a more balanced person now, less susceptible to fanticism on a given subject.

Silent Mobius:The entire Katsumi storyline, especially when she discovers her
Lucifer Hawk ancestry and later betrays the AMP.Plus Roy's death was a shocker.

Inuyasha Movie #1:Affections Touching Across Time:When Kagome is possessed
and is chasing Inuyasha to kill him even though they both know it's not her fault.

Digimon Tamers:What happens to Jeri.

Gundam Seed:Even knowing what happens to Flay I still am overly obsessed about
watching this show.

I've never been obsessed with an anime. Nope, not me.

*rolls eyes towards avvie*

I also use to obsess over Digimon (especially season 3), and I still like it, but I'm not as obsessive now.

Yes, very much so. My little bro got the second and third Pokemon movies the other day, and I watched most of both of them. It was the first time I had seen the third, but I liked seeing the second one again.

I wouldn't call it an obsession, but I was fairly enthusiastic about Escaflowne back when it was showing on TV. I believe the only other anime I had been exposed to at that point were Pokemon and Digimon, so Escaflowne was pretty amazing in comparison. Unfortunately, I only ever managed to see a few episodes when it was airing here in the U.S.

I sniffled during the last episode of Ranma 1/2, and I still can't watch the last OAV (because then it's -over-!).

It's like what Akito said in Nadesico about the last episode of Gekigangar.

Azumanga Daioh. It should have never ended! The stories of hillarity should have went on forever! But like in real life, highschool life ends quite quickly, and it makes one sad when the ending credits roll.

Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, and the various Tenchi incarnations were what originally got me into anime; thus at the time, I tried to keep up and follow them judiciously :-) Like someone previously mentioned, nostalgia-viewing is great fun :-) Watched Outlaw Star again about a month ago, and it was great! More recently, I shot through Full Metal Panic! like time didn't even exist. Good times, good times....

I obsessed over Pokemon for a few months, until Digimon came a long. I'm STILL obsessing over that :thumb: I was also very into Tenchi Muyo for a while.

Ah, the good old days of Toonami!

I spacifically recall loving Sailor Moon to death! i liked it so much, my mom would tell me I couldn't watch it as a punishment!! I tell you, obsessed, in the bad way.

Then cam DBZ. I still enjoy that on ocassion though.

Gundam Wing caught my attention right off. Can't say I was hooked by the first episode, but when Duo came into the picture and lightened up the mood I fell in love with the series. He wasn't my favorite, but he made me love what I already liked. It did get 'old' ... *looks around for die-hard GW fans who might flog her* after watching a few times through. But, after years of not seeing it, I'm kind of miss it...

Tenchi Muyo was my next big one. Boy, the fan service could get bad with that, but the dubbed version was no where near as bad as the original. I still liked it, and was absorbed by its difference from the animes I was used to.

Then, I was introduced to Adult Swim anime. I still love most of the ones they've shown/are showing.

Before all of these though, I must admit, Pokemon was what got me hooked on Anime to begin with. Many say its dumb, stupid, cheesy, etc., but without it, I wouldn't be here to discuss FMA, Inuyasha, etc. with the rest of you.

That was longer than necessary...

DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon... Yeah, you know. That stuff got me into anime, and I was absolutely obsessed with DBZ for the longest time... I wore t-shirts of it nearly every day, made a fansite for it, had posters and toys everywhere... Yeah, it was kinda sad. As of today, I don't find myself really obsessed with any anime in particular. If you're talking about being drawn into the characters and story, Grave of the Fireflies did that very well. My mind was totally wrapped up in the confusion that is called FLCL; and though I'm still early in the series, NGE sucked me in with its intricate characters and plot. I'm sure there's more stuff, but I can't think right now. My mind is falling asleep.

The series that I am obsessed with would have to be Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin. After learning that there were so many more untranslated IY comic books, I decided to learn Japanese and am currently twelve volumes ahead of what Viz has published. Though Viz has published more RK than I've read, I still prefer struggling through the original Japanese. I wonder if anyone else has done a similar thing.

As for a translated series, I'm always impatiently waiting for the next volume of Chronicles of the Cursed Sword. (You can tell that I'm one of those people who, after seeing a movie, say, "The book was better.")

*stares at my 4 orginal volumes of Sailor Moon manga* It's pretty easy if you know basic vocab, and can figure out what a "maboroshi no ginzuishou" is. The manga took the series to new heights (even if it was orginal) and now my SM phase has died down some since I've seen like EVERY anime ep of it and all the manga... onyl thing I haven't read is the 2 volumes Chibi-Moon side story manga. ....me thinks a Sailor V anime would be entertaining too^^ I was sooo into that manga!
