Nauto movies and legal stuff

First question: where exactly in the chronology of the tv show do the two Naruto movies fall? Just so I accidentally don't watch them early and spoil stuff :-)
Also, friend of mine was explaining to me that if an anime hasn't been licensed for sale in the US yet, then downloading it say via a bit torrent isn't illegal. I don't know if it's kosher or not to discuss this on the forum, but if it is, I'd like some insight on the matter! Thanks!

It's technically copyright violation regardless of licensing, because the U.S. and Japan are both party to international copyright agreements like the Berne Convention. The main argument after that is as to morality, which goes into a whole lot of other territory that I'm not going to cover. Basically, yes, it's technically illegal - or at least actionable - either way.

That said, I believe the first movie falls pretty late in the series, probably shortly after the Tsunade arc. I haven't seen the second, so I can't say for sure there, but I'd wager it'll be after the first.

The movies are (like most anime movies) separate from the series and really more like fanfiction with a large budget than anything else. However, from what I have heard the first movie definitely has to be placed after the Land of the Mists arc and before the Chuunin Exam. I do not have any information about the second movie.

The first movie is definitely after the chuunin exam, because of Sasuke.
It is definitely after the Tsunade arc because of Naruto.
It is not too much later than that, because of Sasuke again.

Ah, my previous post is seriously in error, as I had forgotten the Rasengan was in use (also the Chidori, I believe). Hence it is required that the story be after the Chuunin Exam. However, there is no appearance of the curse seal and Sasuke doesn't seem to really be at the stage following it.
