My Black Belt....

Postby ~Natsumi Lam~ » Sat Oct 01, 2005 2:25 am

WEll,

i have been doing martial arts since i was 3 years old... so for about 19 yrs.

The martial arts i do combines at least 10 different styles into one. [Shoalin Kungfu, 5-animal style kung fu, shorin-ryu, aikkido, volam , hunggar, grappling styles, ground fighting styles, weapons, and so on]. Formally known as Heiwado "way of peace" martial arts aka Karate-Fu. Created, operated and owned by the Harrel family. I am at blackbelt[past first degree] in this styles and knowledge of multiple styles, including biomechanics, self-defence, usefulness, other styles disabilities...... partly because i have been doing it all my life.

WELLLL, i have had to go from dojo to dojo since i was 11 because we did not have a formal dojo setup, so i had to always go back to white belt and work up again. FINALLY, i am gettin my official belt in march.... i have been avoiding it because i dont think a belt is important, i know what i know and i dont need a belt to show it.

BUT NOW... i have decided to get it so i can teach. I usually talk about the bad things that have happened recently to me... but here is some great news....

Just thought i let you guys in on a little of the positive side of my life.

Black belt...

Some see it as the end... my father tells me that getting BB is martial art's way of saying "you passed kindergarten."

Now, you can teach... and it is once that one starts to teach that they truly begin to learn. Never give up, continue in martial arts for the rest of your life. You can go very far... I'm sure of it.

My Son has been taking Karate from a believer who has incorporated Christian principles into the training. We have been very thankful for this and I think it has helped my son to grow, not only in physical discipline, but Spiritual as well. He will be testing for Black Belt in December or January and I pray he will incorporate this into his teaching as well.

My Sifu said that when he got his black belt, "[he] didn't know squat." Twenty five years after getting his black belt, "[he] only know[s] a little bit about squat." You can never rest on your laurels!
