They probably heard you were mad at them and are trying to earn forgiveness. ;)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I was recently in Best Buy, and saw that indeed they did change some of the discs themselves: My set of Abenobashi DVDs was purchased as 4 discs, and can now be purchased as a thinpack of 3 dvds, and I think Azumanga Daioh was 5 discs instead of 6. So in this case I guess they sought to get as much on the discs as possible in order to cut costs. Azumanga for $50 and Abenobashi for $40... I'd have been willing to lose extras to pay that price.

It's a matter of copyright issues. Since each movie was a seperate title probably with several different production companies involved, they can't combine titles onto a disc like they could with Abenobashi or Azumanga. In which case they may as well use the old discs in thinpak cases.

So the only reason they included the extras was because they couldn't legally create new DVDs without them?? >_<, that's annoying.

ADV: We aren't giving you the two commentarys and behind the scenes footage in the box because we're nice, but because we can't legally remove them and make new DVDs.

If only that was the case with some other series ^^. Has anyone here bought the Raxhephon thin-pak?? I saw it today in my college's bookstore, and it had 7 discs, which I think was the same number of DVDs that the single release had, so maybe they just repackaged the old DVDs for that series too.

Well, the on disc extras do take up space. They had to go to get more episodes on the discs for Azumanga and Abenobashi.

Constant complaints here are not going to change the situation. The best thing for you to do is email ADV list your complaints to them and let them know you will be boycotting their products until they change. Just spend your money on titles from other companies that you will be satisfied with and forget ADV products.

I heard that Noir, Full Metal Panic, and RahXephon's thinpaks are all the good way, with the original disc boxed. But I heard that every ADV thinpak from here on besides those will be the bad way, with only the eps and no extras.

For me that doesn't sound bad. I'll take the savings over the extras any day

I agree. I rarely (if ever) watch the extras on anime DVDs, so I'd rather save a few bucks than shell out extra cash for stuff I don't watch.

I thought the FMP box set was a normal box, not a thinpak. It looked pretty big to me.

I think they usually specify when they mean thinpack

I think whether no extras applies to me or not depends on what the extras were. In Azumanga's case, I definitely want the original DVDs since I want the mini movie. To me it's a part of the anime and therefore a must, however short a part it was. But if the extras for an anime are mostly just production sketches, etc., then in most cases I can just pass and take the cheaper thinpak.

Same for me. With some animes I probably wouldn't care about the extras, but with others (Azumanga, Angelic Layer, New Fist) I do care, I think ADV should either offer BOTH full box sets and bargain price thin-paks, so people can decide for themselves whether or not they want to get just the series or buy the more expensive box with the extras, or they should just do box sets with extras.
