Holloween?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Starfire1 » Tue Sep 20, 2005 6:10 pm

the most ive done for it was go to a church festival one year. ive never trick-or-treated or dressed up for holloween beyond wearing orange socks and painting my nails black. its neither a supported or super-against it holiday in my home, so im the girl who gives out candy to the many kids in my neighborhood, then eats whats leftover. this year i might do a little something, since they allow costumes to be worn at my school. im thinking sailor saturn, audrey hepburn or some random person with a cloak.

I have a metallic blue and silver Chinese dress that needs a little fitting and other improvements to be pretty darn good, so that's what I might dress up with. Or I could always just put on one of my suits and be a 'dead lawyer' again... *grimace* nah, it was just too boring when I did that last year. But we do have several costume shops in town that I could go check out too. hmmm...

Last year I went to a Halloween party, which is unusual for me. My brother and I both went as monks (we decided that we would be Dominican, though I think that only mattered to us. lol.).

Here is a picture of the costume as it is in the online store we bought them from.

This year I don't think I shall be partying. The day after, though, is All Saints Day which is a Catholic holiday and a Holy Day of Obligation, so I shall be going to church.

I don't think that celebrating halloween is wrong. In fact, the catholic church intentionally put a christian holiday on hallow's eve (original pagan holiday). So long as you don't egg peoples houses, perform satanic rituals, TP someones house, summon demons, or just causing havok, you are ok.

You know, teh actual "Easter" holiday is a pagan holiday as well. >.>

I love to dress up and trick or treat! I do it every year in a homemade costume. I think I'll stop in my last year of high school.

At that time it won't be "dressing up"... it'll be cosplay. XP

I'm not going to celebrate Halloween because its the most satanic holiday in the year, sure, I won't spoil anybody else's fun if they want to dress-up but I have never once in my entire life dressed up for Halloween. Mainly because:
1)My dad is even against costume dress-up for it even though obviously I wouldn't just wear it Halloween.
2)People who come to the door would think that I celebrate it to and I don't want to give off that theme because I am totally against the holiday.
3)I would want to go as an Anime character but because I can't sow and my mom's to busy to show me it kind of blows the whole thing.
There are more but I can't think of any right now.
I spend Halloween inside and reading the Bible, and here's an excellent tip for tricker treaters, my dad made up a little orange paper with a black deadly sign and then inside is about how satanic Halloween is. We pass them out to each kid who comes to the door, along with the candy. Also a good note is to give the kids good candy or else the next morning you'll wake up with broken windows, shaving cream, silly string and eggs leaking down the side of your house. Just though I would warn everyone in case they didn't know. ^^;;;
Everyone please enjoy yourselves but remember what holiday this is.
P.S. Keep all dogs and cats inside before and after dark, Satan worshipers do like to take them and sacrifice them to Satan. I'm not joking. It's also a good idea to keep an eye on them day before and after Halloween, you never know how long people will hang around to get something.

You know there's also a tract that focuses on the christian aspects around the holiday.

IMO, it's only a Satanic holiday if you are celebrating Satan. I'd rather focus on the Christian aspects of the holiday than tell little kids, who are just out to have fun and get some candy, that it's a Satanic holiday. All that's likely to do it rouse their interest in Satanism. ("What's this Satanism thing? Halloween is fun, so... Satanism must be pretty cool too!")

I see the day as a fun excuse to dress up, be silly, eat candy, and maybe even meet the neighbors.

Named for the goddess of the harvest. Yup.

Same thing with Yuletide (Christmas).

Which is why I always celebrate Halloween. It's a fun day to get free candy. :D Or, it WOULD be, if I wasn't 24 and there were laws against it. :\ So I'll just go buy a bag of candy or something.

I've never done anything for Halloween, but I have always thought it would be fun to make a constume and dress up. And the candy wouldn't be too bad either.

It is a satanic holiday, no looking around it.
As long as you don't worship evil (this is a Christian forum thank God) than by all means enjoy yourselves, for fun I wouldn't mind going out in a costume just to have fun either but the natural holiday is demonic.
Please everyone keep your pets in the house, keep yourself your family and friends in the house, and have a fun time.
I was thinking that one of these years for fun I'd love to neko cosplay.

Luckily I have good neighbors. That wasn't the case a while ago.
I think Halloween is not A OK at all but for Christians who realize what they are doing it seems fine, I'm just stating my honest opinion about it. Please forgive me if I sounded to jumpy. ^^;

I don't think celebrating halloween is bad, but I respect those who do. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this? I heard that it used to be called All Saints Day. I forgot who said it but I always wondered whether or not it was true. Thanks! :)

My parents have a book about it written by a very strong believer and it states in clear sight that "Halloween is Satan's holiday" If you are a believer and you know what Halloween is about you will know that it is not a clean holiday to celebrate. If you just want to have fun with friends, cosplay, eat candy, the ritz that is fine but the main holiday is not an okay thing to celebrate in itself.

The name "Halloween" comes from the Christian tradition. It is derived from "All Hallow's Eve." October 31st is the eve of All Hallows day, better known as All Saints Day. This is a day when the church celebrates and remembers the lives of the saints.

If you think about it, no one really "celebrates" this holidays. We just use the name to mark the date we do something.

Halloween = the time we dress up and get candy.

Easter = we don't worship eggs or bunnies any more, we just use it as the time to remember Jesus' resurrection.

I am a very skeptical Christian though. I believe what I believe and have a strong-will to stick with it. God tells each of His Children to do and to listen to different things, but I somehow believe Halloween was never included in this description. Like I said before I won't stop anybody else who goes to have fun, it's not a bad thing to enjoy yourself but I just would never do it is all I'm saying.

I think my opinion may have shifted a little. To add a little to what Kae said, Apparently October 31st was a celtic holiday in which the druids worshipped the God of death, known as Samhain. But in the eigth century Pope Gregorylll moved All saint's day to November 1st in an effort to combat the pagan festival.(isn't the internet great?) If you go to any christian site, it'll tell you that most of our halloween traditions come from the druids' superstitions. So, I guess the best way to deal with this is to just do what you feel in your conscience is right. When I was younger we would always celebrate at our Church's October festival! It was so much fun and was a celebration of God's work, not the occult.

And Eriana, keep that Skepticism! Listening to your gut will never let you down!

I will...Trust me from past results of not following the Holy Spirit it has turned out as pretty as an old piece of charcoal left in a dusty corner. A weird way of putting it but you get the general idea. And Starfire I'm glad you looked this up, it was a very good idea. You seem to be a strong Christian and I would strongly recommend keeping that up as well.

Thanks Eriana! I'm glad you challenged my opinion! I think God meant for me to look that up because I found some other interesting articles I can't wait to read. And I know what you mean about the Holy Spirit thing. I have that too, like sometimes you just know stuff. Here's the name of those web sites, I think you'd like them. while i'm not exactly hip on doing anything that gives attention to evil (satan or otherwise), i'm not content to just let an opportunity to share the gospel with kids or even teens pass me by, so i'm already looking at the tracks that i'm planning on using with the candy i'm going to hand out so that perhaps God's word will get in there somewhere, i just hope i'm not casting pearls before swine

Thank you so much for listening to your heart, I know that it can be hard sometimes but I think you really proved yourself to be a strong-willed Christian by all of your research, by doing this you proved you were interested in learning the truth on your own backgrounds. I really respect that.

I give candy to trick or treaters, but in no way will I celebrate Halloween. It is Satan's holiday, that's all there is to it. I'm not exaggerating. Celebrating it by dressing up and trick or treating won't send you to hell or anything obviously, but it's important to know the kind of day it is.

Every day belongs to the Lord, regardless of how people use it. Halloween is no more "Satan's holiday" than any other day of the calendar, especially in the modern version of the holiday.

I didn't say Satan owns the day or something, I mean that is the day that is really his holiday. Many animals and people go missing that day because of satanists offering sacrifices.
