Why Zero?

Postby HwaRang777 » Wed Sep 21, 2005 7:48 pm

I'm just wondering, regardless of whether any of my threads had any replies, why is it that some threads don't get any replies regardless of how many people have looked at it. I'm not trying to be a pain and to say "hey, I want someone to say something in my thread!" no, what I'm trying to figure out, is what are some/is the most common reasons as to why any thread would get little or no replies, even when people have viewed them
Arise now, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Dire deeds awake, dark is it eastward.
Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded
forth Eorlingas!

I guess some of the reasons why I wouldn't post, even if it was an interesting thread are:
- I don't know quite what to say.
- I don't have time to respond with a well-thought out reply.

And after a thread ages a little and hasn't received a reply, it can kinda get lost among the newer and popular threads.

Here's to those threads that deserve lots of posts but have been negnected!
"Everybody's weird in their own special way." - P.V.
"Never refuse a breath mint." - my dad
"The UAC is making safer worlds through superior firepower." - Doom 3
"This world is a great sculptor's shop. We are the statues and there is a rumour going round the shop that some of us are some day going to come to life." - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

"I'm too cool to scroll. -- MOES."

As others before me have already said, people probably just don't have much to say about it. There aren't really any reasons, I guess. Sometimes people have their own opinions or responses, and sometimes they just don't. =)

By my analysis, you have started 50 threads, and only 6 of those have gotten zero responses. That's a fairly good ratio, especially considering that quite a number of those threads are in the Jam Session forum, where the chances of no one responding are rather high.

As others have said, many look at a thread but find they have nothing to say. Also, keep in mind that you might have generated a fair number of those Views yourself.

Thank you. Not only is this annoying, we actively try to discourage it.

I think sometimes people don't know what you're talking about. Like when I posted about some of the old message board rpgs I'd been in and got nothing but a spam reply.

It was probably in the wrong forum, so I'll just try again.

Some of the threads have a missleading title. Ive seen some I thought were about one thing but were completely different.

Are you starting threads just so you can get people to talk to you? Sometimes that happens and they dont really stop to think if the subject is really all that interesting. If thats the case try PMing people who you have seen in boards that you go to alot.

Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Personally...I don't reply to a thread when I can't think of anything helpful to say in response...I would rather post something insightful than to merely just post a reply merely for the sake of posting....
