What kind of worship do you perfer?

I tend to belive there are 2 types of contemporary worship

One is being the fast-paced "Jesus roxxor my soxxor" type of song. Like "Everyday", "God is Great" "Glory Defined" "Glory" "O Praise him" "He reigns" By such groups like Hillsong and David Crowder

The other is being the slower... seemingly "more emotional" type. Such as Michael W. Smith songs, like "Let it rain" and others like "Here I am to worship", "Presence(Newsboys)" "Majesty (Delirious)" "Worthy Is the Lamb" and "Above All"

So which one do you perfer?

To me, its VERY hard... it usually depends on my mood. But I generally like the slower ones more ^_^

Yea... i agreee with you ,Ryan, it is very hard to choose, and it usually depends on the emotional state i am in. I don't think it really matter to me: Worship is worship. As long as it is glorifiying the LORD, i will sing/like it. But there are definately times for both, and i like both equally... you should have had a choice for both! T.T. Anywho... i tend to like the slow ones more... if i indeed must make a choice. e.e

Sometimes I feel like Showbreading or rocking out to Becoming The Achetype. Norma Jean too.

Other days I dance to Matthew West or something fast with accoustics.

But since your poll only lists fast-paced and slow-paced contemporary styles, I prefer slower-paced.

The slow but not the one'es you would expect. Showbread's Matthias Replaces Judas or Brave Saint Saturn's Estrella. Those are the ones i worship too. The ones that hit my heart so hard I start crying.

Regular worship. The ones with the guy/girl duo and organs, arent my cup of tea. But people worship to that, so I give em props for liking that.

Voice of Truth has me crying a lot. Cuz my school is very immoral and i feel all alone, and im persecuted for my faith pretty much. And I will ignore all that, and listen to Jesus, the voice of truth ^_^ It parallels with me SOOOO well

I also love He Reigns by newsboys, the lyrics are so enticing.

The slow, more traditional stuff really hits you hard, but I the more upbeat stuff is really fun too, especially during youth retreats/events and such. So my definite answer will have to be "cheez".

I prefer Psalms, Isaiah, all the songs that are actually in the Bible, The Odes of Solomon, much of the old stuff that made it into classical music - and consider most of the two given choices the musical equivalent of selling one's birthright for shards of pottage, as the modern Western church seems to do quite frequently - probably one of the reasons Christianity is slipping from here and literally rather than figuratively going South.

Allow me to third this, gentlemen. I generally prefer songs and hymns that do not repeat the same words more than once or twice, if possible. Of the hymns that I like, though, I do like a good variety of upbeat and slower ones. ^_^

I agree, I love hyms. But I do occasionally enjoy some of the newer contemporary stuff too.

I guess you are referring only to music. I was about to say liturgical. I also prefer traditional hymns, but I don't feel they fit into the two categories you've created. Some traditional hymns, such as Gaudete (my favorite) are very fast and lively, while others, such as Tantum Ergo are slow, but not necesarrily emotional.

for me it depends. in general i like contemporary worship music, but some of those hymns are so beautiful, i like those too. at times i wanna jump around and praise God with the fast and loud music, and at other times i want to just be still in His presence with the slow quiet stuff.

actually i'm involved in leading worship at my church in a non-traditional way. we have a drama/dance team that worships God through choreographed dances to worship songs. i love being a part of it, and the response we've had so far has been a positive one! dancing is one of my favorite ways to worship God!

praise is saying " Him" and "He"... His name indirectly.

worship "Jesus" "Lord" "Adonai"... direct.

I would say fast praise to get the heart and stupid Flesh going.

I would say slower worship to get the heart in the "Holy of Holies" and get the "Flesh" to bow down.

I'll fifth this. I've never been very comfortable with the other kind although I have tried it. Essentially though for me its not the way in which it is done but the words sung and the fact that I agree with what I'm saying. Because one likes an organ and the other something more upbeat does not mean either is incorrect.

Just a note to our non-music-oriented community. While worship is an important part of our relationship with God, worshiping does not solely take the form of singing or playing music.

But for the worship that does take this form, I prefer a nice ballance of both contemporary music as well as hymns. Heart of Worship is one of my all time favorites!

Voice of Truth has me crying a lot.

I just love that song too, infact that is the song that pretty much embodies our upcomming missions trip. (and we used it in our Power Point presentation for this reason)

The worship styles are like my childrens - I love both of them!
But if I had to choose favourites.... I would probably say the faster upbeat ones (from a playing perspective).

I've found that when my head and my heart are in the right place, I can worship to any style.

If I am in a less-than-spiritual mood, then I have difficulty with all styles.

The key is to approach worship in the right mindframe and not to expect the worship songs to get you ready. Be ready when you enter the place of worship.

I prayer for all of you is that you do not become like (or do not stay like) many of the folks I know who dislike one style of worship or another. That's not being fair toward God.

The words and the attitude are far more important than the melody and the meter.

All that said, there's nothing wrong with having a favorite. I'll have to sixth (seventh?) the vote for classic, traditional hymns and such. I've had plenty of great worship experiences in all three styles listed here, but when I am not in the right mindframe, traditional hymns stand the best chance of bringing me into the right mindframe.

Slow songs touch me more, but I can find God in both fast and slow songs, contemporary or traditional or new age music n_n I feel God in music in general...that's why I love it so much. Generally the slow songs get me, though.

I prefer a blended style of worship with both traditional hymns which have the force of doctrinal background and softer contemporary that aids in drawing people closer to an expression of worship before the Lord. If a service is well organized, than music, praise, prayer and preaching all speak to a specific theme with Christ as the center of that theme.

None of the above (including the poll options and those discussed in this thread). The type of worship is irrelevant to me; I do not "like" any kind (or, I dislike all kinds equally). But worship is not about me in the first place, it is about God. The process between me and my creator will happen (or not happen) regardless of the style of worship.

I come at this from a different angle because I express myself better through movement than through words. So I like music I can dance to (which really means about anything) because I feel much closer to God when I dance my priase to Him.

I think hymns should have a place in contemporary worship. People can become a bit sensationalist and hymns bring peeople down to earth ny simply stating the truth. They also focus on God while some contemporary songs focus on us. Worship isn't about us, so we shouldn't be expecting stuff from God while we worship. We should be giving to Him because wo love Him. So getting back on track, the music isn't what matters to me, it's the heart. Music can't get me in the mood to worship, only I can do that.

The older I get the more I perfer some type of traditional liturgical worship service
that includes the traditional creeds and confessions as part of the worhsip.
