Holloween?

Postby ~Natsumi Lam~ » Mon Sep 19, 2005 4:58 am

Well Holloween is coming up in a month or so...

Do you dress up in a costume, party, go trick-or-treating, some kinda church fest, or you dont do anything on that day?

How old is too old to trick or treat?[for those who believe in it]

Side note: i remember i wasnt allowed to trick-or-treat till i was 18. haha

Ooo! Oo! Well, I'm not exactly going trick or treating, but some friends and I are considering heading up to Atlanta (a bigger city) and dressing up and walking around town :D If I dress up, I'm going to get cat ears and a cat tail, dress in all black and be a witty n_n

Pfft. You're never too old to have good clean fun, I say.

*waits for anti-Halloween nuts to descend on thread*

I stopped trick-or-treating around age 12, although I continue to celebrate Halloween by going to parties, watching scary movies, and occasionally dressing up.

This year I will either not dress up at all, or do something elaborate (I was thinking about dressing up as the Phantom of the Opera).

We have a party at my house for all the church peeps and any friends that anyone wants to invite. A lot of times all the kids get together and we play capture the flag while all the adults sit around a bonfire. But later on we all line dance which happens to be way more fun than it sounds, except for the fact that there are two teenage guys in my church and about fifteen or twenty teenage girls, so there are obviously not enough male partners to go around, meaning that about half the girls have to play guy parts :shady:. We definitely need more guys in our church.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Hmm, I'm planning on dressing up on Halloween as well, just so I won't be sticking out among all the weirdos at college...>.> This year I'm planning to be Top Dollar from the movie The Crow, instead of my usual "Death" getup.

I love dressing up, even though I'm old... :sweat:

I don't beg candy, though. Last year I went with my friend and her kid, but we let the little one have all the candy. :grin: It was interesting seeing the expressions of some people in the neighborhood as they answered the door -- people who are not from America and weren't sure what to make of this strange custom.

I don't know what I'll dress up as this year. I might be making my own mask.

I haven't gone trick or treating for a few years now. (gotta maintain the rep! :cool: jk) I'll probably just pass out candy and watch horror movies. Or that Tom Cruise interview. It has the same effect.

I absolutly love Halloween. I love the time of year, I love dressing up. It has to be one of my fav times of the year. Last year I worked in a haunted house and had a ball. That group dident decide to do it this year sadly...hopefully they will next year.

I can't wait until Halloween night. ^_^

i dunno what i'm doing for sure, but i'm in enough organizations that one or more of them is bound to be doing something fun. last time i went trick-or-treating was 7th grade, i handed out candy in my dorm last year, which was fun, seeing all the little kids in their costumes. i'm planning on dressing up this year, dunno what as yet, though.

ROTFL No, actually I was talking about that Tom Cruise, Matt Lauer(?) interview. The one where he freaked out? I think it was on Good Morning America. Sorry, few people are disturbed enough to get my sense of humor, or lack thereof.

I've never been trick or treating ever, and never dressed up for that purpose. My family and I always went out to dinner, though, so my parents wanted to make sure that we weren't you know like, totally out of anything fun that our friends were doing, but they had very heavy consciences towards that night.

Anyway, this year, my church here in Fort Worth is having a fall festival. Chances are I'll be volunteering to help some of the neighborhood kids have fun at the games. Maybe they'll let us dress up as Bible characters (I was Rachel once).

I love Halloween...but I usually end up passing out candy or just walking around in costume. And I almost always go as an anime character, which adds to the fun (this year I'll be going as Ed Elric XD).

X3 Halloween is awesome! It's how I got into cosplay in a strange way. :lol: I still love going door to door and trick-or-treating, though my friends and I are probably going to be throwing some sort of crazy party instead this time around.

I've worn my cosplay costumes out every year since I was in middle school, and this year I intend to continue this tradition by being L from Death Note. =3

I usually sit out front of my parents' house passing out candy. I give 1 to 3 pieces on a "grading scale" based on how good the kid's costume is in proportion to how good they could have done.
I've never dressed up to pass out candy, but this year I'm seriously considering cosplaying as Morpheus from The Sandman.

That sounds more fun than candy. May I join? :3

I haven't been that into in awhile. I mean, the last two times I was a Ringwraith and a "Nintendo Fanatic". :/

But this year, it'll be the first time I officially "cosplay", going as, you guessed it, Monkey D. Luffy. ^o^

We have a "Fall Festival" at our church and I use to make this maze thing at it, but after last year's disaster, I don't think that's gonna work...

i'm going to do something truly devious on halloween, i'm going to dress up as some giving out candy, when in fact i'm going to be someone giving out candy AND kid-friendly/teen-friendly gospel tracks for all the trick-or-treaters to read, and with this, my evil plans to save the world are one step closer, ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

KYAAAAAAAAAA~! L~! I love! I demand pictures!

*ahem* I feel mostly the same way about Halloween; I'll definitely be dressing up, though I don't know if I'll have the chance to go trick-or-treating. I'll probably either use my Orochimaru costume again, reuse my Draco Malfoy costume, or be a random Shinigami from Bleach. Maybe. Subject to change. ^__^

I might go trick-or-treating with my friends. I'll be a doctor (I know asians and medical professions go hand in hand) with the full labcoat, scrub uniform, stethoscope, everything.

Now, I don't want to disrespect any one but here is my view on halloween (note: none of you have to believe this, but if you agree with me, you may say something if you want)

I don't think that celebrating halloween is wrong. In fact, the catholic church intentionally put a christian holiday on hallow's eve (original pagan holiday). So long as you don't egg peoples houses, perform satanic rituals, TP someones house, summon demons, or just causing havok, you are ok.

Now to the joys of halloween:
with candy, only get as much as you can preserve/consume. Only take as much as it will allow. ex) If I go trickertreating and get 5 lbs of candy, and I can only eat .25 lbs in one day, if it can last 20 days, keep all five pounds. however, most candies don't have that kind of shelve life, so either give it to someone you know.

Also, make sure you/your kids know where they are trickertreating, I have had more than my fare share of pranks pulled on me, but also as an obvious reason to make sure what's going on and which neighbors you can trust (some creeps put bad stuff in the candy)
Arise now, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Dire deeds awake, dark is it eastward.
Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded
forth Eorlingas!
