The Idiot's Guide to Vacation Planning...

Postby Debitt » Sun Sep 18, 2005 8:46 pm

Well, I know a lot of people are going to hate me when I say this, but I have the opportunity to go to Japan this Christmas, and I'm very excited about it. I'm going with my father and possibly some of my extended family, and we'll be staying in the Tokyo/Kyoto areas for the duration of our stay.

Now that's where I need everyone else's help, because the job of planning everything we're going to see has fallen on my shoulders. My dad knows nothing about Japan, and I can't readily talk to anyone else in my family who's been. We're not going for very long, so I'm unsure as to what to see/do while we're there.

For those who've been to Japan, or even for those who haven't been, any suggestions as to the sights to see? I'll take any suggestion - anime stores to check out, shrines/castles/temples to see, restaraunts to check out. ^^; I'm very overwhelmed with this and school, so I need all the help I can get.

:o How wonderful yet difficult!

I guess you can't email anyone already there, huh? : (

Rooting for you ~ but sadly, I'm no help.

Although the internet could probably provide something. Somewhere. :sweat:

One hint might be Yahoo groups. They can be rather specific.

One good place to check out (I hear) is Akihabara. It's a distric in the Tokyo area that is home to a lot of stores - it's the otaku capitol of Japan.

ClosetOtaku has actually spent time in Japan. If he doesn't find his way in here, you may want to PM him.

Yes, I hate you for going to Japan, and I hope you have a miserable time. ;)

Akihabara is very cool, I am told. Some of my unusual Japanese gadgets and old computers came from there.

Are you only staying in Tokyo and environs? Are you making any trips out and about?

I'm only going to be there for 7 days total, and we're going to be seeing Kyoto, Tokyo, and Nagoya, and that's about the extent of it. There's a lot of beautiful places in Kyoto I'd like to see, but I'm not sure how much we could get done in a day. x3 And I'm very determined to see Ueno Park in Tokyo, since it was in Tactics. XD;

^O^/ Akihabara sounds interesting, though~ I'll definitely look into it! <3
