I thought the scene in episode three:Sasuke And Sakura:Friends Or Foes?
where Naruto as Sasuke is about to get a kiss from the unsuspecting Sakura
when he gets the cramps all of a sudden was pretty hilarious. It was also ironic
that Sasuke found Sakura just as annoying as Sakura found Naruto!

I thought that something was edited. Sasuke and Naruto were staring each other down, and then for what seemed like no reason, everyone was really angry and Sakura (I think) said "I wanted to be Sasuke's first kiss!" So I figured they kissed in the original Japanese version, and it was edited out. Guess my hunch was right.

That dub wasn't bad at all! Ya'll need to stop complaining. Just think that it could have been as bad as One Piece's, XD. The voices fitted well, methinks. THey kept the music too, which really put me in favor of the dub. And really, if you can't stand it or hate it, don't watch it. ^-^

I have never seen the sub. My opinion as someone who never seen the sub. "I think it is a good show". If you have seen the sub already why do you care how bad the dub is. I mean come on you have already seen it in all it's unchanged glory. The ones who should be mad are people like me.

I've only watched the first episode and so far, the voices seemed fine to me. Naruto sounds like a young boy whose voice hasn't cracked yet (in the puberty-wise) so I'm not bothered by it. Sakura's voice was annoying but then again, she is meant to be annoying in the beginning.

Here`s an idea, dub-makers: Use a boy to do a boys voice.

Forgot to comment on this. Not many grown men can voice work a young boy effectively for obvious reasons. And using a young boy do to a young boy voice could possibly interfer any child labor laws and also isn't exactly the most professional course of action.

So therefore, we have women do young boy voices which more then half og the time is a pretty bang up job with them.

It's understandable if people don't want something they like to be treated with disrespect. It's just that Naruto isn't being treated like that. One Piece is an example of a bad dub. You can debate whether or not it's a good show(I know there are people here that like the dub), but you can't debate that, as far as dubbing goes, it was done badly. Added dialogue, out of character dialogue, useless name changes, changed music, and weird edits(the changing riceballs into cookies thing comes to mind); these are the things that make a bad dub. With it's superior ratings, Naruto flies in the face of One Piece, proving that you can have an accurate dub and still be successful.

Maybe you didn't hear it but they added a loud "smooch" sound affect to imply off-camera they did.

They definitely made what happened clear. Having seen pictures of the removed scene, I gotta say that I can definitely understand why it was edited(it's a close up shot, so it fills the whole screen). It wouldn't have bothered me since it was accidental, but I imagine it would have unnerved others.

There was one thing I forgot to mention. The scene right after Sasuke(the real one) talks to Sakura, where Naruto says something along the lines of "Yeah, that's what I'll do", was added to make up for the few second time loss from removing the bum wiping scene.

my friend let me watch the dubs intro & ending movies, the music i thought was not good, i hated it, why could they not keep in the original music? and the vidoes of it, WHY did they have garaa, lee etc. in hte video when they won't be in it for ages? i think i'll stick with the sub & if i get any of the DVD's i'll be getting japanese imports.

It was mentioed earlier that TV Tokyo who distributes Naruto wanted the US liscening company to change the intro and ending movie and theme song.

ashfire wrote:About theme music for different series. I attended a corporation panel showing of Guu at Otakon and the ending theme was changed to a old disco music intermental. REASON, licensing conflict. So what we Americans will buy at the store will not be what we down loaded from the web for our or anime club entertainment or what we got to see subed at a con

So it's not Vix's fault...actually it's no ones. This is what TV Tokyo wanted different about the series in relation to the Japanese version. It happens alot. That's why in some series, some of the terms or ideas are different ot worded different compared to the Japanese. As for changing the videos and such, I think because of new music, they wanted to make a new opening and ending. Personally I don't mind it; I actually do like the ending theme song a bit. As for Gaara and Rock Lee, most of the people who are watching Naruto has read the manga or know a bit about the series. As for those do don't, they get to wonder. "Hey who are those people? They look cool".

Kinda like the same reason why they left the orginal ending of Rurouni Kenshin with the Toonami edit, it showed images of Aoshi, Shishio, and several other baddies. You wonder who they are and adds a mysterious affect to it.

I find it funny that they removed the scene with Naruto in the bathroom (though I don't really care), and find it slightly amusing that they removed the kiss.

They're using a child for Alphonase Elric, and as far as I know they haven't been prosecuted by anyone.

To take uc's statement to another level, what about child actors in movies? There are child actors, so there's probably child voice actors, which baffles me why they feel the need to have adults try and imitate a child's voice (which usually sounds bad).

I think one of the reasons why they don't use child voice actors cause their might not be alot of them out there. I never heard of until UC brought up the VA of Alphonse. As well, the only youth that could do voice work and have enough experience would be child actors in movies and since when do you see an actor voice a character in a anime that isnt a block buster? (princess mononoke, howls moving castle, etc). I don't think they have the time or the willingness to voice act an entire series.

Another reason is I think the dubbing companies are going to hire people that have more experience. Plus they are going to look at thier resume and possibly not ealot of schooling or voice lessons may come into play. As well it might be hard for child voice actors to get started to do more experienced voice actors.

Just my take on that.

I actually liked *all* of the voices, really; ...Aside from sakura's - she's too whiny. Naruto's was very good, it just took a tiny bit of time to get used to, not sure if it'll age well, and sasuke's was decent. All in all a fair dub, nothing so bad as one piece, but neither was it as good as cowboy bebop.

As for the VA's, AnimeNewsNetwork.com has a list of all of 'em, in english and in japanese. (with links to the VA's which I find useful).

I have to half agree with you on this. The reason it's terrible is not how the voice itself is, perse, but his personality.

His English VA makes him out to be very stern, which is completely opposite of his personality. Kakashi is a very laid-back person, and usually responds to stiuations in this manner. That's what I like about him. He's calm and cool even in the most dire of situations. The Japanese VA portrayed this perfectly, in my opinion.

The English VA, on the other hand, sounds like he has no idea what Kakashi's personality is. It just irritates me beyond all reason. :bang:
"That Man, born in That Day and also known by the alias This Guy or That Person, is well-known among ninja of the world for developing That Jutsu and his key role in That Incident. However, he should not be confused with That Man who is That Man but is not really That Man." -Uncylopedia.org, on the Naruto character That Man

I thought Kakashi's VA did a excellent job. I think he portrayed his laid-back personality pretty well. Almost to well in my opinion - to the point that it seemed he was almost alseep. However, he did have a stern voice but that's all we got to hear of him. I look foward to the next episode. Kakashi's VA is a very good VA that I have liked alot of the work he has done.

We should probably reserve judgement on Kakashi's personality as portrayed by the English voice actor until the next episode. That's where we really see his character. I find it vaguely ironic that I'm commenting so much on this without having seen more than 1.5 episodes. Perhaps I'll be able to pick up the third and fourth episodes at some point.

I actually think that they did fairly well. I mean, think how hard it has to be to dub a show that not only has a completely different language, but comes from a completely different culture as well. All anime are probably originally loaded with inside jokes about Japanese life that young fans just wouldn't get. They have to add something over that and change the storyline a little each time. But still maintain the original plot or face the wrath of angry fanboys/girls. And then find a voice actor who matches the oc's voice exactly, only in English? Not an easy job.

Why? I agree with you. The dub was well-made, period. The voices themselves were mostly very well matched to the voices in the japanese manga, the pronunciations were good for english VA's, and the production team seemed like they were really trying. I've seen a *lot* worse. (Tokyo mew mew comes to mind...)

And they didn't edit out much. That's the best part.

Meh; I'm just reiterating what I said in my first post. It wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be: if you want a perfect dub, get the japanese VA's to learn english and have *them* re-do it - that'll silence the naysayers faster than anything else, regardless of the actual "quality" of the VAing.

Well, my bro's friend finally gave us a recording of the third episode dub, and I thought it was quite good.

Most of the voices were very well done, IMO. Naruto's... eh, wasn't bad, but I think it could have been better. He just didn't sound like I had pictured him from the mangas.

Like UC said, we can't tell much about Kakashi's voice till the next episode.

One thing I must say is that I found the whole bathroom deal with Naruto quite humorous (especially with the Dopplegangers), and I finally found out what the whole deal was with the expired milk.

Ok I HAVE to voice my opinion on voice effects.

Alot of people find Star Ocean III a bad game because the voices stink...um...ok?
Now, are you guys critisizing the fact the voices don`t match the character? That I can understand, but critisizing someone`s voice is kind of insulting to the person doing it.

I can accept you guys insulting Tom Kenny for doing Spongebob`s voice since that`s not his real voice tone but if annoying voices is enough to ruin a series that`s pathetic. NEWSFLASH! Some people may find your voices annoying.
EVERY dang character is Naruto`s voice matches their character. Sakura sounds whiny because....she whines. Saske`s sounds serious because uh....he IS serious.

You guys can bash me all you want if you feel differently.

On a note, how could they have accidently kissed? You heard naruto make kissing sound effects.......uh, that`s pathetic. I mean if they bumped into each other and their lips touched since they fell into each other, that makes sence it happens...but sitting on someone`s desk and puckering up.....uh no.

I won't comment upon your criticism critique, save for the sake of that sentence.

Their accidental kiss was indeed contrived (is there any other kind?) but not so unreasonable. Naruto was on Sasuke's desk and they were glaring at each other (and yes, Naruto is the type to jump on someone's desk), and then someone bumps Naruto, knocking him forward into Sasuke. I imagine that would make a bonking sound instead of a kissing one, but ah well.

I can't remember whether it made a kissing noise in the anime or not - but from a manga perspective, I don't think the scene itself had any sound effect, so I can see where they could have added that without realizing what they're doing.

And ... People are complaining about Sasuke's voice sounding serious? Have you SEEN the japanese anime? He sounds like a depressed twenty-five-year-old -if anything, he's less serious in the english version.
