According to the dictionary, avoidance of expressions or actions that can be perceived to exclude or marginalize or insult people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

It sounds good in THEORY, but what it ends up doing is making everything sound ridiculous. Example.

Politically incorrect: Midget

Politically correct: Vertically challenged person

I used to have the books "Politically Correct Fairy Tales" and "Politically Correct Bible Stories."

Thank you, Kae. MM, I sort of feel that "politically correctness" has some filtered in, possibly in some sort of belief that kids like what they've done to it. Possibly, they do, but for those that are truly into the show (or anime in general) it ticks off. Big time. And I'm already fed up with "political correctness" as it is.

As I said, I don't really care and there's no way any of you will change my opinion.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but you can at least give the original a chance. If you like super-soaker-toting troops, subpar voice acting, and crappy editing, well, I guess that's just the way you are (no offense).

I like the manga, but I haven't seen the original subbed eps. I didn't really mind most of the voices, until I heard Sanji's voice. His voice just irratates me. ^^

DVDs and Fansubs are our friends. :D

4Kids is not. 4Kids is more like that annoying little kid who follows all the cool kids around, thinking it is too, yet thinks that even the word "stupid" is a bad word.

I'd really like to see how they handle some of the slightly more serious parts later on, such as:
The battle with Crocodile where he stabs Luffy with his hook and throws him into the sand. What? Are they gonna have his hook suddenly turn into a plunger and knock Luffy in?

It's already bad enough that they're going to remove the cigar, which will make Crocodile look like an idiot, walking around everywhere with his mouth open like that.

Or how about when Luffy discovers he can use his own blood to defeat him? Lemme guess, they'll probably just replace it with sweat, right?
Actually, I don't think it's the kids.
I believe it's more the fault of:

a. Over-reactive parents who get offended very easily.
These are also the same people who think all anime is either porn or satanic.

b. Certain family-oriented groups who would also complain if they thought what their children were watching was "too violent" or offensive.

c. The FCC.
FOX, 4kids, and other companies don't want the government breathing down their backs or placing more restrictions on their networks. This is also why 4kidsTV and KidsWB are more heavily edited than cable stations like Cartoon Network...

Yeah, I guess that makes more sense. Maybe they should have gotten two people to edit it, one for 4Kids and one for CN? Of course, there's about a thousand reasons why that wouldn't work...

One Piece isn't a kid's show. It's been said multiple times, but the optimistic main character does not make the show into a kid-friendly, bloodless adventure story about happy pirates. Editing out death and any hint of seriousness will destroy character development and the very plot itself. Normally, I'm not an anti-dub crusader, but I really think that the soul of One Piece has been removed by the dubbing company.

Amen and amen to that, Myoti.

SOME dubs are even better or funnier than the sub (Saiyuki, for instance), and most nowadays are good.

>< But not with 4Kids.

I just saw today's episode.

Well, at least they had real guns they were firing at Dalton this time instead of pop guns or super soakers. Also, they actually had Dalton attacking this time (though there were was no blood, obviously), and Dalton got shot with arrows, but again, they didn't actually show them sticking out from him.
Wapol got hit by Dalton, but they didn't show his decapitated head, which disappointed me since I thought that was pretty funny :/

I thought Wapol and Dalton's voices were okay, but Chess's and Marsimo's make me cringe. -__-

As usual, they cut out the good lines, so the verdict for this dub would have to be "PFFT!".

I`ll tell you why i like it...

Ahem....

Because the dubbed version is the only one I have seen. I have honestly never seen the original version. I love the theme song. As lame and stupid as it is, it`s very catchy.

I`m glad Zoro`s name was changed to Zolo and i have to word to desribe why:

Antonio banderas.

Sure Zorro is a classic, but it shoudl`nt be associated with a show about pirates. I sat through two sagas on saturday nights. I think it`s a corny kids show, but I still like it.

I saw the Buggy and Murmon saga.

I think Luffy`s voice matches him perfectly as well as the rest of the cast. that doesn`t mean i like their voices.

I personally hate Usap and i think Zolo is the Vegeta of One Piece.Me and my freind were guessing who the last villian was going to be...

I say the ghost of Gold Roger...but I`m sure only you guys would know.

Question: Is One Piece enough to be on adult swim? If so, then as soon as the series wraps up on 4kids i think they should immediately send it to Adult swim so the us can see a side to the show they never saw before. I don`t know about you guys, but where i`m from Anime`s really only popular with the kids.

It's also the only version I have seen and while I must admit that the theme is "catchy", I have at least seen the original openers (as well as downloading the songs), and they are much, much better. In fact, 90% of the dub theme's graphics is ripped from the other openers and closers.

That's the probably the whole reason it was changed. I don't really mind the change save the fact that his name was spelled out as "Zoro" (only one Z, BTW). Also, I don't believe Oda really meant any connection between "Mr. Bushido" and the black-masked Spaniard. Roronoa Zoro was more based off a real pirate by the name of L'Ollanois (I believe).

I saw the Buggy and Murmon saga.

Merman?

I think Luffy`s voice matches him perfectly as well as the rest of the cast. that doesn`t mean i like their voices.

In a way, I'd have to agree, but in many, many cases it doesn't. And, like you, it doesn't make me like the voices anymore.

I personally hate Usap and i think Zolo is the Vegeta of One Piece.Me and my freind were guessing who the last villian was going to be...

I say the ghost of Gold Roger...but I`m sure only you guys would know.

At first I hated Usopp (and his dubbed voice didn't help any), but I as began to read the translated mangas, I eventually began to gain a slight respect for him. He knew how to hold his own later on in the Alabasta Arc, and by Water 7... I won't spoil it for you, but it was quite interesting (PM me if you really want to know).

Zoro as Vegeta? Eh, I don't see it. Vegeta is a crazy villain-turned-into-good-guy-no-one-can-beat-me kinda guy. Zoro's a little similar, but they way he typically acts later on is quite different, trust me.

As for the final villain, no one but Oda would know as the series has yet to reach a conclusion. The ghost of Gold Rogers is something I've thought about as well, but I have a slightly different theory (PM if you want to know this as well; there's also a very interesting little tid-bit on "Gold Rogers" you may want to know...).

Question: Is One Piece enough to be on adult swim? If so, then as soon as the series wraps up on 4kids i think they should immediately send it to Adult swim so the us can see a side to the show they never saw before. I don`t know about you guys, but where i`m from Anime`s really only popular with the kids.

Probably not, unfortunately. There was one scene in the Alabasta Arc, but nothing was really shown and I'm not sure if it was in the anime or not.
However, if Naruto got a TV-PG rating, then a remake on Toonami could work (though that's highly unlikely...).

Okay, saw an episode tonight.

UGH. UGH. UGH.

The opening is HORRENDOUS. A travesty against music, I say.

Luffy's voice sucks. Zolo's is okay. The blue haired woman I saw in the episode (dunno her name) had NO emotion in her voice whatsoever. It had that "Just reading lines in a script" feel.

I was able to stand it up until I heard Sanji's voice. After I heard Sanji speak about two sentences, I couldn't take it anymore. So I didn't watch an entire episode, but with voices like that, I didn't need to.

Lord Impacto sent me the opening. I watched it, and laughed for a good 5 minutes straight. Then started laughing everytime I even thought about that atrosity. I didn't think anything could be so bad, but 4Kids has proved me wrong.

The lollipop...the gun edits...the "juice" edit...all really sad when you think about it, since kids are exposed to that kind of thing in day to day life anyways...

One: I have a problem with the English voice actors. They just don't fit the roles.
Two: I have problem with the Japanese studio that animated it. One piece is currently the NUMBER ONE most popular manga in Japan...and it gets this kind of animation treatment? Sheesh.

I guess Carl Macek is right...the Japanese aren't invincible when it comes to entertainment. For now, I say both sides get negatives on One Piece.

I don't see what your problem is with One Piece's animation. It's different and stylish. I think it looks great for the look of the show, personally.

I personally think it`s better than Zatch Bell in animation. As a matter of fact, I like One Piece better altogether.

BTW, Nate, The blue-haired girl isn`t a main character.

That episode had no action.

Oh and that cooking woman`s two assistants is one of thet hings I loathe about OP.

What I find most amusing is that on that thread, the people who liked the dub seemed to flame more than the people who liked the sub.

There were a couple of people who insulted the dub-likers, but the biggest response I saw from sub fans was, "If you like the dub, that's cool, but we don't, and we believe the dub to be a travesty to the show." The sub fans (overall, not every individual one) seemed to be more civil in stating their opinion.

I found that to be quite ironic, I must say.

Anyways, what I want to know is, if these kids hate the 4Kids dubs then why are they members of a 4kids forum?

Is the sub version more innapropriate? Is it called "Bikini?"

Sorry I had to get that lame pun off my chest.
