Give up anime watching?

If God told you that you had to give up all anime and manga stuff [including viewing] could you do it without fighting "tooth and nail"?

Honestly... I would be a bit hesitant at first... but I believe I will ultimately give it all up

Would I give up without fighting tooth and nail? I don't know. Six months ago, I probably would gave said "yes." Now, I think I would hesitantly give in.

But, having actually considered this very question myself, I've really decided that the only reason God would ask me to do this would be if it were hurting me in a way. Luckily, I neither let anime/manga control me or lead me into sin. So-- I'm not going to really think about the gory implications of this question. :lol:
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I'd probably question it a few times...simply because I do believe God has given my staff and I this ministry for a reason, but I think overall yes I would. I'm slow at obeying sometimes, but for the most part I follow through. Not much of a rebel. ^^

Good question. I regularly ask myself this type of questions every now and then.

Anime/Manga: Sure. I can live without anime and manga.
Drawing/Mangakaing: At one point, I would have (0_0);;ed but at this point, I've decided that I'll drop it. "Stop drawing? Man...that's tough but OK."

If Mave can't give those things up, she hasn't surrendered them to God, thinking that she has every right to do whatever she wants on what she never owned in the first place. So yeah...I generally maintain the mindset that God can take away anything I own so I don't get too attached to anything else.

Yeah, it wouldnt be too hard, as I hardly watch much anime to begin with. Theater on the other hand would be a hard thing to give up. I would like to think that I would give it right up, but I am weak.

I'd probably just play computer games instead. Actually, I might end up doing that, I'm only really following a couple of shows.

Nearly all my life since a child, I struggled with feeling like God wanted me to give up things. Now, I don't have as much of that since I'm older. (Not sure why. But I think God is helping me with those tortured feelings! XD)

And I have given up anime, manga, and TV, many things. But not now. I'm fairly sure I'd do it. The worst things would be losing the reality-escapes, and the conversations these interests grant me with friends and my brother.

I don't see why God would ask that but since I don't watch a lot of anime and manga I would survive without it, but I would prefer to have it.

It would have been harder a while ago but I barely watched any over the summer and God showed me that I have a life outside anime. But I do have the feeling that God wants me to use anime as a ministry somehow.

I think I'd have trouble, since I am quite obsessed with things that I like(video games, anime, manga, tv, internet) and I have a tendency to be stubborn about that sort of thing.

Yeah me too.Although I would also rather question if it was in fact
God that was doing the asking as I don't believe God is like that,unless
it was to get closer to Him and even then I would rather wonder if He
really wouldn't want me merely to be more moderate about it.

Ohhh man would it be hard!! But when it comes down to it, who do I love more? Anime or God. To keep anime when God asks me to take it out of my life would be like insulting Him. True, I'd be skeptical at first as to if it was really God telling me, but in the end I think I would do it, albeit very sadly. However, I'd be more sad and very guilty if I kept it.

On a smaller scale, instead of giving up anime God really convicted me this summer to trash all my licensed fansubs. I had really been warring about this for awhile and while I was at camp I REALLY got hit hard about it. So when I got home I got out all my fansub cds and snapped them all. AHHh it was SO hard T__T But it would have been worse if I had kept them. Dying to yourself hurts after all...
Anyway, after I did that I didn't watch much anime for awhile, and lo and behold I can live without it XD;;

If I was absolutely sure God was saying give Anime up I would in a heartbeat. I would do anything for God even if it meant walking across hot coals barefoot. Although I honestly don't think I'll have to worry about something like that! ^^;;;

I would, but I'd make sure that it is God talking first. I've done it before, and after sometime felt it was ok to go back in so long as I didn't make it into an obsession like I did before.

Last time I gave it up, it was rather tough but by God's grace He got me through it and has shown me how even though anime and manga are spiffy, there are alot of danger zones in them as well (as with any form of entertainment). Now that my eyes have been opened and made aware of these areas, I feel that I can walk safely along God's path He has for me and enjoy anime without being caught up into the obsession that originally had me tied down.

I think God tells us to do things sometimes out of proof of love and following. If we love Him enough we should be able to give up everything and anything. By doing this we proove we want to keep following Him and keeping clean. I gave up Anime before and then like Talame said, felt like it was alright to continue again. I think sometimes its the same kind of test (sometimes not as extreme) as God gave Abraham. He told him to kill Isaac, his son and Abraham was going to, to proof his love was greater for the Lord than anyone else. I could never love anybody more than I love Yeshua if I tried.

I would have to make sure it's God talking, and I would take the Berean approach and double-check it with the Bible, but if it passes that test, I would give it up and not look back.

However, since anime and manga are art forms, and not inherently sinful, there is no moral grounds for their prohibition.

Most Anime and Manga aren't gross spiritually but for some there is no exception.

I think the hardest Anime for me to give up would be Inuyasha. Man I would probably go into a coma without the usage of that series. Plus Takahashi Rumiko is so amazing with her work! She's so creative I think I would pass out if I tried to come up with half the things she has. @.@;;;
