Postby glitch1501 » Fri Nov 28, 2003 9:44 pm

i think this goes here.....
i need help, i have a site that has a splash screen, but i only want the user to see the splash screen once, also(i have a .tk address, so it always shows http://www.blahblahbblahb.tk) whenever a user hits refresh, it goes to the splash page...

can anyone please write me a cookie that will only allow the splash page to be viewed once, i have no cookie writing background, so it may be very simple, thank you, glitch

I think you'd be better off having two indexes and use a META Refresh to the 2nd one from your splash screen (Don't forget a manual link).

Your index.html would be your splash screen.... setup a refresh tag to tell the browser to switch over to the 2nd index after a set amount of time... and put a link at the bottom that can manually get them there if they have the refresh option turned off in their browser or if they don't want to wait (much like the screen that pops up here when you post a message or something).

The 2nd index (say... index2.html) would have your main page, menus, news, whatever.

using cookies will require you to write Javascript, and if someone is refusing cookies or has Javascript turned off it won't work.

ALWAYs have standard links on your web page that allow access to your site even if you're using some sort of JavaScript menu or what-not.

*hopes this doesn't count as a thread hijack*

Are there any good websites around that explain how cookies work? My complete lack of knowledge in this area of webdesign has always been a HUGE stumbling block for me.
