i've only seen the dubbed but i hate it. for the first 3 episdoes i cringed when i heard luffy speak and now i'm learning they changed Zoro's name and switched Sanji's cigaretes to a lollipop. I mean come on the kids are going to see ppl do it on TV heck i bet most of their parents smoke anway, they've already got it in their head's. Speaking about how much i hate the dubbed i would like to know if anyone knows where i can buy the original version online or in a store doesnt matter to me thx to all who helps me on that

Acceptable changes:

-Removing blood
-Removing vulgar language


Unacceptable changes:

-Super soakers and corkguns?! They're Marines, for crying out loud!
-Changing Marines to Navy. Do they think kids are too dumb to know what "Marines" are?
-Cigarette to lollipop and removing all cigars. Come on, I've seen plenty of kids shows with cigars in them, and it's not like they're trying to "encourage" it or anything. Plus, there are least three or more important characters who are shown with cigars, and when you remove it, you just end up staring and thinking "Why are they talking with their mouth open?"
-Pointless name changing, like Smoker to Chaser and changing all of Luffy's attacks simply because they have "gun" refrences, like Pistol, Gatling (was that changed?), Rifle, and Bazooka (BAZOOKA?! Why in the world would you change that?).
-Horrendously bad dubbing. Luffy's I can get use to, but what in the world is up with Usopp and Sanji's voices? If anything, Sanji should be French, not from Brooklyn.
-Cutting important Arcs. Cutting fillers is understanble, but the Little Garden Arc? You just dug your own grave, 4Kids...
-Changing the theme song. At first, I was fine with it, but after hearing the first two real ones, "We Are" and "Believe", that rap crap downright sucks.

Don't look at me I LOATH 4kids and their terrible and cheesy dubs. Hearing Pocket Monsters excellent voices being degrated to a raspy smoking voiced main character with annoying high pitched loony toons voices to follow made my eyes twitch. I thankfully haven't seen One Piece's dub, and I don't plan to either. Some things just don't have dubs worth mentioning, most things. Dubs I can tolerate and some even like would be:
InuYasha (I like Richard Cox, Moneca Stori, Kirby Morrow, Kelly Sheridan and Jillian's michaels as Shippou as the show carries on)
Trigun (Vash, Knives and Wolfwood were especially entertaining)
Lupin III (mainly for Zenigata's weird raspiness and always screaming voice, somehow this always seems to amuse me)
But One Piece? Pocket Monsters? Tokyo Mew Mew? No way can I handle those voices and changes to characters, it always goes from best (Japanese) to worst (4kids dubs) I would sooner commit suicide then watch one of these horrific demonic takeovers.

Strike one: Splicing half-a-dozen episodes into only one episode and removing entire story arcs. (which would likely have to be a first as far as anime dubs go...)

Strike two: Miscasting most of the voice acting, especially Usopp and Sanji.

Strike three: Replacing the opening with some terrible-sounding rap crap that barely counts as "music."

...and that doesn't even get into the pointless and bizarre edits that do nothing but waste time and money (changing the Marines to the Navy, etc.) and overdoing the violence and death-related edits. Heck, Shaman King dealt with plenty of ghosts/spirits/death. I still can't figure out why it got away with far more then One Piece has.

This is by far the worst dub in years, and it's certainly 4kids' worst dub job.

Sure it's horrendous, but it's extremely catchy. It's awesomely bad.

Sorry, beau99, but so far the only 4Kids dub I can STAND is Yu-Gi-Oh!, and I only watch that for Seto, not for anything else.

Luffy's voice is too CHILDISH for a freaking 17-YEAR-OLD BOY! He sounds 13!

Go download and watch the original One Piece opening themes, all 5 of them...
...they are far, far, far superior to an English rap that sounds like it was thrown together in all of 3 minutes.

Granted, I'm not very fond of raps in general, but even if I was, I assure you that I would strongly dislike that. I actually considered the Shaman King english theme catchy, but the One Piece one just grated on my ears. It's the only dub theme song that has caused me to turn down the volume or change the channel when it plays...

Also, I am far from a dub basher. I like dubs actually. However, 4kids has completely butchered One Piece past acceptable levels. If it was only content edits and a changed theme song that people had to worry about, then not as many would be complaining.

I was willing to give 4kids some benifit of the doubt when they announced the Shaman King/Yugioh uncut DVDs and hope that they might finally be trying to appeal to older fans. However, those uncut releases have since disappeared and appear to unlikely be continued. Now, after this One Piece fiasco...well...I doubt that they will ever try to go beyond their demographic of young kids.

Okay, I'm curious. I have never seen One Piece, nor had any particular desire to, but I will watch a dubbed episode of it for the sole purpose of judging it. Therefore, I will withhold my vote until I have made my judgement. I will have no clue what's going on, but that shouldn't have any bearing on determining whether the voices are good or not. XD

However, I will add comments on other things.

I dislike it greatly when, as you all have mentioned, multiple episodes get condensed into one. They did this with Sailor Moon, and I hated it.

Would you buy a copy of LOTR in which 50% of the pages were torn out? So then why would you watch an anime in which 50% of the scenes have been cut out? Or even more, if the six episodes combined into one statement is true.

Content edit, well, that kind of sucks, but...can't be helped, considering the cultural differences in our countries. Though I was surprised to hear Naruto yell out "I'll kill you!" on Naruto...I would've expected that line to be changed to "I'll stop you!" or "I'll destroy you!" or Dragonball Z's classic "Prepare to be sent to another dimension!" (which makes me chuckle every time I hear it...sorry, but to quote Crow from MST3K, "when you get blasted with an 80 point, Armor Piercing Energy Blast, you are dead, dead, dead!")

Anyway, I'll put up my opinion shortly.

I thought that Shaman King was fairly well done (other than a few wierd voices, like making Chinese guys British O.O ), then they brought out OP and everything went down hill. In fact, 4Kids in general sucks now.
I mean, it seems like they're aiming at the 8 year old female crowd, what with Winx CLub (ugh), Bratz (double ugh), and DoReMi. Well, there's also Mew Mew, but I kinda like that (despite what they did to it...).
