How do you pray?

Hoping this doesn't start any controversy, what counts as a prayer to you guys?

I've grown up with the fact that I need to open up a prayer with the sign of the cross. I seriously don't know if that's the same with you people; if it is, then I feel kind of silly.

I do that as well. But I'm Catholic. But I think that any kind of conversation with the Lord is prayer. =)

I think that talking to the Lord in any way is prayer. ^^ Usually when I pray I usually just close my eyes and talk to Him like I'd talk to anyone else.

I use the Lord's prayer as an outline or guide on how I pray. ( I don't acutally recite it)

Matthew 6:9-15
“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

I give thanks to God and for everything He has given me... I pray for others, pray that God help me forgive others and I pray for God to forgive me.
If we only pray for ouselves then it's quite selfish of us. I make it a personal thing... To me prayer is anything that gives thanks to the Lord or asks for help for either yourself and/or others. And as long as you mean it n your heart, then that's all that counts. No special or right way to go about it.

To me it doesn't matter as long as it is sincere and from the heart.

Not enough.

I'm not Catholic, so I don't do that with the cross. But when I was growing up I watched shows with nuns in them, and I thought the cross was cool! So I've done it a few times. Heh. n__n;;

Being Catholic, I also make the sign of the cross when I pray. I think it is a beautiful tradition and it sort of helps me focus my mind to prayer.

yay! it hasn't been locked yet! ^^ Well i think that a prayer is a conversation. It isn't just one way. You are having a conversation with God, your heavenly father. I don't think you have to do it any certain way, or recite something memorised. I think that a prayer should come from the heart, as a sincere praising of God for what he has done, thanking him, and then asking him to help you in the things you need help in and to bless those, and heal those who need healing, and help those that need his aid.

Gog already knows what is in our hearts, and what we are going to say before we say it. I think prayer should be reverant, but at the same time should be directed to God, and not said hurridly before a meal because it is a habit, and/or saying the prayer to the walls... and not really meaning the words coming out of your mouth.

I believe prayer is having a heartfelt conversation with God. For example: Telling him all your pains etc, asking for forgiveness, thanking him for salvation and for being God. Really anything where God is the focus and your talking to him from the heart.
I'm Lutheran. Most of the time I close my eyes and fold my hands when I pray, but that's not always the case. Prayer is from the heart!

My version of prayer is singing along to some Christian music.

And I don't mean worship music either.

I just talk to him. Sometimes I give a more traditional-style prayer for meals and the like, but my best praying is when God and I just talk.
