This movie looks awesome! It's directed by Makoto Shinkai (the same person who made Voices of a Distant Star...which I have yet to see :sweat: ). I've probably seen the trailer at least five times now :lol:. Has anyone else heard of it?

Yay! 100 posts! :)

I have the movie. I was really really looking forward to it and stuff... and it kinda wasn't what i expected. o_o

I mean it was REALLY AWESOME... It was just different than what I had pictured xD I'm so weird. But yah its still pretty good. I can't remember any language, but there was this one part where they showed the girl undressing and you saw her in her bra. It was TOTALLY unecessary e_e; Anyway. I had heard that the ending was sad too.... but I didn't think it was sad. o_o I mean... no one died. e_e;

I saw this one and, actually , wrote a review for it. While lacking some clinched elements in the story, the art more than made up for it, IMHO.

And Yeito, I know what you mean about people viewing the ending one way and you seeing it another. I, too, didn't see the ending as sad at all, but I think the reason why some people thought it was was that
some people think that she died at the end. I know, I don't really understand it entirely, but it's something about how, as you know, at the end she couldn't remember what she had wanted to say. They view this as some sort of a sign that she's "fading", or something to that effect. I don't really completely understand it and I definitely don't agree with it-- but that's how you might see the movie as sad.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. I didn't feel it had the emotional impact that Voices amazingly carried in it's short run time, but it was still good. I would have to say I enjoyed this one more when I viewed it for a second time. A lot of what I missed the first time around was a little more apparent when I rewatched it.

I thought the film was beautiful; yes, different than Voices, but then if his goal was to make it have the same effect, he would've dones so. There have been very few anime that have actually affected me in a deeply personal sense beyond the immediate viewing experience, but I'm happy and moved to say that this is one of them (the others being RahXephon, Voices, and the Samurai X OVAS). The message of love, friendship, loyalty, and the simple strength and beauty that is at the foundation of friendship couldn't have been expressed more poetically or sweetly. I highly recommend this film, and will continue to recommend Shinkai's work so long as his heart and work is dedicated to works such as this :-)

You know, I remember this same thread and back then I said I was going to watch it soon. Still, I have yet to watch it. It's been about one month since I bought it and the dvd is still in the shrink wrap. I want to see it so bad, but it's just finding the time...

The visuals look really appealing too. Okay, next off day! I'm writing this down... "IT WILL BE WATCHED!"

LOL. I've had a manga book I bought three months ago that I still haven't read. I take it to school with me everyday and I just dont get around to reading it. xD

Yah. o_o I kinda took what you said in the spoiler up there that she just...
forgot that she loved him. But I always assumed that she would just re-learn to love him. Ya know? .-.
But yah. xD; I'm weird.

That's how I took it too, Yeito. Actually, I really thought
she still loved him, but she forgot, specifically, what she was going to say.
