Would you marry an older person?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Michael » Sat Sep 03, 2005 6:33 am

If I she were maybe a year or two older than me, I think it'd be OK. But much more and I probably wouldn't consider it. I'm not really thinking so much of romance (that's not the why you should seek a marriage), but practical marriage-wise, it'd be too wierd.

Simply awesome. I'm curious...do you guys ever get raised eyebrow sort of reactions when they find out he's five years younger?

I'm partially suprised at the number of guys who seem to be uncomfortable with the idea of marrying a girl more than two years his senior. But then again, I'm partiallly not. It's something that we grow up with as being "acceptable".

I guess I'm different. Almost all of the women in my family are older than their husbands, so the idea of being attracted to/married to a guy a few years younger doesn't phase me TOO much, unless I do the whole "When I was a senior in high school he was _______" thing. I'm personally very attracted to guys who are a little younger than I am and have been known not to express much interest in men older than me. I could probably deal with someone the SAME age as me, but I don't think older. That's mainly due to the difference in interests...there aren't many 24 and up guys (around here, anyway) with the same interests that I have. If it were up to ME, I wouldn't marry someone older than I am, but it's not up to me. It's up to God. God ultimately knows the person who would make my heart melt, and I wouldn't let age get in the way of such a wonderful opportunity.

I've always been more comfortable with the idea of dating/marrying someone at least slightly older. Even a few months younger made me feel uncomfortable. o_O

10 years? Nooooo. 1-3? Ideal.

But life doesn't always go according to plan and selfish expectations. :P And that's often a very good thing.

The preference for an older guy is from wanting someone I can look up to, respect, feel safe with, and trust, I think.

But obviously people born after me can fill that role too.

Still, the stereotypes and expectations I've been surrounded by in my upbringing stay with me, even if it's only the knee-jerk first impression-type reaction to a thought.

But if I love him, and he loves me, and it's right, there's no way I'm going to refuse to date/marry someone who just happened to be born after me by a little. Life experiences mold maturity and personality more than just simple age, anyway.

The same is true for a man who's older. I *would* worry a little bit more about being alone in my last years if he was significantly older (more than 5 years), but that's about it, I think.

Sure, I don't see why not. If there was a connection (spiritually, emotionally and etc), I have no problem. I know many married couples that have at least a 5-8year difference in age and they are still happily married after many many years.

So yeah, I would consider it.

hmm...only if the guy is 3 weeks and 3 days older than me. *cough*swordguy*cough* :P
seriously though...even before I met him I didn't really want to marry anyone with more of a five year difference ahead...or one year behind me.

Hmm... I don't think I would consider marrying someone that's older than me. I may just be a victim of circumstance, though.

Only if said older woman was Amanda from Highlander! :lol:
Ok,to be serious for once,no.Although the woman I marry will end up
marrying someone 25 to 30 years older than her.I mean the way it
appears to me to be is that my best chance would be with someone
who was at least 25 years younger than me or perhaps 22 years
younger.
I don't know when I'll find Miss Right so it may be that she will be somewhere between 25 to 30 years younger.

Hrrm... Does 136 years older than me count? *coughKnives-samacough* *blush*

Ahem, but anyway, to answer completely, yeah, I'd consider it. But it would have to depend on how much older.

And besides, he isn't physically 151!! ><;

For the sake of your peace and quiet, I wouldn't suggest looking too broadly in the other direction, either. ;)

But personally, I would never want to marry someone older than I am unless she's hot
Seriously, though, I would expect that I'd end up with someone a little bit younger than myself, but not too much. A little older is okay, but not as far as the other direction.

Yeah, I wouldn't have a problem marrying someone 3-4 years older than me. But when it gets too much above that...Well, it would depend on God and Love in both cases. So it really depends!

It seems like most of the girls would like to be married to someone older than them and most of the guys to gals younger than said people. Anyway for me I'd be most comfortable with someone that's about the same age as me...I'd say about four years either way. But I don't really care if I get married or not...I'd be fine with being single the rest of my life.

Well, my parents are 5 years apart, and it doesn't make that much difference when you're older, but in High School when one person is a Junior and the other like, ...a 7th grader, that's a huge difference. I might consider being with an older person, but not too old ;3 . I like em' young and fresh. ^_^;

I'm not really picky on the subject. I actually wouldn't mind someone older or younger than me.

Eh, I have the disturbing habit of crushing on old hollywood actors (i.e. 51-years-old, EEK!). But I think it would weird me out if a guy was more than 5 or 6 years older than me in a real-life relationship. Frankly, I have an easier time relating to guys that are a couple of years younger than me, in an idiotic goofy way. Actually dating someone younger would be weird, since they'd be my baby brothers age. But guys my own age and older tend to intimidate me, so it's all terribly confuzzling.

I believe my answer is 'maybe', tho' I'm not sure if that's on the poll.
