What Denomination are you?

Talk about anything in here.

For example, when I was younger my mom took us to a non-denominational church for a time. The "church" had more in common with the New Age Movement than with Christianity, and there were sermons on things like Astrology, God as "father-mother," and all sorts of crazy things (nothing on the Bible, oddly enough).

Of course there are a lot of good non-denominational churches, but there are also some really bad ones. Granted, that is also true in the major denominations, but at least in the organized groups there is some degree of accountability and oversight beyond the walls of the individual church.

Our church just chose to be non-denomintional because, while our teaching does have some leanings toward certain denominations we don't want to necessarily be affiliated with any particular denomination; we just want to follow what the Bible says and try not to have division among our members over the little stuff that doesn't really matter in the end. :thumb:

RPNA

Reformed Presbitry of North America.

http://www.reformedpresbytery.org/ and there's only one pastor in the whole thing and several societies in Canada and America.

The Reformed Presbytery in North America (RPNA) testifies that Christ and our Solemn Covenant with God call us to "one reformed religion" in our lands. The fundamentals of that reformed religion were compiled by the assembly at Westminster in 17th century Britain. No sincere Christian can be content with 'agreeing to disagree' with his brother, when the Spirit of God beseeches us to "all speak the same thing". Through the superb sermons, writings, and shed blood of these faithful forefathers, they cry out to this generation of a thousand denominations, that we have slidden back from the purity of doctrine, life, worship, church government, and civil government to which they attained. It is this purity that the RPNA endeavors, by the grace of our Lord, to once again set before the world. The same example of "real reformation; that the Lord may turn away his wrath and heavy indignation, and establish these churches and kingdoms in truth and peace (Solemn League and Covenant)."

Also known as Reformed Presbityrians and/or Calvinists (also based upon Martin Luther and John Knox, only Luther to a little less of a degree.) (even Hyper Calvinists, but that's a lie). "The oddballs that believe in predestination."

We believe in baptism, even for infants because under stanfing comes from God, but we know that it doesn't save. Communion is a closed table. Those who pass the exam can partake of the Lord's supper. And guess what? We use real wine just like Jesus did. And we also believe...hmm... what ever the Bible says, as it's God breathed. Our documents really just reitterate what the Bible all ready says.

For the most part, I'm a Baptist. But I've occassionly gone to a non-denomintional ones too. Though when people ask me I usually reply, "I read the bible and put my faith in it and Christ." I don't necessarily like to categorize myself because to put my faith in Christ and His Word is more fitting for me.

I personally am Non-denominational, but I go regularly to a Pillar of Fire (a rare denomination) church and occasionally to a baptist church. I chose to remain ND because I'd rather remain bound to the Bible alone and not to any other foreign doctrine written by man (and thus potentially flawed). I also lean moreso to the calvinist side of things, if you can consider calvinism vs. arminianism a denomination.

I go to a Brethren In Christ church, but I really don't know if that's a denomination or just a web of congregations. All I know is it's very grace-centered. Whatever I "am", the important thing is I know who saved my soul, I know God doesn't condemn anime fans, and no legalistic, street-preaching bible-thumper can tell me I'm wrong.

Perhaps I should put in my usual caveat and state that denominational affiliation does not preclude or prohibit independent thought, sound biblical interpretation, Christian compassion or giving candy to children.

I go to an Alliance church. Christian & Missionary Alliance. As you can tell by the name, there's a lot of focus on missions. There's also the fact that quite a few of the Chinese churches in Toronto are Alliance churches.

I'm with, as the Nicene creed puts it, the "one holy catholic and apostolic church", which today consists of the Roman Catholics, Greek and other nationality's Orthodox church, and the the Protestant churches. At present I attend a local Baptist and a local Vineyard church, and am considering at Jeikobu's recommendation to give Roeh Israel a shot, particularly since I revel in the thought of honoring both the true Sabbath and the Lord's Day, though I fear the reputed heavy latching on of the Dispensational-Premillenialist system among the Messianic Jews, possibly even more than Western fundamentalism, may leave me to be an anathema to the congregation, although then again I fear this from every assembly I attend for my doctrines within orthodoxy, due to my Postmillenial Preterism in this case.

Curious, with your constant support of the untenable position of soul sleep I would have imagined you to be with the Seventh Day Adventists.

I'm from a South African Dutch Calvanist denomination. We go by many names - Gereformeerd being the most common official name and "Doppers" being the slur given to us by the other churches which we are using ourselves in a none-detrimental way.

Haha Yea i totally agree. When people have asked me in the past.. i was unsure how to respond.. so i just say believe in the trinity... and i believe in the Word of God[bible]. I dont claim any denomination so i never know how to respond because just cuz i go to a certain church doesnt make me that denomination. :thumb:

Pentecostal, but I really hate the whole division-by-denominations thing. Thankfully several different churches in my area have come together and are having services together every now and then. Pentecostals and Baptists and others all under one roof, it makes me happy. :)

I am a member of a Church of Christ/Christian Church (Not to be confused with the United Church of Christ or the Non-Instrumental Church of Christ, although the non-instrumentalists share a common history).

Anyway, my theology has also been influenced by Wesleyan philosophy as my father is a United Methodist minister and I am generally comfortable in any church setting.

I've attended services in Christian, United Methodist, Pentecostal, Catholic, and Nazarene churches and have felt pretty comfortable with the basic doctrine of each. I have never completely agreed with any church I attend, but that’s OK. I am a disciple of Christ first, a member of a denomination second. Think and let think, as Wesley would put it.

We should agree on Biblical absolutes and should engage in healthy debate to shape, teach, and learn from each other on matters left up to interpretation.
