For example, when I was younger my mom took us to a non-denominational church for a time. The "church" had more in common with the New Age Movement than with Christianity, and there were sermons on things like Astrology, God as "father-mother," and all sorts of crazy things (nothing on the Bible, oddly enough).
Of course there are a lot of good non-denominational churches, but there are also some really bad ones. Granted, that is also true in the major denominations, but at least in the organized groups there is some degree of accountability and oversight beyond the walls of the individual church.
Our church just chose to be non-denomintional because, while our teaching does have some leanings toward certain denominations we don't want to necessarily be affiliated with any particular denomination; we just want to follow what the Bible says and try not to have division among our members over the little stuff that doesn't really matter in the end.
