How to you get over arachnophobia?

I'm looking for serious suggestions.

I don't want to keep having this.

Take charge, get a newspaper(or something) and kill them. Once you get a feeling of superiority, you'll probably lose you fear (at least somewhat).

I have been wondering this myself.. I am SERIOUSLY afraid of spiders.. I see one on or near me, and I CRY! I am serious... Those things are...just...creepy!!

I think bug-spray should take care of it.. See a spider..and coat it with white foam! ^_^

I hate spiders to, I don't cry but I usually start to look for a nice huge shoe to smash it's creepy little bum with.
Don't feel bad anyone, I have plenty of phobias to go around.
I Forget the name but fear of spiders
fear of snakes (except Gardesnakes there fine)
Verdigo: (I am the queen of being afraid of heights, I feel like I might throw up and the room spins like a disco ball. This is usually when I fall on my knees and start to crawl because the ground seems sway back and forth like a ship. I am SO afraid of heights!)
I have a lot more but for some reason I'm having a hard time remembering. Most of these I have overcome with God's help, but others like Verdigo I am still having a very hard time to get over. -.-

Hahaha! I did that once...My house smelled like Raid for about a week, and it pretty much ruined the hard wood floor....But the spider died!! Yes, yes it did...And I didn't stop spraying until it was good and DEAD! It was really big, too...::shiver:: Yeah, but I use a shoe or a yardstick now...It doesn't smell as bad, haha!

A good way to avoid them is to live in a bubble. You would never have to worry about that again. Though you may have trouble moving around; espically outside.

The insect I hate the most are cockroaches. If I see one I have to kill it. On occasion I've moved all my funiture around just to catch the roach. Smash! Once when I was young I slammed a phone book on one then started to jump on it for like 30 sec. Lifted up the book and it wasn't crushed, just ran really fast. :shady:

The secrete is to us a quick motion when hitting it.

Oh yeah, the spider thing... forgot that was the topic :P Sorry.
To be honest I don't know how one would get over a fear like that.... I would probably just invest in a really long fly swatter. That way you still keep your distance.

My favorite is using my brother's shoe. It nails the spider like a hammer. I do recommend not using a hammer because it could make your home's appearance like swiss cheese. If it's a huge spider, sometimes what I do is grab a clear glass jar, preferably one that has a lid, and when you see one, careful place the jar over it and it usually will speed around and rest on the bottom. Then carefully and quickly put the lid on (don't freak) and when you get to your sink splash it with water and watch it fall down the drain crippled. Or if it makes you feel better flush him down the toilet. Oh yes and if you trap a spider and he doesn't move, firmly push down (don't break the jar) and scrap it acrossed the floor, usually this will smear him or make him scurry around in a panic.
If this is to risky for you that's all right. Stick to the shoe, spray or fly swatter technique. As long as the thing is dead it doesn't matter what maneuver or death products you use. God gave us dominion over all the creatures of the earth, every that creepth on the earth remember? Don't worry about it, just kill it. My best weapon for those sorts of things is that they are usually more scared of you than you are of them.

Oh, you're so awful, lol.

I'd like to know the answer to this too. I know some psychiatrists will suggest prolonged exposure to spiders, starting off small and moving up to something big.

Yup, or with fake plastic spiders, and then going on to watching real ones, and then to having real ones nearby. That would seem a logical progression.

get a paper towel, put it over the spider

then get windex, febreeze, or some other cleaner thing or something

and spray the spot where the bug is

then call a your mom or dad or brother to clean it up for you

thats what I do

I have a suggestion if you don't wanna squish them: use one of them zappers that look like a tennis raquet! They're tons of fun and you fry them and then shake them up instead of making a gutty mess :/ It kills most kinda bugs and yeah my friend (cause he's tall) even got this huge spider off the ceiling. Just press the button, hold up to the spider, ZAP, and dead^^

Yeah I hate spiders. Not as much as I used to though (bad woodpile experience started it :/ Moral: DON'T GO NEAR WOODPILES IF YOU FEAR THEM! The biggest of the big live there v_v) Right now I saw all spiders should die, but the big ones are still creepy^^ Like them house/wolf spiders. Tarantulas though don't bug me cause they walk somewhat slowly :/ Werid, huh?

Another solution: I have an indoor kitty and if she's downstairs I see many dead spidies laying around (big ones too!) She's a good wittle kitty^^

Usually, I just run away from spiders until they go away. Out of sight, out of mind right?

But if I have to, I squish them. I won't even touch the big ones though; I get bad images of a juicy bubble being popped with the guts and ew...that's when I get a parent to do it.

I can't do it either. I usually send Comet after them. She usually does nothing. Some attack kitty she is! I usually end up having to get my dad to take care of it. I'm really scared of Spiders. Once I went to check my mail and I went back to my apartment and there was a HUGE Black and Red spider on the door with its legs close to its body. It was larger then a Quarter. I was so terrified I couldn't go in my apartment. The matience man happened by luckily and got rid of it for me.

Aversion thearapy is what Dragonshimmer is talking about.

I don't like leave spiders around the house because then I always wander where they went, their still alive and could be crawling somewhere around the house, creepy yes. Especially at nighttime I have the strangest thoughts that a spider might crawl on me and bite me in the middle of the night. Don't worry about this though everyone, almost always this is just in your head, especially when you have such a huge fear of spiders like me.

I know! My cat (perpare for disgusting details) pulls big spiders out our downstairs sink and starts and eat them! I tell him not to but in truth in some ways I'm glad he did because I frankly do not ever want to kill one! ^^]Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Tarantula.

I'm not afraid of tarantulas, either. ^^ My youngest brother had one for awhile, and at first I was a little bit nervous, but he always kept it in the cage. And, when he changed the cage, I used to watch -- and that thing sure was afraid of hands. ^^;;

Well, I used to be EXTREMELY arachnaphobic, and I still am a good bit, but it's a little better now. See when I was working at camp sometimes these REALLY big ones would get into the cabin, and as soon as all the little 11 year old girlys would see it they would all scream and panick and start running into eachother and stuff. Anyways, I would be the one who came in and said, "Girls, come on now, it's just a spider," when inside I was going "AAAAAAAUUUGHH!! SPIDER!!!!!!!!! KILL IT!!!!!" And then I would calmly smash it with some solid object that happened to be near by. Handling it and pretending to be brave about it made it a little better, and whilst I am still terrified of them it did seem to make me a little less overall fearful of them. . . somehow. Anyhow, don't know if that helps AT ALL, but it's just a little of my personal experience for ya! ;)

I don't have a big phobia of spiders, but one times I saw a garden spider crawling around on the living room floor and I wapped it with my shoe and thousands of itty biity garden spider babies practically flushed out of the big one and started to swarm.

I-freaked-out.

I went into the kitchen and got the most toxic spray I could find and eradicated the invasion.

Other than that I'm not really afraid of spiders. Its scorpions I can't stand. I live in Texas, and although I havn't seen one this year, I know they are in good supply. One time, when I was ready to fall asleep, I saw a scorpion crawling on me in my bed. It was right on top of my bedsheets, wear my abdomon was so I just flung the covers over, got my shoes on, and stamped the living crud out of him.

It took me some while to get to sleep after that.

I heard that when you in Texas you often have to shake your shoes out before putting them on because a scorpion could be hiding in one of your boots and if you put it on- well you know. My dad lived in Texas for a while and actually had a heat stroke there, now whenever he's in the sun to long he could passout or become very sweaty and dehydrated. I hate spiders. I never ever could handle a truantula. They are so disgusting I think the moment I touched one my skin would break out into hives and I would faint. I've gone to butterfly pavilions before (twice I think, boy was it hot!) and something on a door said "Pet a Truantula" My first reaction was to make a face and then quickly speed off so I couldn't let myself think of the details. I got away obivously but some pretty nasty thoughts were still swishing around in my head. I'm kind of a chicken when it comes to insects and other things that creep around, but I certainly would smash it in an instance if I had too. I think i would probably freak under the influnce of a giant glack, yellow, you name it scorpion. They are SO creepy looking, I've never been to texas or incountered one before but my dad sure has some gross stories to tell if the subject were to come up.

Aside from moving to Antarctica probably the best thing to do is to
do some research on archnids and study up on the subject. The simple and best way of overcoming any fear is just to learn about it.
Also I suggest visiting the zoo and other places where you might find
spiders.
As far as homegrown type go,instead of just bashing them over the head or
spraying them to death try to pick one up and take a careful look at it as
you carefully escort it out of doors.
Remember spiders are our friends they do a lot of good.

Try watching the movie "Arachnophobia." That'll so expose you to spiders you'll be cured.

EDIT: If you want something helpful; well, just try not to think about it too much. It takes a lot of self-control, but it might just do the trick.

all i can say for those of u that are truly fear bound by spiders is to pray and ask God to give u peace when u are around them, when God is present, fear cannot be, the hightened alertness that we often precipitate into fear is the result of dwelling too much on those things that set us off, we have in us the sense to beware of certain things in nature for a reason, we beware of snakes, spiders, and other creepy crawly things because many of them can be harmful to us in one form or an other, so my advice is to just give them their space, but when they invade yours, it's SPLAT!!! time

hope this helps

Unfortunately, I think I'd have to argue that point.

Kazekami, the spider you described earlier sounds very much like a black widow. *shudder*
