~How do you read your Bible?~

At night when you are going to read ... or in the morning or whenever... how is it you choose whatyou should read?

Do you : Just open it and say " here is a good vrs" or Stay on a topic " I like heaven.. what are all verses about heaven" or soo on.

I usually read it at night but I chose a book of the bible and work through it. Currently I'm at Hosea. I also like Daniel and Job - but I do the Gospels frequently as well.

I read the way KisaTohru does, and like bigsleepJ, I am up to Hosea too. Actually I skipped Ezekiel and Daniel coz I recently read Daniel and wanted to do Hosea before I went back to Ezekiel.

I'm currently reading through acts before i go to bed, and studying on charecteristics of leadership in the bible at odd times in the day. Before i was studying psalms before bed and and in depth in romans att odd times. However, occasionally i'll just flip and skim to find somthing i havent read about before.

It really depends on the day. Usually I'll open up a random book and just read. Though sometimes if it also depends on the mood. If I need inspiration or to feel better, I usually end up reading the Book of Psalms. If I more insight into a certain topic then I would read another book (or story) that talks about it. But usually, I have no real order in which I read The Bible. It's pretty random.

I try to read one chapter in the morning and one at night. Right now I'm in Song of Solomon. Kewl book; not only does it show the loving relationship between God and the church, but all the awesome pickup-lines are in there. Telling a woman that her teeth are like a flock of sheep in which not one is baren and all give birth to twins just makes her want to melt, I wager.

some reason, I perfer reading the new testament more than the old testament.... I'm weird. I like the gospels, but also equally love the letters and such

Same here. I also like Psalms and Proverbs. I tend to jump around reading different stuff though...I need to read the Bible aaaaall the way through one of these days, without skipping XD (though I'm fairly sure I've read it all, just out of order)

I use a nice daily devotional published by my alumni association. It is a walk through the Bible and has a section that talks directly about the portion of scripture you read for the day and then a practical application. I love it. This is my 3rd year using the same kind of guide, so I've read (mostly! ) through the Bible 3x times now! I've been a Christian for many years, but this is the first time I've been able to do the "walk through the Bible in a year" even though I've meant to do it for a long time. Having a little practical devotional guide to follow has helped me a lot!

I read it from begining to end. over and over. Everyonce in a while I'll just close my eyes open te book and read the first passage I land on.

I study the Bible in a number of different ways, but the question here deals more with schedules and styles than approaches. The time of day mostly doesn't matter to me. Overall, I do two different styles of Bible reading. One is reading through a book or so and interpreting its meaning, etc, etc. The other is when I have a specific issue that I try to look up in context and figure out.

There is also a technical third style, which is when people quote scripture in their arguments against me/anyone.

WHen i posted this thread it had nothing to do with time period... i just put that in so sticklers wouldnt be like " Well I read it at night / I read it in the morning"> Time didnt matter to me just how you choose to read.

I've listened to parts of the Bible on tape. It's awesome. Easier than reading. Although I have to be careful not to let my attention wander.... It is also calming to listen to when you need to sleep, in my experience. Although I haven't listened to it much lately. Perhaps I should get back to it....

If I had a job that required extremely long trips, I would do this; it's a rather good idea. As I don't, definitely not. Reading is far faster, yet can be slowed if a passage is difficult to fully understand. Furthermore, I like text/translation notes.

Well, though I have had some trouble choosing books after finishing, my recommendation is with a pen and a note book! Seriously, when I do that, I tend to really think about things, and start writing notes, and that's when I get the most out of it. Alternatively, a shorter version is with coloured pencils and a pencil - if you don't like makring your bible you could just photocopy the pasage you want to read and get into and mark that. Then use a colour coded system every time you read, and make short pencil notes.

Besides the King James my three perferred versions to read are:
New American Standard
Revised Standard Version
New Enlgish Bible
I especially love the NEB since it is highly readable and they lay out
the sections in paragraphs just like a regular book.Plus the Psalms and
other poetry sections are actually printed like poems.
This includes a good deal of the Prophectic books of the OT.

My favorite kind of Bible is King James. Whenever I read my Bible I try to look through God's eyes instead my own. I ask Him to help me to understand His word and receive guidance from Him before I start to read it. I really should pick a book in the Bible but at night it just seems to fall open to the spot where I need help from. I love it when God does that because obviously there is no way I could ever find the spot on my own. I have to have complete silence when I'm reading the Bible because this is the only point of the day that my brain works its absolute hardest to even obtain one drop of purification. Some parts of the Bible are easier than others to read. The book of Revalations has been the hardest yet for me to understand. But when I read my Bible I see God and everything happening as if it was happening right before my eyes. When I read my Bible I feel wiser that night than I did the other day or just that morning. I hope this doesn't sound stupid and exaggerated...^^;;; I just feel like I have a very close spiritual walk with God everyday no matter where I am and that brings me unspeakable comfort and joy.
