By visiting "The Bible Site" on the Internet you can click a button that
will send a scripture portion to a persecuted Christian, funded completely
by sponsors of the site.

The success of this exciting campaign depends upon as many Christians as
possible visiting "The Bible Site" and encouraging others to do the same.
As more people visit and make free donations, awareness will be raised
about Christian persecution and thousands of Bibles will be provided to
our suffering brothers and sisters worldwide.

Visit "The Bible Site" right now by clicking on the link below, and then
notify your friends and contacts about this critical effort to get Bibles
into the hands of those who really need them by forwarding this email.

It's a simple, easy and free way to make a real difference!

I'm somewhat confused about this practice. I have no problem in making more aware of the fact that many face persecution for their faith around the world today. And of course I would never object to the distribution of Scriptures to people. The problem I have is the fact that they obviously have the Scriptures available, they know where they need to be sent, however, they are going to withhold them unless or until someone visits their website. I find that somewhat counterproductive when we are commanded by Christ to be proactive in his commission. It just makes me a little uneasy as to what is actually taking place here.

Just a guess but I imagine it works something like this - Sending Bibles to people costs money. The money comes from sponsors. Sponsors however, are only going to sponsor something if they get publicity - it's a trade - you advertise us, and we pay you money for it - then the money gets used for the Bibles.

Now, the sponsors are only going to advertise where they will get good publicity therefore, the website asks people to visit - if it can maintain a certain number of hits, then ti can show itself to be a website with good traffic, and there's a good likelihood that the sponsoring businesses will get seen.

No?

EDIT: Nope. I was wrong. How it works

Apparently it's more of a goodwill thing. A sponsor agrees to donate one Bible (money) for every one visit to the website (and a click on the button). Therefore, the more clicks, the more Bibles get sent. Kind of like a sponsored run where a sponsor says they'll give one dollar for every mile run or whatever.

like google ads, I'm sure that they track which IPs do it and how often, and if you do it too often they block you from contributing.
