Guys: Girls with Long Hair?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Stephen » Sun Aug 28, 2005 10:50 pm

I don't really care either way. It really depends on the girl. Some can look good with either, some look better with one or the other. But, to be honost...as I found with the regret I had after I cut mine off....do what YOU want. Don't worry about what other people will say or think about your hair. At the end of the day, its your hair...and it should make you happy how you have it.

I understand that feeling. My pictures with long hair look bad. my hair was all frizzy. I like it short and out of my ears.

My own preferences tend toward the longer side (not too long), but, like Shatterheart said, it depends on the girl.

As Ikimasu said, it depends on the personality.

Adding to that, it depends on how you style it. Sometimes someones hair just does not go with either their personality or clothing. (imagine someone in a suit with spiked hair o.o )

Your mom might've said 'guys like girls with longer hair' cause maybe that was the IN style of her age. She grow up in the 60s?

I don't think that applies anymore these days.

Ok... My opinion:

It's not the length, but the style... Some styles only look good on some girls, and some styles don't look good on any girl... My favorite styles are pony tails, usually braided... I like a variety of hairstyles (on girls) but those are my favorites...

Hmm... I tend to prefer styled hair to long, loose hair... There are reasons to , say, want bobby pins out (I won't get into that) but for the most part, styled hair beats loose hair in girls... It may be the same with guys, but I just stink at styling my hair, so I usually let it either go style-less(sp?), or just gel it and shake it around. Since the topic is girls, then this is a hairstyle that NEVER works, it didnt even work in the 80's: Bouffant... Eeew... Actually most "big hair" is stupid. Eew eew eew eew eew eew eew eew eew eew eew eew eew...

I don't know, but my mother adores my brown hair, which resembles a...mane...like a lion's mane or a wolf's mane...it's ultra-wavy and, near the ends, ultra-curly...are guys attracted to mane-like hair? I don't know, and I don't care all that much. But my mother seems to like it.

I agree with Mr. Smarty Pants (and Kaorin--the one from Azumanga Daioh), "Sakaki's cool." And I think women look far cuter with hair at least down to their shoulderblades, if not longer (like Sakaki--although that's almost impossible to find in an American girl).

That said, while there are other things that matter besides appearances, the subject IS, after all, what guys find attractive.

I don't care either way (my preference is for curly hair ;) ). As others have said, different hair styles look better on different people. I would think that wearing your hair in the way that you think looks best would be the wisest course; after all, if you want someone to fall in love with the "real you," then it would seem best to stick with what comes naturally.

Well shiver me little cotton socks right off! I'm actually amazingly surprised by the comments on this thread. Every time, and I mean every time, this question has come up the majority answer has always been a resounding 'Yes - We like long hair'. I know that personally I love long hair. I remember on a trip to Israel, a local school put on a concert and as one of the instrumentalists walked out every guy watched her, she had a braided pony-tail all the way down her back to almost her legs. The hair was in good condition and she looked stunning. Admittedly, a girl's hair doesn't have to be that long to be stunning, but there is, to many I know, something very attractive and very feminine about long hair. I guess the dividing line between long and short is shoulder length.

I find it's not a matter that girls don't look attractive with shorter styles, they can and do look attractive that way, it's just that long hair is more attractive. And in all things, it should be well looked after.

I've done it all. For the first 13 years of my life I had it really long, but since I have had horse-thick hair, I finally got absolutely sick of it and chopped it to my chin. After that point, it was an endless cycle of growing it to my shoulder blades and then chopping it short and full of layers. Right now, it's shoulder length-ish. What I will do after this point, I knoweth not.

For that reason, I'm glad that there's mixed opinions amongst our Christian men about hair length.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

These verses in Corinthians really opened my eyes. I think long hair is what women were made for, or rather, the other way around.

1 Corinthians 11:14-16 (English Standard Version, because I've stopped using other translations. It's pretty good, check it out.)

"Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God."

Yeah, but maybe it was a cultural thing at the time. I heard that at that time...
long hair on men meant you were a gay prostitute
so that would be why long hair was particularly *not* for upstanding men to have.

There could be a real, spiritual reason for women to *have* to have long hair, but I've known spiritually deep women with short hair, and I don't think God held it against them.

Anyway I just wonder if it may have been a cultural thing, and it's okay to have short hair on women now. Like wearing pants is now acceptable on women, and not some sign of cross-dressing or something.

I don't want to start an argument over guys with long hair, suffice it to say the verse says 'nature itself.' And I take that literally. I don't think it's right for men to have long hair and that's my belief.

The reasons for women to have long hair are very Biblical, observe:

1 Corinthians 11: 2-5

"But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is the same as if her head were shaven."

Paul sets up the relationship between man and wife and then how a men pray and how women pray. You've seen men take their hats off to pray, right? Well that goes back to this verse. But do you see women cover their head to pray? Not often, and I think that's something that should be addressed more. Paul goes on to say that a women dishonors herself if she shaves her head.

1 Cor. 11: 5-10

"For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels."

Again Paul shows how a women (or wife) can dishonor her head by shaving it. If she is to pray and to have long hair, then she should wear a covering like a hat. He also goes into more depth on how a man should pray with his head uncovered, so as not to defile it. He then shows the relationship between man and women; women are the glory of men. And that is the key to why women should have long hair, it is a symbol of authority.

1 Cor. 11:11-12

"Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God."

Paul was a smart man; he anticipated that some would challenge him for his view of women. He clearly sets men and women together so that they can't be seperated. Women came from man, and now men come from women.

1 Cor. 11:13-14

"Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him,"

And this is were it gets tricky; Paul is blatant when he says 'nature itself.' He doesn't say 'culture' or 'politics' or anything else, and I believe him. He says 'nature itself.' To paraphrase Martin Luther, "My conscience is convicted by God: Here I stand, I can do no more."

1 Cor. 11:15-16

"but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God."

And this is the crux of the matter; long hair on a women is to her glory. If she is married, she wears the symbol not only as a symbol of authority, but also as a symbol of protection. A man finds sexual protection in his wife. Paul also shows his forsight again by challenging the contentious and the argumentative. He knew this would be something that would be fought over, and thanks to God, we have the truth through His word so that no man can contradict it.

I hope this helps someone, but Sola Deo Gloria.

I don't agree with that logic, Michael, for one very good reason. You quote the verses in Corinthians as if they are commands to not have long hair, but that would mean that you believe this, too:

34 ...women should be silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as the law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. - 1 Corinthians 14:34-35

Since you quoted other verses in Corinthians that say long hair is bad and that is your justification, should I also assume that you believe it is bad for women to speak in a church? After all, that is what Paul says.

It's a cultural difference, that's why women weren't allowed to speak in church, same as why men weren't supposed to have long hair. That cultural difference doesn't exist anymore.

QUICK EDIT: And remember, Samson had long hair, it was the source of his strength. Granted, it was a unique case, but even so.

hmm, this looks a bit on the debatish side, so I will not say too much, I will simply pipe up and say that I dont think it is a sin for women to have short hair, unless they are deliberatly trying to look like a man, in which case there are deeper problems than the hair itself. Same goes for a guy wiht long hair in my opinion.

I dont think this is a huge issue, and it would be a pity if we all got worked up about it, so, I will say no more.

Long hair is awesome in my book. I prefer long hair but there are plenty of girls that rock short hair (I know a few). Personal preference though is long hair. If my wife doesn't mind I would love for her to have long hair, however I am well aware of the work needed to maintain it, so I probobly wouldn't make a big fuss if she wanted short hair.
