love Hina

Post about anime's sister, manga in here. Manga reviews accepted in here as well.

I haven't read Chobits or Negima, but I have read Love Hina and what's been translated so far of Ai Yori Aoshi.

Of the LH cast, my favorite's definitely Motoko Aoyama, followed by Mutsumi.
To all, life thou givest, to both great and small.
In all life, thou livest, the true life of all.
We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree
And wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.

Motoko is cool and all however she is a very stereotypical character. And even though she changes dramarically near the end, it was to late to save her from bieng a fav of mine. I do like her in the anime alot though.

One person that I surpisingly liked was Kanako. She just... I don't know....revolting character wise, stereotypical but intresting at the same time.

Negima is a intresting series and after a few vols, it defiently set it apart from bieng a LH clone. Here's a s good site with Negima Info with some bios I wrote:

I guess I'm going to have to go with Naru as my favorite character...She's just cool!

(Shao, I was going to say something about "If you have a problem looking at Barbies with out clothes on then stay AWAY from this manga!"
lol

Glad someone's else feels okay with LH!

This isn't really a deep moral objection, but I did think it worth noting. When responding to a large thread, it helps to quote specifically what you are responding to, or at least use a name. For example:

The Last Bard wrote:And as far as some of you saying you wouldn’t recommend it to anyone? Who are you to say what someone ..You can’t judge a book by the pages you’ve flipped through in a should and shouldn’t read. And you just said that you flipped through it at the bookstorefew seconds.
You should have said that you wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a problem with nudity or lusting of the heart and mind.

I don't believe I said it in this thread, but I have said it in the past. However, because your comment stands by itself, I have no way of knowing if you are referring to me.

In response to what you said (but not taking it personally), I would point out that a person has every right to recommend or not recommend whatever they want. A recommendation is just a personal opinion, after all. They don't have a right to condemn someone else just for reading it or try to prevent them from reading what they want (unless they are in a guiding role, such as a parent).

The Last Bard wrote:If they want hentai they can go read hentai, not go read Love Hina.

I don't think you understand (or, at least, that is what I am led to believe from this statement) quite how perversion works. Not everyone who uses anime for twisted reasons wants to watch straight hentai.

UC, I was not talking about you.

When I said stuff about hentai I was mostly talking about what Shao Feng-Li said in his post.

so why is the, line drawn at hentai? I mean you all say watching something isn't a sin. Why is the line drawn there?

Ren Sama:

EVIL MANGA! ALMOST AS EVIL AS ...Kare Kano....*shudder*
(I actually don't know if Ren is serious or not...)

I found this to be telling people to stay away from it.

Cephas:

STAY AWAY FROM THE MANGA! It's inundated with fanservice and almost "soft-core pornography."

UC:

I guess I don't understand perversion fully. But I do know that the lust of the flesh is a hard thing to satisfy. And more than likely you will eventully want more if you're using anime for "Twisted reasons"
(But this is just my take on it)

When we caution others about this title, I believe that it is out of love and concern. Love Hina (like many other titles out there) has fanservice, which has the potential of encouraging lust. I speak on personal experience that if you allow small seeds into your life, it can rapidly grow into a tree before you even know it. For that reason, I have to avoid some titles like the plague even if it just has small traces of something tempting. But such is the case for myself.

Now, this is not meant to be condemnation for those who enjoy Love Hina without any spiritual side-effects. If you enjoy that type of humor and you are blessed with immunity against fanservice, by all means, have fun while being thoughtful of other ppl's spiritual needs. But if you know that fanservice affects you in some way AND still continue indulging in it, be ready to account for the consequences that befall yourself and those whom end up stumbling after you. Ultimately, it's your choice and you're responsible of it. *nods*

Really, we are just watching out for each other.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. It just seemed like some of the previous posters were calling it just so bad.
And it didn't seem like they were giving any really good reasons why everyone should stay away from it. (Why should someone who can ignore the fanservice stay away)
But enough of this talk, on to better things.

Thanks,
Aaron

I've been watching this thread for a while now since I finished reading Love Hina on the Internet in July. I do have some stuff to add but seeing that the whole debate is solved I'll keep it to myself :).

I enjoyed Love Hina because of the story, art and characters. My favorite characters would have to be:

1. Motoko
2. Shinobu
3. Mutsumi

Motoko was just cool (I know...I have a bias towards samurai type characters  ). I kinda liked her no-nonsense personality in the begining but towards the end I liked her even more when she underwent that dramatic change in her personality. Probably my favorite character in Love Hina.

I liked Shinobu's innocent and gentle personality a lot. She seemed like the kind of person pretty much anyone could get along with. Seriously, if I had a little sister, I would want her to be like Shinobu. Sadly, I'm an only child...but I have my cousins to look to as little brother and sister figures :). Shinobu is really close to Motoko in terms of favorite characters.

Mutsumi reminded me a lot of myself . Many times, like her, I can be really absent minded and forgetful and sometimes be in my own little world. I could probably draw many parallels (sp?) between Mutsumi and my personality because she was the character I related to the most.

I wonder who would win in a match between Motoko and Kenshin. Hmmm...*ponders on the thought*.

One person I wish they included in the manga was Kentaro. Although he was annoying, he had some great one-liners in the anime.

I haven't read any of the Love Hina manga, but I have watched the anime. Despite the fanservice, I do enjoy the series. I think the story is cute and there are some really funny moments. My favorite characters are Motoko, Naru, and Tama-chan.

Mod note: Although you may believe yourself able to handle it, there are those here for whom fanservice is a serious stumbling block, so I recommend not further exploring the subject here if for no other reason than not causing difficulty for those struggling with it.

If it's showing entire naked bodies frequently throughout the manga, then it is porn, in my opinion. Some people may not think so. I do. Just like I don't think some things are gorey while others might.

As a woman, that really offends me, Eric. Fanservice makes us look like sex objects. Same with pornography.

A.I. Love You is basically the same thing with Love Hina. Shows bare skin but no detailed nudity. Though I do find A.I. Love You is quite more sexual then Love Hina is.

As for the definition of "nudy", it's up to you. As you read in some posts, some people have said anything fleshy is pornographic or nude while, such as I, believe that detailed nudity is considered nude but the undetailed nudity isn't.

I believe most people here know my stances on fan service/nude in anime/manga is so I won't explain by beliefs.
