I really like Job 3:2. It's the true shortest verse in the Bible (none of this 'Jesus wept' stuff). Otherwise, I have found Ephesians 4:29 (?)a good verse to live by:
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs that it may benefit all who listen."

As for books, my favorite one is definately Ecclesiastes! I absolutely love that book!

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!â€

My favourite is Ecclesiastes. It really unpacks the consequences of a life lived without God in a very honest and soul-searching kinda way.

My other favourites are Judges and Genesis.

Favourite verse would be Romans 12:21. :)

Wisdom
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge

"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

My favorite passage is 2 Corinthians 4. Especially verses 16-18.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know the the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be complete, not lacking anything. (NIV)

My favorite books of the Bible are Ecclesiastes and James, shortly followed by Romans and Philippians.

Although I don't have a favorite verse per se, Philippians 4:4-8 is one of my favorite passages. Also, the verse from Ephesians that Anna Mae cited is one that I find myself reflecting upon frequently.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

(i dont think this exact, just from memory) "but whosoever waits upon the Lord shall be granted strength. they shall mount up on wings like eagles. they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint." in Isaiah. i come to that verse often.
Only a dead thing goes with the stream. Only a living thing can go against it.
