*Otakon 2005*

Talk about anything in here.

Postby ashfire » Sun Aug 21, 2005 4:47 pm

Well I got there Friday around just before 9 AM and went to the line to get in. They some how put pre reg and at the door reg in the same line which went around the newest part of the convention center almost back to the front of the building. The only thing that made things bad for those standing in line was that it started raining and must have rained for a few hours. I came prepared for it with a rain coat and leggings for the bottom of my pants and shoes.
Once I got the schedule I ended up on the move trying to see what I could see, see people and those I needed to see from past years, buy what I could and try to find what I needed, eat and get back to the hotel for some sleep. I had been up since 5:30 AM Friday and by 10 PM I was dragging. When I got in the room I found my buddy had left he a stopped up bathtub with bath water in it and I needed a shower. Well I had to call the front desk to have someone to work on it. I finally got in bed around midnight and my buddy came in after 1 AM.
Back up at 7 AM, eat breakfast in the hotel and back to the convention center run the schedule, take pictures, dealer room, art room, eat, Megatokyo panel, cosplay, take pictures, back to the hotel and watch Cartoon Network fall asleep in the middle of what I was watching.
Back up at 7:30AM, eat a honey bun and milk, clear out of the hotel room and pack it in the pickup truck, to the convention center.
At the closing ceremony had the winners of all the contests mentioned. Showing of the Anime Music Video winners.
I have learned the dates of the 2006 Otakon. Aug 4, 5, and 6 2006.
There will still be a cap on the people attending so get your Otakon approved hotel lined up early and when on line pre reg opens, JUMP quick.

Otakon was awesome! We were really sad not to see you, Angel. MSP tries to pm you but his internet was down. I will be posting some pics before long.

Mr Smarty Pants and the others I met. I am sorry about the way I ran in and ran back out of our meeting there but I got my times mixed up a few times during the show plus with the noise I didn't get to catch everyone's name. You can tell from what I posted I only stopped to do a few things and by the time the con was getting to the end my mind was somewhere else and my thoughts were a little off centered. I used the wrong letters for the CAA when I left the message and realized it afterward . I used letters for info from work instead.
I hope no one felt I dissed them for what I did when we met.
With the number of people in the convention it was hard to find people from my old anime club except for the guy who stayed with me. I have wished that I could find another anime club or someone that wants to get one started.

Whee! The con was soo much fun. Sorry we couldn't meet up with you, Angel. We wanted to. Met up with SpoonyBard, meboeck, MSP, Kae, and EvilSporkofDoom, though. (Already knew Spork from real life...so I suppose that doesn't count.)

Met up with Vic!! ^____^ He said he was really sorry about missing out on the chat. He had to work late. He was bummed to miss it. He's the coolest dude. Ever. I got him to record as Dark on my voice mail. Makes me so happy. You can ask MSP, I listen to it all the time.

Somebody post the pics from the con! I need to steal them from you!

Some Vic-related pictures from Otakon. I had the pleasure to tell him how I admired his faith and how he was a good witness to America's youth. What a guy! I had him autograph this poster when I was there. Of course, I couldn't find a Full Metal Panic poster with Kurz on it. Curses! I'm actually not that big of a fan of FMA.

Image

No... may God bless him for what he is doing.

Image

I forget if it was these girls, but some girl ahead of me in line at the autograph panel leapt over the table and glomped... uh, tackled him. He was the perfect gentlemen when it happened. At the voice actor panel, someone asked the entire group of VAs what was the weirdest thing that a fan had ever done to them... my friend and I proceeded to just laugh and point (not in a bad way) at Vic because of the funny incident earlier.

At the autograph session.

My buddy with Vic and company.

At the Full Metal Fantasy panel. For some reason, nobody took the seat next to me... and Vic saw it, so he decided to sit next to me and my buddy. I suppose I should have been more excited (hey, it's Kurz's VA). But I'm not the type to get too excited over anyone...

Image

And this is my hat... and an ad for a burger. Thank goodness for the Hard Rock Cafe in the Inner Harbor. I was sick of fast food...

Did you get to touch her?
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I got to sit next to Vic, but I would have preferred to have sat next to his mom. I would have liked to talk to her.

lol there aren't... "waiters" really... you pay upfront and order and get your food... so its semi-fastfood semi-sit in resturant

another funny story. I was in line to Play DDR... well they had the soft pads (dual platform soft pads with a hard foam inside thing) and the metal pads... Well I was in line to play in the soft pad. And When it was my turn, me and my partner choe tsugaru on heavy. Now I noticed, that the pads were slipping all over the ground, because the ground was hardfloor. When the song started. I slid the pad back and "WHIP" Went the wire... Disconnected from the pad... People were like "O.O" and I was like "O.O;;"

So yeah... I broke a DDR pad...

but I didn't give up! I still shadowed the movements when it was my turn...

Yeah, and they're not allowed to break the law in there, either. ;)

Man, Otakon was a blast! I'm so glad the whole meeting thing all came together (well, most of it anyway) so smoothly. I had just been so freaked out that it would bomb like last year. I'll post up some pics of my own tomorrow (if I can figure out how...)

I have 21 pictures and a dial-up connection at my disposal. I haven't the patience to wait for images to upload and then copy and paste them 21 times over. So I just picked one. I heard this girl off to my left playing the Chrono Cross theme on the flute. I walked over and asked "Was that you playing Time's Scars just now?" So I started playing the guitar part and she jumped in on the flute. I had someone take a picture of us.
