Do you read in the book store?

I don't read ANY manga in the bookstore because I only want to buy them, and I know if I read them there that I will not buy them so....

Well, I hate the obstacle course of legs and belongings you need to walk over to examine the manga, so I try to avoid being a part of it. I may skim through it to try to see if it's worth buying but I'd rather read at home.

The most I will do is look at the back cover and the table of contents when I'm in a bookstore. I just don't feel right about reading the books while I'm in the store unless I am sure that I will buy them.

I very rarely read manga in the bookstore - I'll only do it when:

1) I won't block the aisle
2) There's a book that I'm completely unfamiliar with and I'd like to know the content.

Usually everytime I goto Barnes and Noble and roam around randomly. I sometimes read stuff from the sports section and various other things too.

I don't know, cooking is kind of cool, especially deserts

But I can't say I actually sit down for hours to read a book. Usually just a few pages or skimming through it to see if it interest me.

Haha. That's exactly how I go about my manga shopping!

It kind of bugs me when I find people situated in the manga section, taking up space for those who use the store for what it's for, plus having to ask them to move their heads so I can reach for a book). I just get in, pick up what I'm looking for, then leave.

If I am just browsing for certain books besides manga, I will spend only a few moments skimming the section, but not to the point where I create an obstacle for people.

I usually don't read in the bookstore unless it something that I can't afford to keep up with (like Rurouni Kenshin). I'm mostly with what The Last Bard said, don't search or you'll become discontent. ^.^

I read in the bookstore when I can. But the last time I was there I didn't feel like raeding manga at all. I read from a book about dogs, and I read a large portion of a book about a lady who was a nanny in Hollywood. Maybe something else, but mostly the nanny book.

I browse a lot in the technical books section. Those are pricey enough that I want to know I'm getting my money's worth from a reference text. I'm not spending $49.95+tax on a book with two or three pages I find interesting.

I would like to be able to read in a bookstore but here in Australia they don't have seating in the bookshops and also the staff disapprove of people almost so much as browsing the art, writings in books before buying or considering a purchase. You guys have it lucky!

You know what I hate? Our Suncoast in the mall where I live has this sign posted up by there manga section saying "No reading of the Manga!" I can understand that some people probably came in and sat down and read for a few hours. But I went in there once and picked up a How to Draw book and as soon as I started skimming thru it (ten pages at a time) one of the workers came over and said "The sign says no reading of the manga" o.O
It's like for crying out loud! Does he think I'm going to pay $20 for a book that I judged from the cover? Lol, I don't like that store too much.

I like to be able to at least flip to a page to see if I like the artwork.

I always go to Barnes and Nobles though.

I'm pretty notorious in bookstores. Yes, I admit that I read manga in those cozy couches provided by B&N and every now and then, I'll dominate the manga aisle shamelessly. I'm pretty sure I must be in the hit list of some CAA members, under the "isolent mortals who have the audacity to stand between me and the manga shelf: MUST DIE" category. >XD

The bookstore mostly gets my money from the mocha I buy every time I visit.

Isnt it illegal to do that[restrict viewing before buying] unless the book is taped or wrapped? Stupid stores can get away with anything,....

I read the entire 5th Harry Potter in a bookstore in Germany
When I had nothing to do I went in and contiuned, remembering the page number from last time. (They had seats to test-read the books, they weren't very comfortable though, obviously)

Now that I think about it, reading entire volumes in Barnes and Noble would save a ton of money.

The key is finding a good hiding place.

At the Borders in our area, they have lots of comfortable seats and seem to encourage a laid-back, "stay and read awhile" attitude. So much so that it's hard for them to get people to leave the store.

But oh well, lots of people with lots of money come and crowd their parking lots, drink their coffee, and buy their books, magazines, DVDs, and CDs, in between the blatant browsing/reading/visiting.

Evidently the Suncoast thing is a company policy, since the one in the Wichita mall have the same signs up. I flip through magazines, comics and some manga to see if thier worth buying, but reading whole books? Don't have that much time.

XD heck yeah! If I don't really want to buy a series, but I want to read it a little I read it in the store. And then I usually end up buying it... >.>;; Yeah, I have self-control... riiiiight here. *cough*

I usually only read whole books if my family is off doing something else though... like sometimes I get dropped off at B&N while my mom and my sister go off to some weird store I would hate to be in and I get to stay in B&N for a few hours reading manga ^__^

I'm a horrible person. I never buy manga. I just go to Borders, grab a stack of stuff I want to read, and have a comfortable seat. Also, I bum stuff I want to read off of my friends. So yeah, I completely take advantage of the ability to read books in the bookstore.

I rarely go to bookstores, but yes, I read while I am there. Generally manga, because I can finish it while standing without difficulty. Most of the time I read things I'm only partially interested in, not series I actually follow.

I used to not; I used to be able to spend about 20-30 a month and get all the new manga I wanted to read. However, I've since entered seminary and gave up a steady source of income to go crazy in college full time...so now I'm a frequent visitor to Barnes and Nobles or Borders with a large stack. I do like the fact that Suncoast gives 20% off new titles, and I try not to read titles I'm currently collecting (DNAngel, Furuba, Scrapped Princess, Full Moon) otherwise I'll have no incentive to buy them >.>

I do however, shamelessly mooch as much as possible.

Sometimes I'll stumble upon a manga I think I might want to buy, and, for that reason, I'll sometimes read all or some portion of that manga to see if it's money worthy.
