Actually I have mentioned it in similar threads like this one but those get lost in the shuffle sometimes. Its actually good to FINALLY find someone who actually knows what it means. Most people assume that it means I like to sleep a lot. Actually the phrase "The Big Sleep" refers to death - but I didn't chose it for dark, pessimistic reasons but because it actually sounds funny. Some people around here sometimes referred to me (quite by accident) though as Bigsheepj.

Espoir wrote:You must have seen Casablanca then, right? I mean it's a clasic.

What Humphrey Bogart fan did not see Casablanca? Great movie - one of my favourites. There was a time when I watched it once every week - I now reserve it for once every year. It still is my favourite Bogey movie.

Espoir wrote:My name is french, and it means hope.

Cool. I knew it was French but I had no clue what it meant. Thanks for clearing that up. :thumb:

My username used to be convoybutterfly. It was the name Excel put on a temp job application once in Excel Saga. After a while, I just got tired of typing it in everytime I would log in because it was so long. So I changed it to Rachel. Which still isn't my name. My name is Rachelynn but Rachel is what most people call me since my whole name is kind of hard to say. I've thought about changing it to Rachelynn (my username) but I think we're only allowed to change it once.

I picked Sheenar because it was a nickname from high school. I was in Spanish with a bunch of my friends and they changed my name to an AR verb and would conjugate it: Sheeno, Sheenas, Sheena, Sheenamos, Sheenan.

I still have a few friends who call me Sheenar. I still think it's hilarious.

Eh, it's really just too abstract to explain. . .
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

It's Japanese for "knight of thunder and lightning". I've always considered myself a knight of sorts, and as for thunder and lightning, well . . . Knight of Pink Cotton Candy just wasn't as cool.

Unlike bigsheepj, I really don't have any deep significance behind my user name, but it's important to me, none-the-less. I would say as many people know be by this name as what know by my given name.

my name faithfighter was like the 30th name I came up with. the rest were stupid and meaningless I wanted soemthign that said who I was.
its kind of simple though.
faith: being a Christian, (no though its popular beilef faith isn't my name.)
fighter: because (much like my brother HolySoldier5000,) I wanted to fight for my faith...bby speaking out of Christ...and fighting temption.
so anyway there is the meaning behind my name.

I for a while wanted to change it to NamlessOne (after a book I read, and because I was going through about the same thing as the chara, but I kept it...cause I decided I really liked it to much)

I actually came up with my name last year, when I decided to make an anonymous e-mail so that I could share my faith to my classmates. Never been to any forums before so this was my firts one. lol. But I thought about it even more and it had a deep significance to me so it stuck I guess.

I got it from the parable of the lost sheep (Matthew 18:10-14) where one man left all 99 sheep to find that lost one. I used almb because a lamb is meek and so I wanted to be that lost lamb over whom angels rejoiced in heaven.

This year actually I just realized that I really am found now. Like wahat I said in an essay, I found my purpose by letting myself get found. I was a Chrsitian since seven but twas only last year that God revealed my purpose in living.

Well hoped you like teh short story. ^_^. All you guys have cool names too. O yeah has anyone been using Crusader for Christ? I might use that as my other nickname.
Crusader's Oath:

I, (state your name), promise to lay down my life for Jesus. To fight all my daily battles for Him. To dedicate my whole life and time to Him. To never cease in doing His commands. And to gladly fulfill my purpose and fearlessly go into battle with teh assurance of victory!!!

"Diakonos" is Greek (as it was origanlly written the New Testment) it means "servant" or "the one who serves" but in Greek there is more than one way to to say "servant"... Diakonos means a servant in the line of ministry.

Which I am :thumb: !

I'm not sure if this makes sense, but "Sao" means "Girl" in Laos and "Sakura" means "Cherry Blossom". I guess you can translate it as Cherry Blossom Maiden. Hey, that was pretty creative if I do say so myself (hehehe)! I just love Sakuras. They're so beautiful!!!

Just finished reading ALL of these 12 pages of posts. And enjoyed everyone's explanations, from real names, to movie buffs, (actually knows who Bogart is & seen Casablanca), language related names, spur of the moment or real life influenced. I'd have to admit, (as many of you probably already guessed), I'm in the made up character online id group.

Most would be right that it a clue I'm a Sailor Moon fan and made up my own scout. Whether the name is cliche or creative, I'm not sure, but I like it.

"Sailor" as in traveler in the sea of time and "Dove" as a messenger of God.

Postby Azier the Swordsman » Thu Aug 11, 2005 8:46 am

Azier was originally a character for an RPG story I've had in my head to a long time. (As I'm eventually gonna be in game design.) I like to use it because it's very unique. I'm the only one on the net who has it.... it's kind of like my personal signature.

In addition; Azier is truly my alter ego. I'm very careful how I act under this persona; sometimes, hanging out on a non-Christian board might tempt me to want to try to blend in more and act more the way they act... even though I know it may not be right... my screenname in a way keeps me in check as it reminds me that I would not want to be seen by anyone familiar with me or my SN acting in a way that could be hypocritical to my love and beliefs in God. I'm very careful not to tarnish my alter ego in any way. And, in a way, it's beneficial to my Christian walk.

Postby Golden_Griff » Thu Aug 11, 2005 2:26 pm

Hmm....actually I chose Golden_Griff in an attempt to create a screenname that would be less popular. But at the same time I didn't want to make a crazy screenname that's made of nothing but digits.

Of all the online alias that I have created, I like Golden_Griff the most. "Golden" is just an adjective I threw in so the name wouldn't sound so plain. "Griff" is a shortened version of "Griffin," which is a mythological creature.

If I knew that we could have screennames with spaces I would have just made it "Golden Griff" without the underscore. But then again I wouldn't be able to make this cool "smiley"--> G_G. :P

I've had several people mistaken me for a guy, but that's ok because it tells me that my name isn't stereotypically female either. (No offense to those who like stereotypical female screennames  ) So in a sense, I'm not immediately judged for who or what I am.

In addition I think Golden_Griff fits my anime-ish alter ego's personality. The name has helped shape the image of my online being as well.

Although I am rather disappointed in finding more and more users who use a derivative of "Griffin/Gryphon" as their screenname, I still like Golden_Griff because it sounds so cool to me  (I say disappointed because it makes me feel less special lol).
