Song Meanings

Postby phinny5608 » Mon Aug 01, 2005 12:32 am

This may have been done before, so I hope you guys don't mind.

I guess this can be for posting questions you may have on the meanings of songs and answering others' questions (even if it's just your opinion). For simplicity's sake, please don't ask too much at a time.

Some stuff I'd like to know about:

"The Seduction" by He Is Legend. Is this song about a Christian falling in love with a non-Christian, or what? Input, please.

Could someone tell me of Christian themes in the album New Medicines by Dead Poetic? They're probably there, and I think I recognize them. For example, the song "Hostages" might have some reference to witnessing and "Dimmer Light" might refer to being in a state where you just don't feel like God is smiling on you. (One of my favorite albums, by the way)

He Is Legend isn't a blatantly Christian band by any means so I don't think that's the theme of it. I think it's just a play on the Romeo and Juliet idea and they made it into a great song.

Well, in the song, they mention the line "I thought of Jezebel," which is a Biblical reference to an evil, troublesome woman. This, and the line "I'm dancing with a Capulet" make me think they're refering to a non-Christian woman from a Christian man's point of view.

Capulet is Juliet's familly Name
Tis No Fool to lose what he can not keep to gain what he can never lose.
What does it profit a man to gain the World yet lose his soul.
Choose Life that you Might live.

Thats the fun of music. Many artists do songs knowing that everyone will draw somthing different from it. Some do it for innocent reasons, other bands do it to milk the Christian industry as much as the secular. And some artists do songs that mean absolutly nothing....which leaves people scratching there heads for years to come.
