Has anyone seen Appleseed yet? I was wondering if it was good as a movie and like you know language and stuff.

no language whatsoever. though one of the underlying themes that builds up the society in the show is cloning/genetic engineering.

There was a lot of violence. That was all I noticed that could be objectionable. Hm....

People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared

There are two films by this name, both of them based on the manga. The earlier one was made in the 1980's, and has gotten mixed reviews although I personally haven't seen it. The second one was made much later. Neither filem is connected with the other, and although there are some elements in common the later movie can't really be called a remake either.

I think the second movie, which I have seen is quite good both in terms of the animation quality and the plot. As far as the other matters go, I don't really think there is any objectionable content although a lot of stuff does get blown up.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Hey... I started an Appleseed thread a while back and it sunk out of existence... Well, at least this one's getting responses.
Yeah, Appleseed's awesome. The opening scene alone is just straight butt-kicking mayhem hotness, and the movie only gets better from there. The only thing I was upset about was when I went to Media Play like 2 days after I bought it and I saw the special edition that comes with a little action figure of the robot guy. But that one cost about $70 anyway, so no big loss.

edit: Content-wise, there's no nudity, no foul language that I recall, and although there is intense action violence, there's little to no blood/gore.

Lets see the animation kicks butt I love the environmental effect they use; so amazingly realistic. The action is awesome and the storyline is rather good. Not to mention its a very clean anime content wise. Overall I would say most people would enjoy watching it.

This film is gorgeous, and the plot is rather intriguing as well. There may have been some minor language, but there's no fanservice. The story centers somewhat around the reproductive capabilities of what are essentially clones, but is done in a tasteful way (talking about important things such as experiencing emotion and other things like love; sexual relations are discussed in this light, thus positively :-) Check it out it's great! The R rating that the MPAA board gave it makes no sense to me; there's one part in the very beginnning that is a little graphic violence-wise but nothing to freak out about. Hope this helps! :-)

I've only seen the original, and that was a long time ago. But I have both the original and the new one on order and I'm really looking forward to seeing them. The reviews you all ahve given make me even more excited. Thanks.

In truth, Masamune Shirow will know doubt become another Asimov. Shirow might even surpass Asimov because of being a visual artist.

Appleseed is awesome, GITS is awesome; classics to my way of thinking.

I own the newer one...And as said it's very good and a fun watch...There is one halfway fanservicy scene that I remember though. You see the main character Duenan (sp?) in her underwear (which for anime are really modest) in a scene where she is in a hospital being revived.

I was thinking of picking it up, but I only heard poor to fair reviews of it. Can't remember which one was which but it was said that one was horrible and the other was only okay.

So if I may, is this a case of just a bunch of naff reviews, are are you all just super-fans of the genre and happy to overlook a bunch of problems?

I didn't think it was that great at all. The characters were very one dimensional and bland. The voiceovers were terrible for half of the cast. While the animation in the fightscenes, backgrounds, etc was good the actual characters themselves seemed to not have much detail to them. And the story was blah pretty typical stuff. The first time I watched it I could barely stay awake by the last half hour, but I did watch it again for fairness and my opinion didn't change.

Sadly, I agree. It was dissapointing. Sure it's good, but it's nowhere near great.
