On july 21 was my brithday and it was depressing, with none of my friends were there and none of my family wish me a happy day. I guess when you are young brithdays are happy you have friends and family there. so I relly wish i could be young again.
Just sad thought about my brithday.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Umm...happy belated birthday, if it helps.

My birthday came and went a few weeks ago and I was angsting about it throughout the entire month of June. Maybe it's me, but I often feel like I'm a weirdo because I don't plan massive parties or do something crazy. All in all, the only people who knew about my birthday were my parents, my brother and my one close friend. I guess I could have planned something slightly bigger, but I probably would've ended up pulling my own hair out due to stress.

I ended up actually working on the day of my birthday, which was weird since it was supposed to be a statutory holiday. And it was one of the most stressful days I've ever had on the job, and none of my coworkers knew about my birthday, all in all, it wasn't the best birthday ever. But my friend did stop by my workplace to yell happy birthday at me, and my family and I saw fireworks that evening and ate cake. So I guess it wasn't too bad in the end.

Alot of the time though, it seems like people don't remember birthdays unless their prompted by a birthday invite or something....

Welcome to adulthood. My mother called me on my last birthday. That was it. Not my brother, father, or grandparents. Not even a card in the mail.

I don't really mind, though. It's not like they don't care for me, it's just my 32nd birthday isn't that big of a deal. Once you get older, if you want a party, you have to plan it for yourself.

I didn't have a party for my 15th birthday either... being my first year of high school (and public school for that matter) I guess I felt like I didn't have enough friends.... I'm definitely doing something for my sweet 16 though! I know now it doesn't really matter how many friends you have. I know mine would have loved to come to a party.

Biggest party I've ever been to was a couple of months ago- One of my friends had over 35 people! O.O I don't think I'd ever want one that big - it was crazy! She sure got a ton of money though

Man, I feel for you there. B'days are still pretty fun for me, although they don't have the sheer magic of the old days. You're not alone with that feeling, although I would venture to say that your birthdays are what you make them. If that helps...

Birthdays... Once I was 17yrs my birthdays all seemed like another day. When we are younger, it seems that everyone stops for us and wishes us a happy birthday; kind of like the world revolve around us. Now, although I think birthdays are alright, they just seem like another day to me. We still have to work and still live regular life. The world doesn't stop for us like it used to.
That's life.

Plus, I've never been into parties or wanted people to take off their whole day just to hang out. People have their own lifes too.

I guess all I really want is a few "happy birthdays," by a few close people. Nothing more. It kind of reassures us that people still remember and care for us. ANd that's all that really matters. But yeah kaibrightwing, I can totally understand and relate.

I am sorry that your birthday was not that great.

I don't understand why people dismiss birthdays so easily nowaday. I was fortunate that my parents would always try to do something special for my birthday. I couldn't always have a big party and go out and do something, but it was always acknowledged.

We had a friend that hadn't had a birthday cake since he was 8, he was turning 23. So, I baked him a cake, and he almost started crying.

It doesn't take much to let people know that they are cared about. I guess that's why it upsets me so to hear that people are not acknowledged on their birthdays. My Fiance's family left him 2 years in a row to go on trips without him, on his birthday! :mutter:

I am really sorry your birthday was a bummer. Like others have said, treat yourself and maybe a friend or two to a dinner out and a movie, or a trip...

Hear's hoping your next one is wonderful!

Yeah, my thirteenth birthday and onward were kinda... weird. I just didn't like getting older. I was too old for toys, but I wanted something like that, something fun. Instead I usually asked for and got things I liked, but not the kind of "bounce up and down with glee" things I enjoyed when I was younger.

I think mostly I didn't like getting older. And birthdays were only a symptom of the uncomfortable growing pains.

Anyway, I think you should tell people your birthday still matters to you. My mother always acts like she doesn't care about her birthday, and I only found out this year that she actually felt rejected and sad on it. Like, dude! Why do you act like it doesn't matter, then???

Anyway, you should let people know it matters to you. Or something.

People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared

I can sympathize. My 21st birthday -- that's supposed to be a big one, right? None of my friends took me out or anything. My mom made me a cake, so that was cool, but... I don't know what I expected. It's not like I wanted to go out and get smashed anyway. But it would've been nice if somebody offered...

When you're as close to 40 as I am, the last thing you want to do is remember you're another year older. I usually end up having my birthday on a weekday so I have to work, which is nice because it's easier to ignore that way.
I kind of miss the days when I was a kid and birthdays were an excuse to get lots of friends to come over for a slumber party and eat junkfood all night long.

my brithday didn't seem to be that bad, If I talk about whats on my mind it makes me feel better. At lease I like to put random thoughts up on the board and see what others think about it, so if you think I'm depressured i not is just a random thought that got out just as i was reading messages on the board. sorry " bowing deeply as i repeatly saying sorry."

Hmmm...interesting thread, actually. It's sad to hear so many people sad about birthdays. I was starting to think how unexcited to be turning the age I'm turning my next birthday (in about one month), but I feel lucky that I still get special things for my birthday. I mean, it's not like when I was a kid and I had a sleepover and party at Chuck E' Cheese or the waterslide or even an amusement park or baseball game, and a huge party with lotsa' yummy cake, but I still have nice family celebrations. And really, that everyone is healthy and can get together, that's better than Chuck E.'s or a waterslide. My family and grandmas, sometimes extended family, get together, I get to pick my meal and dessert, and still get presents. We usually do something, at least going out, for my mom and dad and brother's birthdays too. I guess birthdays have always been a pretty big thing with my family, but then, most holidays are. ^___^

But oftentimes the celebration comes on a weekend, and if my B-Day is on a weekday I get a phone call, party later. So I usually just celebrate myself. Buy a DVD or game, and order out from my favorite restaraunt. Nothing huge, just a little treat to myself. Something to try, at least?
