er... What I'm sayin' is that true geeks, are not nerds, or dorks. I'm frankly ashamed to be compared to a nerd. *shakes head*
I also think that, if you were to meet a real geek (the 011000100110100101101110011000010111001001111001 type), you will NOT find them very trendy. The ones I know don't have too many people trying to be like them.

Personally, I buy label clothes if I like the look, and not if I don't.

I'll listen to music that I like. Sometimes it's generally popular, sometimes not. I don't really care.

I could fit in in at a computer/electronics trade show, a Rennaissance Faire, or an anime convention. These are all considered by many to be somewhat geeky things.

At the same time, I usually end up considered cool, even though I know the OSI model and the difference between 14th and 16th century armour. And even though I talk online with enough furreners that I've begun to catch myself using commonwealth-isms and British spelling automatically, and have to catch myself before I say/write them.

I guess I'm just naturally cool all over the world. (yay me!?)

Eh, I have this built-in tendency to go against trends, like some others, but I've pretty much just done what I personally enjoyed. Sometimes it's what's in, oftentimes it's not. I've always been a substance over style, functionality over appearance kind of guy. Won't say I've never gone with a trend because it's a trend, but it's extremely rare.

By the way, will someone please educate me on the difference between a nerd, a geek, and a dork?

*shrugs* Hey, if it means it'll be more acceptible to like things a little outside of the mainstream, I'm for it. Truthfully, while I enjoy trends, I never jump on a tred bandwagon for the sake of being...part of the trend. If I like it, I like it, and I won't change my opinion because it's suddenly 'uncool'.

I'm sort of a geek/nerd--not just because I'm a gamer and an anime fan, but because I'm an animation fan in general. I probably know more about voice actors than live action actors like Tom Cruise. I feel like the 'geek is cool' trend is kinda fun and funny, and if it means people no longer have to be ashamed about their intrests and hobbies, then I'm all for it.

Something tells me its all about money. The clothing companies and such want you to go against the trend and buy really expensive stuff just to go against the trend so they get lots and lots of money. Or maybe it's to get people to buy "geek pride stuff" Either way it's all about money. My view is if you change because of trends you're following the trends even if you're going against them. You're inversely following the trends. I make no effort to be cool or uncool. I'm just myself.

What about the other kind of poser volt? The kind that poses to not fit in to be cool?

I don't know how well they fit, but these are my impressions:

A nerd is a person who spends "too much" time in educational pursuits and "not enough" time outside playing sports or engaging in other such activities.

Dork comes from an old word for an item we can't mention on this site. Without going deeper into that, I'll put it as implying that someone is not contributing anything useful to the current situation.

A geek is a carnival performer who bites the heads off of live chickens. I would say that a geek could also be a person who spends all of his available time following one pursuit that is considered rather unpopular or possible unhealthy by most other people’s standards. Kind of like a nerd with out the implied intelligence.

The debate of the proper definitions of nerd, geek, and dork is one of my favorites. Which is probably rather geeky in itself.

I'd say I'm a geek, just because of my very involved pursuit in unusual hobbies and my random sense of humor. Mostly I'm just invisible though. Geeks don't immediately identify me as a geek, and cool people just...don't see me at all, or regard me with a sort of odd/uncomfortable fascination when I do venture to say something.

Geeks are quite welcoming when they do identify you, though, and it provides a fun, unique way to reach people that most people don't pay attention to.

I would say that the term "geek" in general refers to computer geeks. But there are also sci-fi geeks, gamer geeks, anime geeks, etc. Basically I see the word "geek" as meaning, "having an extreme interest in something outside the mainstream."

I follow a trend if I like it, and I don't, if I don't. Since I've been busy, I usually pick up on trends once it has died away. I'm so behind times but I don't care. XD

I don't follow trends to the T. Like others have said if I really like something I'll do/wear/use it. I like striped/patterned button up shirts, it's the "thing" for males to wear for alot of occasions. I sure as heck don't go buying $70 button up shirts like some dudes, when I can find something pretty similar for say $20 on sale somewhere. Anyway that's a trendy thing for guys, I like it, have for years, and that's not gonna change for me no matter what's in GQ magazine 5 years from now. That's a good example.
